Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/India

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to India. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|India|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to India. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

Causing deaths and being reported in the news do not confer notability, and high-casualty bus crashes are common. Fails WP:EVENT. Per WP:NOPAGE, this is better covered at List of traffic collisions (2000–present), or at Vadakkencherry, Palakkad if it's significant to the town's history. • Keep (and CC Thebiguglyalien) - this had a lasting impact on safety regulations in the region (not just the town!), as detailed in these 2023 and 2024 news articles [1] [2] on the related court cases as they made their way through the Kerala High Court and the Supreme Court of India. (I can only assume there will be more on that in non-English language sources). Additionally, last November the crash was the subject of a case study in a book published by Springer and based off of a conference paper [3]. This is enough for NEVENT, even if the article needs a lot of updating. (I mean, it doesn't even include the Nov 2022 report [4]!) GreenLipstickLesbian💌🦋 04:09, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the Onmanorama source fluffs the name of the town where the bus crash occurred, but I think that's a typo/autocorrect/messed up transliteration moment given that there wasn't a car accident in Wadakkancherry at the time, and given that the names in Hindi seem to be one character off (वडक्कनचेरी vs वडक्कानचेरी). (Note: this was a syndicated piece originally published in Hindi, and it looks like the original text is referring to Vadakkencherry [5])) That being said, all the sources I've found do end up referring to this accident as the Vadakkencherry bus accident, so the page should probably get moved to something more similar to that. GreenLipstickLesbian💌🦋 04:16, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The news articles are still contemporary coverage of events in real-time, not a secondary analysis. The conference paper looks very promising though. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 04:50, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Given that it's a 2022 event, all sources (including the conference) paper are contemporary though? Which I take your point on, but no article on a post 2015 event will have sources about it that could reasonably be described as coming from a different time period. The news sources in this particular case, while primary for the court cases, are secondary to the bus crash given that they are a) as well removed from it as they could be and b) analyzing its impacts on other events. (Or, in Wikispeak, the WP:CONTINUEDCOVERAGE demonstrates the bus crash's WP:LASTING effects) GreenLipstickLesbian💌🦋 05:04, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: As per WP:NEVENT. Events are also very likely to be notable if they have widespread (national or international) impact and were very widely covered in diverse sources, especially if also re-analyzed afterwards. Vadakkencherry is a place in Palakkad district. In Kerala people usually tends to refer the place with the name of the district which it belongs to. All the sources which is showing up as Vadakkancherry accident is actually the same. As mentioned by GreenLipstickLesbian, the 2023 and 2024 sources deeply cover about the impact of this accident which happened in 2022. Hence it clearly meets the NEVENT criteria which I mentioned. • Comment: Looking at the condition of the article, I don’t think it should be kept. Aside from the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award, which gives him some notability. Most claims are unsourced tagged. I'll wait for other wikiusers input....strong sources that could change my mind, but for now, not seeing enough to justify a standalone article. Chronos.Zx (talk) 08:50, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Being a recipient of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award is enough for notability claim. Ramanchakyar was the founder of the oral drama in Chakyar Kooth and Koodiyattam. He has contributed to revive both these art forms and is known as the renaissance hero in Koodiyattam art. This makes him eligible as per the second point stated in WP:ANYBIO. The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in a specific field. I would also like to add that the condition of the article should not be considered while nominating it for deletion. If the article can be fixed through normal editing, then it is not a candidate for AfD. If an article has issues try first raising concerns on the article's talk page, with the main contributors, or an associated WikiProject, and/or adding a cleanup tag, this ensures readers are aware of the problem and may act to remedy it. Fails WP:NCORP. Previously merged to Welspun Group after 2022 deletion discussion. Attempted to redirect as an WP:ATD after doing a thorough before and not finding WP:CORPDEPTH coverage meeting WP:ORGCRIT. That attempt was objected to so now we are here. CNMall41 (talk) 17:34, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Can you list the WP:THREE you feel meet ORGCRIT? I see routine coverage of funding, unreliable sources, or churnalism. Will be happy to take a look if you can point a few out you feel do not fall under that category. Was going to do a full source assessment but it's borderline REFBOMBed.--CNMall41 (talk) 17:28, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Discussed below. - The9Man Talk 08:36, 3 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The first source was written by Lancelot Joseph who claims to be the executive editor of the site but cannot be found anywhere online (with the exception of a placeholder LinkedIn profile with cartoon profile image). The person wrote eight artilces on May 24, 2025?? Not likely. I will call this one WP:NEWSORGINDIA and likely paid media. The second is Fortune India, not Fortune so different editorial oversight. Even if we can assume good faith, it is mainly information supplied by the founder so not sure how independent we can say it is. Finally, the third reference fails WP:ORGCRIT for being churnalism. See this, this, this and this. I can provide a dozen or so more based on the same press release. These are the types of sources that make up this page. --CNMall41 (talk) 22:46, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding Lancelot Joseph, his profile features a caricature, not a cartoon, and the profile appears real. I wasn't able to find any articles from May 24 on the website profile as you mentioned. I don't see any specific issues with this unless we "assume" it is paid. The Fortune article seems to be a legitimate article, taking quotes from the founder. I also found these articles to support the notability: [8], [9] [10]. The largest funding by any institution in India for warehousing is also worth noting: [11] - The9Man Talk 15:35, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The additional references you provided are routine, not ORGCRIT. I am not sure how you advocate for accepting the "caricature" writer after seeing they posted all these on the same day, they all read promotional like press releases, and is an obvious placeholder profile for publishing WP:NEWSORGINDIA. Never seen an actual journalist who couldn't found elsewhere on the internet. --CNMall41 (talk) 15:50, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t agree detailed coverage of the company should be discounted as routine, and I stand by the decision to keep. That said, I'll leave it to others for now. - The9Man Talk 08:36, 3 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've looks at the sources added to the article, although there is little I can see online. A promotional booklet is not independent coverage. For significant coverage of films we are looking for reviews or awards. A review should be more than a plot summary. The article mentions that the film was eligible for an award - not that it won the award or was even nominated. Accepting that the promotional booklet is the most significant coverage I continue to favor a redirect. Gab4gab (talk) 03:36, 3 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Created by a now-blocked COI paid-for editor, further buffed by socks and COI editors, this essentially promotional page is skirting G11 but in any case refers to a businessperson who signally fails WP:GNG - coverage is advertorial, incidental or ROTM company announcements. Also see Telangana Gaddar Film Awards of 2024 up for deletion. Notability tag was objected to here so I did a thorough WP:BEFORE and found only announcements, press releases, and the typical churnalism that falls under WP:NEWSORGINDIA. The only thing it could possibly be notable for would be this controversy but do not think that rises to the level of notability. CNMall41 (talk) 18:58, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong Keep It is linked to notable article of Telangana Gaddar Film Awards the 1st ediiton, stop your non sense. • Keep: I am not starting by listing sources because there's already ample coverage here. And yet, valid Indian sources are being dismissed wholesale under WP:NEWSORGINDIA. That guideline was never meant to blanket-discard Indian sources at AfD but rather to serve as a cautionary flag for closer scrutiny against paid-for news. In practice it has become a slippery slope where Indian entertainment journalism is reflexively deemed unreliable and articles are sent for deletion.
  • Take The Hindu here as a case in point, one of India's most reputed newspapers. The nominator has flagged one of their articles as unusable in their rationale, likely because it lacks an author byline. But that's only one of the indicators to be cautious about when assessing whether a source is paid in NEWSORGINDIA, it is not a conclusion in itself. In Indian journalism, lacking bylines is often standard practice for entertainment pieces. Other than film reviews, most entertainment coverage in The Hindu appears under the generic "Hindu Bureau" byline. There is no indication that all such articles are unusable as many deal with real-world events and provide critical coverage that is clearly not paid for. Is this article on The Devil Wears Prada 2 resuming filming from Hindu Bureau also an example of NEWSORGINDIA? That would be an absurd conclusion to draw based on the criteria at hand.

