Abubakar Liyatu (Abū Bakr bin Dāwūd[1]) was the mai of the Kanem–Bornu Empire in 1368–1369.[1]

Life

Abubakar was a son of Dawud (r. 1353–1363)[2] and succeeded his cousin, Othman II,[2] as mai in 1368,[1] after Othman II's death in the war against the Bilala people.[3] Abubakar was also killed by the Bilala after mere months on the throne.[3] Abubakar was succeeded as mai by his nephew, Dunama III.[2]
