July music

[edit]
story · music · places

Kafka's birthday again, 12 years after the one with the Google doodle. I admire the flowers for blooming although it looks dry. It took a week to get the composer of Mission: Impossible to the main page. The concert I listened to was remarkable, pic added to the performer. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:13, 3 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I would have guessed more recently than that. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:29, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Recently what, - Kafka? (So said Dt. Blofeld.) - Check out my talk, - if you have little time, listen to Gilda Cruz-Romo in the final scene of Aida, if you have more read her article, and if you have still more check out my music, some sung with me in choir, some played by friends, all heard with friends. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:08, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nicolai Gedda would have been 100 today. If you have little time, just listen to his flower song. If you have more read about Helena Tattermuschová, the cunning little vixen. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:38, 11 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Read; thanks for sharing. RIP, HT. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:17, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
She's on the main page. Today you can listen to what the DYK says. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:20, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Today is Bastille Day, commemorated by a DYK as my "story" and a visit to the Bastille Opera in "music". I like the interview coming with the story, with her on the day before the big event, but for pomp and circumstance, the affair with 600 singing children and orchestra, and the singer dressed in the national flag, was also captured on videos, much slower. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:05, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Talk:Helena Tattermuschová - what do you think? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:03, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What do I think? Okay, in general, I prefer (a) fewer white lines and (b) brevity in headers. It's not uncommon for me to leave edit summaries such as "removing extra white lines" and/or "trimming headers". As for the death sentence, I've settled on "died in (city) on (date), at the age of (number)" as alternate versions seem a bit clumsy. That said, I don't feel strongly about any of this points; if I made these edits and subsequently, some editor changed them or reverted me, I would not care. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:43, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I hear you, but I do care about an unneeded "and death" and like the order as you described. I also found help. - Check out places for a great smile, - he had just stepped in to play Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2, successfully! - Enjoy your break! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:28, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway, blocked, - time to breathe instead of reverting. - Three Ukrainian topics were on the main page today, at least at the beginning, RD and DYK, - see my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:26, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Three of "my" recent deaths bios are on the main page right now, one my story today, Gary Karr, and I loved to find his breakthrough concert in 1962 as a video. In my music today I match it with 9 other double bassists (my brother again), 7 conducted by a person who's birthday is today - coincidence ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:28, 23 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Béatrice Uria-Monzon and her story, Julia Hagen and her no story --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:20, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
On Bach's day of death, I decorated my user pages in memory of his music, and my story ends on "peace". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:16, 28 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Back home; playing catch up. Started with reading the articles about Béatrice and Julia; thank you for sharing them. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:57, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Jimmydingdong on Skyline Chili (01:17, 4 July 2025)

[edit]

Hello. I believe that the addition of an unrelated company changing their drink menu is unhelpful and potentially confusing. It adds speculation and rumors. --Jimmydingdong (talk) 01:17, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Jimmydingdong, and welcome to Wikipedia. While you didn't frame your comment in the form of a question, I believe you're asking how to deal with content that you believe is unhelpful, or is potentially confusing/speculative/a rumor. If so, this link provides instructions regarding how, when, why to remove such content. Before you act on this, you may wish to follow the links in the welcome message I just left on your talkpage to learn more about editing Wikipedia. Question from Buxtobe (17:14, 9 July 2025)

[edit]

Dear Rosiestep, could you please help me. My article has been rejected several times by the reviewers for flimsy reasons. Nevertheless, I have always met all the required criteria for resubmission. Now it has been blocked for another submission. Is there a complaints office on Wikipedia that I can contact to have the case clarified? Many thanks for the information and best regards Buxtobe --Buxtobe (talk) 17:14, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Buxtobe and welcome to Wikipedia. Regarding Draft:Bernhard Wessling, it appears that the reviewing editors brought up issues of reliable sources and undisclosed paid editing, but it's a moot point now as you requested deletion of the draft. P.S. I just left a welcome message on your talkpage (with some cookies!) with links that will help you to learn more about editing Wikipedia. Happy editing! --Rosiestep (talk) 15:39, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Atlas Echoed (18:27, 9 July 2025)

[edit]

Hello, I created a political ideology and have no sources or idea of what would be sources as it was pulled from my heart and mind, yet people are consistently attempting to look it up to no avail because it does not have an internet standing. Am I allowed to create a page about an entirely new entity if there are no Sources? --Atlas Echoed (talk) 18:27, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Atlas Echoed, and welcome to Wikipedia. The answer to your question is: no. This page explains why. Happy editing! --Rosiestep (talk) 21:09, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Kellymcneal1988 on Ten Thousand Villages (15:14, 12 July 2025)

[edit]

I found a Harvard article that can support the notion that Ten Thousand Villages is One of the world's largest and oldest fair trade organizations. Should I add it? --Kellymcneal1988 (talk) 15:14, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kellymcneal1988 and welcome to Wikipedia! Here is some information about when and why to add citations, which will help you to decide if you want to add the reference. Also, I just left a welcome message on your talkpage with links that will help you to learn more about editing Wikipedia. Happy editing! --Rosiestep (talk) 15:23, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Destubathon runs until the 16th of July

[edit]

Hi, just a courtesy message to notify you in case you haven't seen the Wikipedia:The World Destubathon contest update in the last few days that we've decided to run the full month until the 16th of July. For those who have been too busy to contribute, we would love some help in reaching 4000 articles by Wednesday night! At present we're about 480 articles short!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:35, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dr. B. Sorry that it slipped my mind to contribute earlier. In the last 24 hours, I added 35 to the main list and 2 to the women's list. I'll try to add more before the deadline. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:53, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Rosie. To be honest I wasn't expecting much from the regulars on this given the time of year, I thought you'd be travelling Europe or something! Near 270 signed up and about 100 people have contributed, so has the potential to be even more productive! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:10, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Shauly555 (08:58, 14 July 2025)