DeluxeVegan (talk) 05:43, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: The article meet Wikipedia’s notability guidelines per WP:GNG and WP:NAWARD. The article cites multiple reliable, independent sources, including Times Now, Deccan Herald, and Deccan Chronicle, which provide significant coverage of the awards’ establishment, winners, and controversies. These sources demonstrate sustained media attention, including a reported controversy about the jury’s selection process, which further underscores public interest. Charliehdb (talk) 12:22, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    WP:NAWARD is a failed proposal so holds no weight. S0091 (talk) 16:20, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: does not meet WP:GNG and fails WP:SUSTAINED. Similar for WP:NEVENT's WP:LASTING. This is new award held in 2025 for films released in 2014-2024 which aimed to replace the defunct Nandi Awards. All the sources, except South First, are dated May 30th with South First dated a couple weeks later in June. The ones dated May 30th are standard announcements/press releases about who won so are primary sources thus do not help with notability. South First is excellent, outlining the history, controversies and that many awardees did not attend (most of which is not reflected in the article). However, one source does not establish notability and still leaves the issue with SUSTAINED/LASTING. S0091 (talk) 16:19, 2 July 2025 (UTC) S0091 (talk) 16:19, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: There're additional sources in The Indian Express and The Hindu (Frontline) that are bylined and talk about the awards in a political/critical space. These plus discussion per above is sufficient for keep. WeWake (talk) 07:18, 3 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Even if we suggest a merge with the company article as a WP:ATD option, it still doesn't make much sense to move promo text from one page to another. Mostly unsourced, with nearly all of the existing citations being WP:RAJ-era censuses, thus violating WP:NOTDATABASE. Most of the actual prose is duplicated by Gurdaspur district; if necessary, merging as a WP:ATD is an option. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 17:41, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - The article is not mostly unsourced also WP:RAJ refers to the caste system whereas the Gurdaspur District (British Punjab) article does not mention caste at all, there is no reference to behaviour, no stereotypes of people it is in the main about the structure and governance of the old district

