Question from JMTeich (02:38, 30 April 2025)

[edit]

I would like to create an updated version of this page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulsed_electromagnetic_field_therapy How do I proceed in doing so? Thanks --JMTeich (talk) 02:38, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

JMTeich creating and expanding articles is one of the most difficult tasks you can do as a new Wikipedia editor, so I wouldn't recommend starting here. Instead I suggest you to try some of the recommended edits at Special:Homepage.
When updating the page, make sure to only use reliable sources in your research and base your article only on information that can be cited to one of these sources. You may also want to take the crash course at Help:Introduction. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 22:26, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Salicia7 (10:50, 30 April 2025)

[edit]

Question from AFanOfTheWanderingInnNumber25 (14:46, 30 April 2025)

[edit]

How do I create a userbox for my account? --AFanOfTheWanderingInnNumber25 (talk) 14:46, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

AFanOfTheWanderingInnNumber25 you can use Template:Userbox and modify it to change the color, image, etc. Information on how templates work can be found at Help:Template. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 22:35, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from AFanOfTheWanderingInnNumber25 (00:24, 4 May 2025)

[edit]

Why are there so few Wikipedia articles on web serials? There are some web serials that seem to me good enough to be physical books. --AFanOfTheWanderingInnNumber25 (talk) 00:24, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what question you are trying to ask. If there are so few Wikipedia articles on web serials, this means that either there are very few notable ones or there is not enough editor interest in creating articles on them. I'm guessing the former. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 02:52, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Ambclark16 (18:56, 7 May 2025)

[edit]

How do I create my own article and add links to it? --Ambclark16 (talk) 18:56, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ambclark16 Creating a new article is a very challenging task, and I would recommend starting with easier edits to get the feel of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Some good ones to start with are suggested at your user homepage. Then, you can look at the page for creating your first article (WP:YFA).
Adding links to an article is relatively simple, see Help:Link. Just make sure you are adding them only when appropriate. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 01:10, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Wf-Daniel Bright (03:43, 12 May 2025)

[edit]

Hi, I’m new to Wikipedia and looking to get started with editing. Could you please guide me on how to make small, meaningful edits on existing articles? I’d like to contribute without overstepping any guidelines. Thanks! --Wf-Daniel Bright (talk) 03:43, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wf-Daniel Bright some small but useful edits can be found at your newcomer homepage. (You should probably start with ones marked "Easy"). If you want to add or change any major content, please cite a source. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 18:01, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Sophiellie (20:39, 12 May 2025)

[edit]

Hi there! I’d really like some advice on my contribution to the Mad Max: Fury Road page. I’m a student who was assigned a project where we are supposed to add academic papers to Wikipedia pages. I added a Disability section to the themes page, and it has for some reason been a source of discourse on the page, with random editors taking it down without any reasons. I cited sources and had it approved by a professor. I don’t really know how to navigate from here. Thanks! --Sophiellie (talk) 20:39, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sophiellie your professor 'approving' it doesn't carry any weight on Wikipedia, it just means they think it is likely to improve the article. You created a discussion on the talk page which is the right way to go. It seems the editor who responded on the page agrees with you. Especially as a new editor, I think you did well in handling the situation after getting reverted. For next steps, maybe you could notify the editor(s) who reverted you and see what they think. Question from FergusArgyll (23:50, 14 May 2025)

[edit]

The Operations section of this page (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Naval_Auxiliary_Landing_Field_San_Clemente_Island) is a word for word copy from the official Navy description (https://cnrsw.cnic.navy.mil/Installations/NAVBASE-Coronado/About/Installations/Naval-Auxiliary-Landing-Field-San-Clemente-Island/)

Is that ok? if not should I delete it? should I just rewrite it in different words? --FergusArgyll (talk) 23:50, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Until I get clarification, I've done this. Should I basically apply the process described here? Thanks FergusArgyll (talk) 00:15, 15 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Wrightway Media (17:46, 20 May 2025)

[edit]

