Abd al-Jalil II (ʿAbd al-Jalīl bin ʿAbdallāh[1]), also known as Selema[1][2] ("the Black"[3]), was the mai of the Kanem–Bornu Empire in 1194–1221.[1][4]
Life
[edit]Abd al-Jalil was the son of Abdullah I Bikur and Huwa.[2] He succeeded his father as mai in 1194.[1][4] The reign of Abd al-Jalil was a prosperous one and his reign saw the Kanem–Bornu Empire rise to dominate "the whole desert".[3]
Abd al-Jalil's consort was named Dibala.[2] They had at least one son together, Dunama II Dabbalemi,[2] who succeeded Abd al-Jalil as mai in 1221.[1][4]