The article is about a second level division of British India which at some 4.5 million km² was Britain's largest colonial possession. An article about this is not therefore a random collection of information, Gurdaspur was split in 1947 and its boundaries changed, prior to 1947 it was considered worthy of an encyclopaedic entry and the modern district is different to the previous one.

By way of comparison North-West Frontier Province had its name changed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2010 and consequently there are two articles, there's also Military history of the North-West Frontier as well as History of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It's not random information to have more than one article, it's an encyclopaedic method for helping to clarify information and present it accordingly to the reader, you segment the information for a particular epoch which is useful especially when boundaries have changed.

As for most of the prose is in Gurdaspur district, this does not appear to be the case, other editors have updated with more information but I'd say in this case Gurdaspur district#British Raj should have a link that says main article Gurdaspur District (British Punjab). because this article has much more information about the erstwhile colonial district.

Also while it is understandable that colonial era records should not be used to propagate racial or caste theories this does not apply here - also as a comparison I used the Umdat-ut-Tawarikh as a source for the Mir Painda Khan article, the text is quite critical of him but I omitted that and just used the source text to to help with the chronology of what happened. When it came to the Gurdaspur source texts - there was nothing of that nature to omit anyway.

The subject is a non-notable actress and model who has made only minor appearances in films and music videos. The "Filmography" section is misleading, as she did not have a lead role in Kesari Veer. The article relies mainly on primary sources, mentions, interviews, and WP:NEWSORGINDIA and lacks WP:SIGCOV coverage.

Concerns include potential manipulation of her date of birth, with primary source citations (e.g., Instagram) contradicting verifiable information, such as her being 20 in 2016 during India's Next Top Model season 2. The article may be affected by COI/UPE and violates WP:TOOSOON.

I have made some edits but seek other editors’ expert opinions on its encyclopedic value and sourcing. Zuck28 (talk) 06:26, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

What about significant coverage in secondary and reliable sources?
    Zuck28 (talk) 16:14, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What about it? I've added a few secondary sources to the page. Also 1) I've added a source indicating she plays one of the four main characters in Kesari Veer (and see Leading actor) and the filmography can hardly be described as "misleading". 2) A page cannot "violate" WP:TOOSOON, which is an essay, not a policy but, most of all, citing that essay may have been useful back in 2017 but certainly not today, as she has now an already notable acting career 3) Stating that she has "made only minor appearances in films" is totally inaccurate, for that matter. I have no idea about potential conflicts of interest regarding the page but in its current state, it does not strike me as an issue. Eva UX (talk) 16:58, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    There’s no Wp:SIGCOV in Wp:RS. Only passing mentions, wp:NEWSORGINDIA, and interviews.Zuck28 (talk) 08:52, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Even if that assessment was correct, she still would pass Wikipedia:NACTRESS. And please note that WP:BASIC indicates that "If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability" (the different reviews in reliable sources of the 3 films she had lead roles in mention her performances with critical assessment and those mentions, some being brief, cannot be considered trivial nor passing mentions). Eva UX (talk) 16:26, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per WP:NACTRESS. What secondary sources are you looking for, reviews suffice. The 2 interviews should be considered for sourcing since they are not the bulk of the sourcing. You can always tag the page for needing citations instead of deletion. DareshMohan (talk) 05:58, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Interviews are primary sources and therefore unreliable for supporting claims in articles. While interviews can be used to establish that an interviewee made a particular statement, they are not considered reliable for verifying the accuracy of those statements. For example, this actress lied about her age in one of her Instagram posts, and later that post was used as a reference to manipulate the date of birth on Wikipedia. See wp:IV
There are reviews of the movies as citations but none of them can really provide in-depth reporting. See Wp:SIGCOV.
while someone passing Wp:NACTOR may be considered notable, but this is not always necessary.Zuck28 (talk) 07:00, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Meets notability criteria per WP:NACTOR and WP:GNG. She has acted in films across major Indian language industries (Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada), with roles that received individual mention in professional reviews. The Times of India described her as "bold and glamorous," while The New Indian Express and Cinema Express included her debut in their critiques. In addition to her film roles, she has appeared in high-profile music videos performed by prominent artists like Badshah, Tiger Shroff, and Harrdy Sandhu — each of which has received notable media attention. Her modeling background, including participation in India’s Next Top Model, further supports a career with sustained media visibility. I think reliable sources, both mainstream and entertainment-specific, provide significant coverage of her career, satisfying the general notability guideline. 2. Meets WP:ANYBIO: Recognized honors The subject was awarded notable distinctions:

