Thank you! In case anyone is curious, these are the articles I started for the event (I also did one upgrade that counted, for Martha M. Stanley). The event overlapped our Black Women editathon, and the Wiki Loves Ramadan editathon, and our months for C/D and E/F in the alphabet run, so all of that is somewhat reflected in this list:

Pauline E. Dinkins, Annice Calland, Loretta Carter Hanes, Rose Leary Love, Lorenza Jordan Cole, Myra Colson Callis, Jean Coston Maloney, Frances Berry Coston, Carrie Barnes Ross, Delia Silance, Camille Cohen Jones, Estelle Pinckney Clough, Margaree Seawright Crosby, Florence Beatty-Brown, Hilda Grayson Finney, Rhoza A. Walker, Gertrude Rivers Robinson, Madeline Stratton Morris, Constance Ridley Heslip, Ella Payne Moran, Hanna Papanek, Selma Ekrem, Eleanor Bisbee,Florence Ljunggren, Clara Engle, Edith Haines Kuester, Caroline Frances Hamilton, Constance Eberhart, Edna Gansel, Estelle Gray-Lhevinne, Elyse Aehle, Flori Gough Shorr, Farah Sprague, Eleanor La Mance, Agnes Addison Gilchrist, Alice Maynard Griggs, Harriet Cole Emmons

    Belated congratulations from me too.--Ipigott (talk) 08:47, 7 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Wikidata humans no gender

    [edit]

I've created a consolidate list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Metrics/Wikidata humans no gender. Most of the sub-lists are now empty, but it is quicker to access. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 16:45, 12 July 2025 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks, Rich. I had watchlisted the individual lists, but mainly focus on the current one. From now, I'll visit the summary page weekly but still update the most recent "slice" more often so that it doesn't get unruly. As I update the lists before I work on them, others may find that gender has already been added to the Wikidata item(s).--Oronsay (talk) 19:15, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Rich Farmbrough: is there a help page for gender on Wikidata somewhere? I am curious whether human no gender is the best way of classifying the drag queens on lists 10 and 11. TSventon (talk) 21:12, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a classification, it's a lack of classification. That's the most important thing to say here. Their wikidata item has no gender set.
It's fairly common for drag artists to identify is male, when not in their drag persona. But firstly it's not clear whether the data items are about the performers or the personas. Secondly we need a source.
All the best: Rich Farmbrough 08:57, 20 July 2025 (UTC).[reply]

    Any thoughts on these drafts?

    [edit]

I have 2 drafts about Native American women below:

    Draft:Madeline Cadotte

    Draft:Athanasie Cadot

I am not finished adding everything about them. Just posting these here to get some final thoughts.

I am having some issues with Madeline thought. There appears to be some disagreements about the life of Madeline Cadotte. Despite this many people have, especially Native American women appear to view her in a high regard. Like 2 female Native American scholars have called Madeline a matriarch.

However, the fact that sources are interested in investigating her life and the fact scholars have called her prominent shows that Madeline is Wikipedia worthy. CycoMa2 (talk) 16:29, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    No weekly statistics

    [edit]

I had hoped to update the gender balance statistics today, for our 10th Anniversary. Unfortunately, updates have not been available since 23 June. The team at Humaniki hope to remedy the situation soon. Meanwhile, happy editing! Oronsay (talk) 00:41, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Happy 10 Year Anniversary, Women in Red!

    [edit]

On 18 July 2015, at Wikimania Mexico City, Women in Red was launched. Roger and I thought there might be 15 minutes of interest as ... Who wants to write women's biographies all year? Isn't that just a March thing? Thankfully, we were wrong. Now here we are. Happy Anniversary, one and all. Here's to the next 10 years! Rosiestep (talk) 05:46, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your leadership and encouragement, @Rosiestep and @Victuallers, over the years since I joined on 15 July 2017. Happy Anniversary, WIR! Oronsay (talk) 06:53, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I realize I haven't been active here in a while - I'm sorry about that, but unfortunately circumstances have dictated that I don't have the kind of time I'd like to write the kind of articles I'd like. I hope to come back to it someday. In the meantime, an occasion such as this should not go unmarked...so here's a special birthday greeting from me and some of my closest friends. (Mostly from them...I wasn't singing, merely videographing.) Here's to the next decade! --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:23, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! I got this smug feeling in my chest ... and I realised it was my heart getting a warm and cosy glow that was beaming off my cockles. I'd forgotten they were there. Please share our birthday card with the Capitol Hill Choir and maybe play them our anthem. Thank you so much. Roger aka Victuallers (talk) 10:12, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Cross-posting An unusual offer made today on the DYK talk page, "do you know who the most interesting woman is?"

