Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

The above means that you are not permitted to make any edits to any page or article on Wikipedia related to the Arab-Israeli conflict until your account is at least 30 days old with 500 substantive edits or more(i.e. not edits made just to reach 500). You are far from either criterion. 331dot (talk) 16:35, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I added something to the talk section, not the article page, though. I thought that my addition was relevent. AFanOfTheWanderingInnNumber25 (talk) 16:46, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
However, I didn't see at the time that it was already covered in Wikipedia's List of Controversies. Sorry. AFanOfTheWanderingInnNumber25 (talk) 17:01, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify, the restrictions apply to every type of page on Wikipedia, and are interpreted broadly. 331dot (talk) 17:07, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, understood. AFanOfTheWanderingInnNumber25 (talk) 17:14, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
On a different subject, why aren't there any articles on some of the more popular online webserials? Some of them are almost certainly more popular than some physical book series. AFanOfTheWanderingInnNumber25 (talk) 17:16, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can't speak to that specifically, but articles only exist when someone chooses to write them, and the topic gets covered by independent reliable sources that show notability. 331dot (talk) 17:53, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Can you suggest a DYK style hook?
If you are shy about editing that page, you are welcome to add ideas and comments on the talk page.