  • "Arvestaget" title from the Republic of Armenia for cultural contributions (with photo and embassy references).
  • Guest speaker at the Armenian Genocide commemoration in New Delhi (2024), a high-profile diplomatic event.
  • Reminiscier Fellowship 2025 by Global Cultural Council.

These are significant, non-self-bestowed recognitions that meet the threshold for WP:ANYBIO.

3. Creative and scholarly output (WP:CREATIVE, WP:AUTHOR): Dr. Leander has authored:

  • The God of Deserted Memories – launched at a 7-day literary exhibition with diplomatic support.
  • The Monk With A Stethoscope – a widely distributed philosophical memoir.
  • Books on Armenian heritage supported by cultural centers and embassies.
  • A biography of impressionist artist Lems Nersisyan.

This meets WP:CREATIVE and WP:AUTHOR based on quality, distribution, and recognition.

4. Additional contributions and presence:

  • Founder of Cognishift.org and the Indo-Armenian-French Art & Literary Confluence (attended by 500+ people and supported by Lalit Kala Akademi, Ministry of Culture).
  • Citations and publications on ResearchGate and Google Scholar.
  • Referenced by both Indian and Armenian official and diplomatic entities.

5. Draft history and intent: Yes, the article had earlier drafts. However, the current article reflects significant effort to meet notability, with references from high-quality sources and no promotional tone. Previous draft iterations should not be held against a now-verified and well-sourced article.

Conclusion: This subject clearly meets Wikipedia notability criteria for authors, cultural figures, and honorees. The article can be improved, but deletion is unwarranted.

Recommendation: Keep and improve.

Extended content

Additional point — Mainstream Indian media coverage strengthens WP:GNG

The subject has been covered by Indulge Express, the arts and culture vertical of The New Indian Express, a major national newspaper in India. This feature article highlights his Indo-French-Armenian literary work and his cultural event at Lalit Kala Akademi:

Indulge Express article – May 10, 2025

This is a **significant source** from **mainstream Indian media** and is both **independent** and **non-trivial**, thereby satisfying the core requirements of WP:GNG. It reinforces the fact that the subject’s work has attracted attention in recognized national publications with editorial oversight.

This is in addition to other sources like The Times of India, ThePrint, and Business Standard, confirming that the article meets general notability criteria through multiple independent, reputable media sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thehugolion (talkcontribs) 14:22, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Additional point — Recognized by Armenian Ministry of Culture and conferred the "Arvestaget" title

In 2024, the subject was formally recognized by Armenian cultural institutions and awarded the honorary title of "Arvestaget" by the Republic of Armenia for his contributions to the preservation and promotion of Armenian culture, literature, and memory.

This recognition was:

  • Conferred with the support of the Armenian Ministry of Culture
  • Publicly documented with photographs and permanent links (see references in article)
  • Issued in conjunction with his cross-cultural literary work and diplomatic events organized in Armenia and India

This satisfies WP:ANYBIO which includes individuals who have received significant national or international honors from recognized cultural or governmental bodies. It also strengthens his profile as a notable figure in Indo-Armenian literary diplomacy and heritage work.