    [edit]

Did You Know that Edinburgh's "forgotten heroines", Eliza Wigham, Jane Smeal, Priscilla Bright McLaren, and Elizabeth Pease, were associated with the Edinburgh Ladies' Emancipation Society (logo pictured)? On the DYK talk page it says ... Ten years ago Wikimania was in Mexico and @Rosiestep: and I (who had met at DYK) decided to launch a project to address the gender-gap on Wikipedia. The project was a much bigger success that we imagined and it became known as Women in Red. The project was launched with a hybrid talk and a feature DYK hook (above) on the main page. As part of the ten year celebration (and achieving 20% women!!) we will be giving a talk in Nairobi at the Wikiwomen event on 5th August. Women in Red has created a list of the "100 most interesting women"... and we have a good list of 99 or so with Eliza Wigham as No.1. It occurred to me that it would be cool to again have a feature DYK about a leading woman at DYK and this woman could be number 100. But its much too late to create and nominate a feature hook by August 5th, however there may be someone who already has an article/DYK hook in development. Ideally we need the article to have a photo and not be an American or a Brit ((or a bloke! but otherwise we are trying for diversity), an African woman would be ideal. If you think that you might help then do have a go. Maybe drop a note on the Women in Red talk page HERE Victuallers (talk) 10:21, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Instrumental society awards

    [edit]

I have been looking online today for a list of lifetime achievement awardees that I found a couple of weeks ago, and that I had meant to set aside for further consideration. (Alas, it remains elusive to me.) While doing so, however, I found the following lists that might be of some interest/use.

I'm sure there are other similar groups that could be mined for article subjects. Sourcing might be difficult (though I find it's getting a little better for some orchestral musicians), but I suspect having a lifetime achievement award from members of one's own profession would be a good marker of notability in some more niche fields.

Still looking for that list which triggered the search in the first place, though. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:12, 23 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Translating women in film and stage

    [edit]

Hi, I just wanted to stop by the discussion forum to mention that I'll be translating all of the articles created during the Women in Film and Stage event into Spanish, so I encourage you all to create new and exciting articles. I'll be doing this to contribute to the project from my native language, as well as to make information in Spanish more accessible and foster a relationship between the English and Spanish Wikipedias. So far, I've translated Olga Cook's article! --Peridotito (talk) 10:06, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Peridotito, and thanks for keeping us informed of your biographies in Spanish. It's always good to hear about interlingual cooperation. I see you have created somr 1,260 articles in Spanish, including many women's biographies. One of these days, you might like to create articles in English too or at least keep us informed of any deserving translation into English. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 12:20, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Request for feedback/support on draft biography of Annu Gaidhu (Canadian yoga educator & pageant winner)

    [edit]

    Hello everyone,

Foremost, thank you for the work you do. What a great community of women, for women; thank you.

I’m reaching out to request feedback or support on a submitted AfC draft for Annu Gaidhu, a Canadian yoga educator, trauma-informed child and youth care advocate, and former Miss India–Canada titleholder (2014).

Her work spans wellness, social care, and documentary filmmaking, but what makes her story uniquely relevant to Women in Red is the rare intersection of:

    • South Asian cultural identity,
    • trauma-informed refugee advocacy (particularly Tibetan refugee youth), and
    • beauty pageant winners doing grassroots humanitarian work.

She wrote, narrated, and starred in the 2016 film Finding Spirit, a self-funded documentary exploring trauma recovery, yoga, and cultural belonging. Though the film didn’t receive major press coverage at the time, it screened at diversity-focused festivals and won an Award of Merit. It’s important to note this work emerged during a transitional time in media (print to digital journalism), especially in diasporic communities where traditional outlets were downsizing or dissolving.

Some of the notability concerns raised during previous reviews seem rooted in the lack of mainstream media coverage, which overlooks the systemic gap in how BIPOC women, wellness educators, and community-based creatives have historically been documented online.

The article includes citations from regional publications, interviews, academic recognition (including a scholarly book reference), and her role in integrating yoga into social service work.

Given this subject sits at the intersection of gender, cultural minority representation, and evolving forms of public service, I believe her story aligns with the Women in Red mission.

I’d be incredibly grateful for any suggestions, edits, or support in helping this article move forward.

    in solidarity,