Ive submitted a draft page for Jo Harrop and it has been declined and I don't understand why. Its written in much the same way as other pages and the subject is notable. please help --Wrightway Media (talk) 17:46, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wrightway Media I'm guessing you work for Harrop. If so, you are required to put a notice that you are being paid to edit the draft or you might be blocked.
In many cases, people aren't notable by Wikipedia's standards - I haven't checked myself, but you can always ask the declining reviewer what they thought.
As for the tone, sentences like The tunes are GAS book standards very suitable for cool, late night listening, or if it comes to that, any time of day listening. are clearly promotional. The statement should be qualified as coming from the article (and should be paraphrased, anyways), to not make it come off as promotional. The whole article really just seems like a list of her achievements.
I would advise you to not look at any Wikipedia article but rather ones rated as 'good' or 'featured' to get a better idea of what is good content - there are many low-quality articles that are promotional or not notable, and which volunteer editors have not gotten the chance to repair yet. If you see any articles that don't meet quality standards, feel free to add a maintenance tag, so other editors can know about the problem. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 01:48, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. No i do not work for her. Im just a Jazz fan and couldnt beleive that there was no page for her as she is really doing very well on the international jazz seen and has just supported Gregory Porter on a 14 night UK tour. The quote you referred to was made on a blog by an album reiewer in 2019 and is referenced at the bottom. Yes its promotional and an opinion but the same would be said about any music critic. I thankyou for your comments and will look at the edit. Wrightway Media (talk) 06:35, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @Wrightway Media, I know this is not the most welcoming message you'll read here, but are you related to | this group with a similar name ? Anyways, "My favorite person doesn't have a Wikipedia page? I'll make one for them!" is a very common and good motives for attempting to create a Wikipedia page. Filling in gaps are always welcomed as long as they are above the minimum standards - especially our notability policy. I'm too sleepy to take a look at those sources and assess notability of her myself, but I guess the subject does have some coverage to start with.
AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 14:13, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No not related. My surname is Wright and I thought it would be smart to coin the phrase The Wrightway for my user profile. Added the media bit so that I could post content on Youtube of gigs I attend blah blah blah. Looks like someone else has a similar idea. Perhaps would have been better off using something totally random as clearly everyone thinks I have an agenda!!! Thanks for the pointers!!! Never knew it would so difficult!!! 81.140.69.67 (talk) 14:32, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Ckiesewetter (20:45, 27 May 2025)

[edit]

What are the steps for pushing something from the sandbox to production? Are there any resources from moving this article. I understand the approval process.

Thanks! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ckiesewetter/sandbox to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danuta_Meiloch?

Thanks! --Ckiesewetter (talk) 20:45, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ckiesewetter once the draft is accepted, the reviewer will perform the technical actions necessary to move the page to article space, so you just need to worry about drafting an encyclopedic article. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 21:18, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Eliminar1993 (07:06, 28 May 2025)

[edit]

Hello. I am closely related to a subject of page, his page is being vandalised and abused. How can we fix and improve the page health and prevent vandalism? Please help. --Eliminar1993 (talk) 07:06, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Eliminar1993 this is about Vivek Oberoi, right? It seems you're just removing content on the page without any proper explanation for why. While I agree the controversy section is probably too detailed, the solution is not to simply remove it. Specifically, if you are closely related to the subject of the page, you are advised to not edit the page directly and instead submit Conflict of interest edit requests to avoid compromising the neutrality of the article. That is what I would pursue in your position. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 13:32, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Latoyaomhle (10:57, 1 June 2025)

[edit]

Hey mentor this is Latoya I would like to know how do you choose a topic you want to edit without being given a topic 😏 --Latoyaomhle (talk) 10:57, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Latoyaomhle Try to think of a topic that you are interested in and want to spread more information about to the internet. Then, look at any relevant articles that fall under that topic and try editing them.
If you are still having trouble, you could also try starting with articles that fall under "Suggested edits" at your user homepage. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 22:40, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there,

I accidentally edited a page without being logged in. Is there any way for what I edited can be removed as I don't want my IP address to be shown. Many thanks --Julius176 (talk) 08:21, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ConwayT4 (15:51, 10 June 2025)

[edit]

Hey, I'm to make a page for a new high school conference in Ohio, and I'm still pretty new at editing and wanted some pointers if possible? --ConwayT4 (talk) 15:51, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

ConwayT4 Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. The first step is to determine if the conference is notable - in short, it has had significant coverage by at least three reliable, indpendent sources. If it is new, I doubt there will be such coverage. If this requirement is not met, then unfortunately, you cannot create a Wikipedia article about the conference.
Once you are sure that it is notable, you can follow the next steps at Help:Your first article#Writing your draft (the rest is relatively easy). If you aren't sure about notability, you could show me what sources you find and ask me to evaluate them. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 01:08, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Sisterbluebird (11:09, 16 June 2025)

[edit]

Hi! There's an incorrect statement on a page about Citheronia regalis, the Regal Moth. How can I edit AND be respectful (ie, not sound like a jerk)?! Thank you! --Sisterbluebird (talk) 11:09, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sisterbluebird simply correct the statement on the page, leaving a reference to support your addition. No one will think you're a jerk if you're just trying to improve the encyclopedia. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 21:58, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi, I thought I had already asked this but can't find it - I'm a bit of a Wikinewb.

For this article Draft:Nutrient, Inc., it was initially rejected due to needing some different links. I updated the links per the guidance and resubmitted, but it was rejected again with no comments or further guidance in spite of the changes. Any thoughts or insights that you can offer, please? I very much appreciate it. Rachelhasthemic (talk) 17:39, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Rachelhasthemic it seems like they are still promotional, or at the very least non-indepndent. For example the DCP reference says ORPALIS’s expertise in .NET and Windows is combined with rare domain knowledge in OCR and PDF rendering engines. which is clearly promotional. I didn't look much at the other sources, but based on the titles, it seems they are in a similar situation. In general, if there is content promotional in nature, or direct quotations from founders or people associated with the company, then it is likely non-independent.
As a last note, see WP:TECHCRUNCH for guidance specific to TechCrunch as a source. Creating a new article is extremely difficult, which is why it is not recommended to new editors. Typically it is much smoother to start with smaller, easier edits like copy-editing or suggested edits at Special:Homepage. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 05:00, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