Such recognition from a national ministry of culture is notable, rare, and equivalent in value to inclusion in state-level halls of fame or cultural orders often cited in other AfD keep arguments. Thehugolion — Preceding undated comment added 14:36, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Additional Notability Basis — National Honors and Cross-Cultural Recognition from Armenia’s Ministry of Culture

The subject was conferred the honorary title of “Arvestaget” by the **Republic of Armenia** in 2024 for his cultural, literary, and philosophical contributions to Armenian heritage and Indo-Armenian relations. The title was formally conferred with the **backing of the Armenian Ministry of Culture and the Avetik Isahakyan Central Cultural Center**, a national-level institution. This distinction is documented through official references and photographs cited in the article.

Such **official cultural recognition from a national government** directly satisfies WP:ANYBIO under WP:NBOOK criteria under: _"The person has received a well-known and significant honor at a national or international level."_ WP:AUTHOR criteria 2 and 4 , book being part of exhibition in India's premier Government National Academy of Art - Lalit Kala Akademi with International attendence- Armenia and France. This parallels arguments used successfully in other biographies (e.g., state-wide halls of fame, high-profile fellowships), and carries special weight given the cross-cultural nature of the award involving three nations (India–Armenia–France).

The recognition was linked to the subject's books and artistic collaborations that have been independently covered in national and international press (Republic of Armenia government centre Avetik Isahakyan Centre,Indian Embassy website, Times of India, ThePrint, Business Standard, Indulge Express).

Combined with national press coverage and scholarly output, this title substantiates a strong claim for notability. Keep --Thehugolion (talk) 15:19, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: The article was a mess so I tried to clean it up so future reviewers have a more neutral base opinion. That said I found absolutely zero independent sources that we can use for this BLP bio. The above LLM nonsense doesn't give me a good feeling either. I will note that apparently he also goes by "Madan<space>Mohan" sometimes, to provide more searching surface area.
Add: Also the best sources used in this article don't mention the doctor so thats not useful. And I couldn't find good reviews of his books. Moritoriko (talk) 06:43, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: The article is about an author , doctor and cultural curator whose work has been adopted and shown as an exhibition by an artist in the National academy of art in India. This has garnered attention of French, Indian and Armenian diplomats and covered by national newspaper- The Indian Exrpress -Indulge. As per author criteria, this sets the stage for notability. Besides the state title and honor, significant cultural dissemination and works toward uniting cultures, it is a deserving biography for Wikipedia. Indulge Express , is the cultural review section of The New Indian Express, ( Independent third party National News with by line) the article discusses the depth of his work in elaborate detail , it also shows how the book has been adopted as an exhibition. This satisfies the Author notability criteria. The news source is independent national news and cultural review source, satisfying review and news coverage both. --Artakbig (talk) 10:11, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The 2023 version of these awards was closed as a result of an AfD last year as a redirect (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zee Marathi Utsav Natyancha Awards 2023). CNMall41 and at least one other editor have redirected this as per that afd's result, but they keep getting reverted by ip editors, who never improve the article. CNMall41's rationale for the other year also applies here: "Fails WP:GNG. Main page Zee Marathi Utsav Natyancha Awards exists which is also likely not notable so not seeing how this would meet notability guidelines. Cannot find enough coverage to establish it for this specific year. " Onel5969 TT me 17:53, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

(I offer no opinion or further comment.) WCQuidditch 08:38, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment – I'm not fluent enough in foreign languages to fully assess the sources for notability, but I want to push back on the idea that it is not notable as references just talk about winners, not about the show itself. In my experience, this is not how awards ceremonies are assessed. Consider something like 74th Writers Guild of America Awards – the only references are about the nominees and winners, yet I doubt anyone would seriously challenge that article's notability. If reliable, independent sources discuss the ceremony's nominees and winners as a group, then it is reasonable to create a list for the nominees and winners at the ceremony; see Wikipedia:Stand-alone lists#Notability. Now, I don't know enough about Indian media to gauge if the provided sources are reliable and independent of the network presenting the awards, hence my lack of a !vote – but if they are reliable and independent, I think the ceremony is notable. RunningTiger123 (talk) 20:39, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have a related deletion discussion showing that individual year awards are notable based on winner lists? I do not see where the WGA awards you linked to was every evaluated. Simply existing does not mean it is notable.--CNMall41 (talk) 23:49, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My entire point is the lack of any attempts to delete the list – nobody has challenged its notability even though the sources only cover that year's winners/nominees. This is only one example from many similar awards ceremony lists (for instance, the WGA, DGA, and PGA Awards), showing a WP:IMPLICITCONSENSUS that this is acceptable for proving notability. RunningTiger123 (talk) 04:56, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So you are saying that since no one has challenged its notability until now then it must be notable? I don't follow. Please see this as well. Again, can you point to a deletion discussion where this has been the case? I am trying to see where there is consensus for your original contention.--CNMall41 (talk) 05:00, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My point is there aren't deletion discussions for articles like the WGA ceremonies because the cited coverage of winners and nominees precludes any need for AFD in the first place.
Perhaps this is a better way of thinking about it, using the 74th WGA Awards as an example: Sources such as this, this, and this cover a single group of awards. This group of awards is known collectively as the 74th WGA Awards. There is not much coverage of the ceremony, but that's not what the article is focused on. It is primarily focused on the group of awards, not the ceremony or presentation, and coverage of the former meets notability guidelines.
Bringing it back to this article, if sources cover the group of award nominees and winners, that would show the topic's notability. There could be other issues – perhaps the sources are not independent of the network broadcasting the event or are otherwise unreliable. I'm not in a good spot to judge that; I just want to emphasize that if the article is deleted or redirected, it should not be because "sources only cover the nominees and winners". RunningTiger123 (talk) 03:10, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your contention, but we will have to agree to disagree at this point. Again, just because something has NOT been nominated for deletion does not mean it IS notable. --CNMall41 (talk) 04:34, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unable to find any independent coverage, as almost all of the sources are either interviews or passing mentions in unreliable or unbylined sources. Not enough to meet WP:GNG. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 12:58, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

As an aside, it's completely absurd to think this person might not be notable. They founded the most successful chess journalism / media company ever, and are one of the most well-known media figures in chess. The nominator lacks the WP:COMPETENCE to be familiar with the subject and did not put adequate effort to look for sources. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 14:08, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sources from chessbase.in are WP:SPS, and thesportzplanet.com, perlenvombodensee.de, and fountainink.in are more like blogs with little or no editorial oversight. To clarify, ChessBase has existed since 1986 and the Indian version was only co-founded by him. Claiming that “they founded the most successful chess journalism/media company ever, and are one of the most well-known media figures in chess” reflects your bias and is not policy based. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 15:02, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Complete nonsense. Media-wise, the Indian version of ChessBase is way more important than the German version. How do you not know that? Sportsfan77777 (talk) 17:55, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No, Perlen vom Bodensee is not just a blog, [48], it is a very reliable source, also trusted by de-wp, for what it's worth. - Squasher (talk) 13:18, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please double check? Because from what I see, the only author who consistently writes on Perlen vom Bodensee is Conrad Schormann, who is also the founder. Six articles were written by Stefan Löffler and a few by Roland Neumeier. The translated DE wiki article states that "The site's editor is Conrad Schormann, who is supported by a team of 18 authors.", which I believe is misleading based on what I’ve seen so far and the fact that the article has very few edits also doesn’t help its reliability. In any case, having a page on DE wiki doesn’t automatically make the source reliable, especially since the standards on EN wiki are significantly higher, which I believe you already know. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 15:34, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There is nothing to add or to check. I saw the article this afternoon by chance and also the the AfD, with a comment I did not completely agree and just wanted to leave a note that might help. The source is viewed as reliable in de-wp by the chess portal, if you do not agree, that is fine for me. Sagar Shah is at least in my eyes a relevant topic for someone like me, who follows chess purely from an interested viewer point of view. He is very well known in the chess eco system, in de-wp he is notable already just by having reached the IM title. If he doesn't meet the criteria here, because no sources can be found, that are seen as sufficient, so be it. - Squasher (talk) 20:19, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

ChessBase India is not an WP:SPS. He is not the one writing the articles that are about him. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 17:26, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'll also note that ChessBase India is probably the most reliable WP:RS among chess publications. If you don't want to count it for the subject of this article because he's the one who created it, there's some lacking WP:COMMONSENSE going on here. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 17:26, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Another note, the nominator does not understand what ChessBase or ChessBase India are. These sites exist to sell chess products (e.g. software, under the name ChessBase), hence why they have similar names. They also both have a media/journalism component, but the two media/journalism components are completely separate from each other. ChessBase's media/journalism component is not considered particularly important or successful, while ChessBase India's media/journalism component has been so successful that a lot of people believe the media/journalism component has overtaken the chess products component in terms of the company's image. I can provide sources to back this up, but this is just common knowledge if you are familiar with chess. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 17:40, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - Although you are correct that Chessbase India is not a WP:SPS, as he is its founder, I don't see how it can be considered independent of the subject. Also the interview with him is primary - see WP:IV. Interviews are not fine - they are primary sources. But despite that, the Perlom vom Bodensee article looks good - SIGCOV in an independent reliable and secondary source. We need multiple, of course. There are mentions in a few other places, but I haven't yet found more. All the same, I think based on coverage that does not rise to significance or where independence is questionable, I still think we could support a presumption that more exists. That being said, there is a caution: the text of the Perlom vom Bodensee article has Werbung (advertising) just before the body text. If the whole article is paid advertising, then it is not independent. In that case I would say this is a clear case for deletion. Only if we can verify the independence of that article would I say it's enough to support a weak keep. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 18:16, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
WP:IV says some kinds of interviews are fine. I agree with you that the video interviews are primary, but the written interviews vary. This one and this one are both definitely acceptable in that regard. For Perlom vom Bodensee, it's not a paid article, if that's what you mean. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 18:41, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If ChessBase India's media/journalism work is successful, then it deserves its own standalone article. By WP:SPS, what I was trying to point out is that he owns the Indian site, so anything it publishes about him can effectively be considered as self-published, even if it carries an author byline. I realize now that I phrased that poorly before but my main point is that these sources are not independent.
Likewise, the Chess.com Creator of the Month feature would be considered routine coverage if it were about any other YouTuber/streamer. From what I understand of the standards here, the bar for notability among YouTubers and content creators is quite high and a single interview or profile like this wouldn’t be enough to establish it.
Perlom vom Bodensee cannot be verified to have any kind of editorial oversight, as it is the founder publishing the majority of the articles and this is once again an interview. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 06:40, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For most of the Creator of the Month articles, the issue would be it's not independent, as almost all of the featured creators are affiliated with Chess.com. But that's not the case with the subject of this article. He is one of the only creators featured who isn't affiliated with them. So it's not WP:ROUTINE. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 08:16, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Likewise, it's ridiculous to frame the subject as just a content creator when he is primarily known for creating an entire media platform. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 08:16, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Lean keep - Haven't investigated in depth but I've certainly heard the name before, he's a strong player (just below GM level) and I'm familiar with his writing on chessbase. The combination of strong player and established chess journalist should be enough to get him over the line. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 09:48, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep Initially even I thought that this article should be redirected, but when I looked at similar such articles of NFL and NHL, I realised that when the league will grow in years, broadcasters will change and there will be too much information to keep on the main IPL article. I looked at WP:OSE as per you said, and my vote may not have followed the counterargument clause there, but my sole objective was to give information on the context (relevant here) wrt to other leagues doing the same and nothing else so I mentioned them here as a base example. I will not repeat it again, thanks for noting it to me. Editking100 (talk)

Your argument when the league will grow in years, broadcasters will change and there will be too much information to keep on the main IPL article is WP:CRYSTAL-based speculation. When and if the league grows and there becomes too much information to keep on the main IPL article, adding a spin-off article can be considered. But certainly not now. Frank Anchor 14:46, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You can verify yourself, there is currently 4x or 5x more information on broadcasting here in this article as compared to the main IPL wikipage (broadcasting section). So this was my reason above when I said, I am in support for Keep here, considering we already have more information to fill a spinoff article currently citing 48 sources, which isn't included in the main page. Non-notable clash. Fails WP:NOTNEWS and WP:EVENT. WhoIsCentreLeft (talk) 20:42, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strongly Oppose:
The Article is part of a wider Naxalite-Maoist insurgency in india which have been ongoing for decades, its a low-level insurgency for past many years so mass casuality events are rare.
Only two articles represent a mass casuality event in the insurgency in the whole year of 2024 one is above mentioned and the other being 2024 Abujhmarh clash, so it not just a regular news and the event have been reported by Foreign media outlets, which is rare.
From a wider perspective, articles that represent mass casualities of the maoist rebels have been targeted for deletion recently. Eg:-
It is part of a larger operation ongoing since 2024 to end the insurgency by March 2026.
While articles which portray Government casualities have been left out from deletion even though they are underdeveloped and represent less casuality events like
Deleting this article and leaving out the others will shift the neutrality of the Insurgency, with possible downplaying rebel casualities and highlighting government casualities observed for wikipedia viewers. Golem469 (talk) 08:47, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This article was previously moved to draft space due to concerns about notability and insufficient coverage in reliable, independent sources. I reviewed the draft and declined it for lacking significant coverage to meet the general notability guideline (GNG). However, the creator has since moved it back to mainspace without addressing the sourcing concerns. While the subject has received an award, I believe it is not sufficient on its own to establish notability without substantial independent coverage. I'm bringing this to AfD so that other editors can review the article and share their opinions on whether it meets Wikipedia's notability standards. Afstromen (talk) 16:37, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Business person does business things. None of the refs provide WP:SIGCOV, subject fails WP:GNG. - UtherSRG (talk) 11:36, 14 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your interest in this article, Anish Shah qualifies under WP:GNG, as he's the CEO of Mahindra group which is in India's top 25 companies. And he has significant coverage in reliable, independent sources as far as I researched after founding this article via Special:Random/Draft.
So I will improve this article asap to follow the Wikipedia:GNG completly. and kindly explain this- Business person does business things so I can know what wrong I did in this so I can improve that also. iVickyChoudhary (talk) 15:31, 14 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And the previous CEO of the same company has very old wiki article. Anand Mahindra Just sharing. I know it doesn't matter much. iVickyChoudhary (talk) 15:32, 14 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@IVickyChoudhary: Being connected to a notable entity does not grant notability per WP:INHERIT. - UtherSRG (talk) 18:06, 14 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I fully agree that notability is not inherited by association per Wikipedia:INHERIT. However, the argument for keeping this article is not based solely on Anish Shah’s role at Mahindra Group, but on his own notability, which is independently established through. Multiple reliable and independent sources that provide significant coverage of his leadership, strategic decisions, and business vision as Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Group. Kindly search on Google about him. iVickyChoudhary (talk) 06:31, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
References say he's a businessperson doing business things. That's not SIGCOV. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:11, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your review. While I understand the concern that "businessperson doing business things" doesn't automatically imply notability, I respectfully argue that Anish Shah meets the WP:SIGCOV, and WP:GNG.
He has received significant coverage in independent, reliable sources such as Forbes India, Economic Times, and Business Today, which profile his leadership, strategic direction, and impact at Mahindra Group. This coverage goes beyond routine job announcements, it reflects independent journalistic interest in Shah as an individual business leader, not merely in the company he leads. His coverage is not trivial, routine, or tied to a single event. I will continue to improve the article by adding more sources that fulfill WP:SIGCOV and will restructure the article to reflect their depth and focus. iVickyChoudhary (talk) 07:58, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete it appears many of the significant sources are resume-like or procedural "Shah picked as ..." or fall into the tabloid category "What is Mahindra Group's CEO Anish Shah's monthly salary?" but we don't necessarily get a substantive view of what makes him notable beyond running this company. The most significant pieces are on the business, not him as a person. Not opposed to draftify-ing this so that it could continue to be improved and to eliminate the WP:REFBOMB Nayyn (talk) 23:21, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Nayyn Thank you for the feedback. While I understand the concern regarding routine coverage, I’d respectfully argue that Anish Shah meets the threshold for WP:GNG through sustained, independent, and in-depth coverage.
Articles in Reuters, Economic Times, and Fortune India go beyond procedural appointments. They explore Shah’s leadership in restructuring Mahindra Group ( exit from loss-making units, multi-billion-dollar EV spin-off), his market-shaping role in India's SUV and EV sectors, and his national-level role as President of FICCI. These establish significant coverage focused on him, not just Mahindra as an entity.
And I'm happy to reduce the reference volume to address concerns of WP:REFBOMB iVickyChoudhary (talk) 06:10, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: The current sourcing on the article is a bit of a mess and the article reads very promotionally but I think I found 3 sources that are in depth enough to count for GNG.
  1. Forbes India Staff 2025
  2. LiveMint 2023
  3. Economic Times 2017
I think that these should be enough, but I am open to being shown that these sources are not independent enough to confer notability. Moritoriko (talk) 02:05, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Moritoriko I’m currently cleaning up the article, trimming promotional tone, reducing reference clutter, and improving structure. I’d really value your input as I refine it further. Fails to establish notability independent of his association with Ratan Tata, per WP:GNG, WP:AUTHOR, WP:BIO, and WP:INHERITED.

His startups do not meet WP:NCORP due to modest scale and event-specific reporting, and the book lacks significant critical reviews or awards to satisfy WP:AUTHOR. Zuck28 (talk) 17:16, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