[edit]

I get rejected and I don't understand why. I followed all the rules, and there is already an article about the same subject in Wikipedia in Italian. Can you help please? Thanks you very very much --Shauly555 (talk) 08:58, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shauly555 and welcome to Wikipedia. I know it can be frustrating to edit Wikipedia as a newcomer while you're "learning the ropes". Here's what I think about Draft:Shay Liberman.
I see that you have only been editing that draft article. Mostly, it seems to be helpful for new editors to improve existing articles before they try to create a new article, so that they get through a "learning curve".
I see that the draft article has been reviewed on 5 different occasions by 5 different editors. Looking at the last review, dated 27 June 2025, the editor informs that the article lacks ...significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject.. As I don't edit articles related to sports, I don't know what constitutes significant coverage for professional volleyball players. But there are editors who do know and they are members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports; their talkpage is here. I recommend that you pose your question on that talkpage. But first, read Wikipedia:Notability (sports), if you haven't already done so.
Just FYI, each language version of Wikipedia is entitled to create its own policies regarding notability, etc. Ergo, not every article on IT-WP will qualify for an article on EN-WP and vice versa.
Lastly, I looked at all the references in the draft and augmented some of them. The lesson here is: assure precision and don't just accept what auto-populates a cite template.
Let me know if you have any other questions, and happy editing! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:45, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Árpád Ajtony for deletion

[edit]
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Árpád Ajtony, which you previously marked as reviewed, is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted. The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Árpád Ajtony until a consensus is reached, and you are welcomed to contribute to the discussion.SodiumBot (talk|botop) 15:05, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @SodiumBot and Zuck28: Can you please clarify why I'm receiving this notification when I've never edited the article, nor is it within the scope of work I commonly do? Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:41, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Rosiestep, as the message clearly indicates, you previously marked this article as reviewed. See here. Zuck28 (talk) 15:55, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not SodiumBot, but it's maintainer, @Zuck28 nailed it on the head, the notification is because you had reviewed the article back in 2024. If you have thoughts about it Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/SodiumBot 2 would be the place to put it (since the bot is in it's trial phase). Question from DavidAdamKurz (19:38, 18 July 2025)

[edit]

Can you help me with my page and review if this ia good to go… --DavidAdamKurz (talk) 19:38, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DavidAdamKurz and welcome to Wikipedia. By "good to go", I believe that you're asking if the information in your userpage can be moved into Wikipedia's mainspace so that there a biography about you there. If that's what you're asking, the answer is "no" as it would be a conflict of interest for you to create your Wikipedia biography. (Instead, leave it to other editors to make a decision as to whether or not to create a biography about you.)
Leaving your userpage as is is also not an option; here's an explanation about that. Another editor has informed you that your userpage will be deleted if your userpage remains out of compliance. Unfortunately, your contested deletion comments indicate a lack of understanding regarding (a) appropriate use of a userpage, and (b) why you shouldn't write your autobiography on Wikipedia so the deletion will occur. I recognize that you'll be disappointed reading my assessment. However, it is factual, and I believe that's what you're asking of me. We're all new around here at one time and there's a learning curve, so no worries.
Good news! You can re-do your userpage; just read this first. Please let me know if you have any other questions in this regard. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:41, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Elections | Voting phase

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Voting phase

The voting phase of the July 2025 administrator elections has started and continues until July 29 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • July 23–29 – Voting phase
  • July 30–c. Aug 3 – Scrutineering phase

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for approximately four days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

You're receiving this message because you signed up for the mailing list. To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself from the list.

Question from Simon Itsvilla (09:04, 25 July 2025)

[edit]

Hello! I work at a music management company and have been given the task of updating and creating Wikipedia pages for our artists. We are based in Sweden, but most of the artists are internationally known. One relevant example would be creating pages for solo projects by members of Peter Bjorn and John. Both Abstract Crimewave (formerly Smile) and SunYears have received international recognition and press coverage.

I don't want to write in a biased way, I simply want to add relevant information about major collaborations, awards and projects. Should I begin by creating the missing pages, and then update the existing ones with relevant information where needed?

Thank you for any help you can provide. --Simon Itsvilla (talk) 09:04, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Fmgov (09:57, 25 July 2025)

Fmgov's mentor Ixtal is away.

My drafts haven't been approved or responded to, months now. What's up --Fmgov (talk) 09:57, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Fmgov and welcome to Wikipedia. Add this {{subst:submit}} to the top of the articles you have drafted. This will make them viewable at "Articles for creation" and ready for review. There are a lot of articles awaiting review, so patience is recommended. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:32, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Modular Science

[edit]

Hello Rosie!
Thank you for your advice on Hovrättstorget. I noticed that some pages that I create get "has been reviewed" checkmark almost immediately, while others don't. What do you think could be wrong with e.g. M3 (magazine) or Dagens Juridik?
Modular science (talk) 19:15, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Modular science and thanks for what you do around here. As there's no uniformity at New Page Patrol as to who reviews what and when, it's often a "luck of the draw" as to which articles get quick reviews and which ones don't. Using me as an example: I do a lot of reviews, but only of certain types of articles, and only when I feel like doing it. Some days, I'll review a large bath, and other days, I'll only review 1 or 2 articles, and other days/weeks, I won't review any articles. If other editors have a similar approach, you can see why there's no rhyme or reason why certain articles get quick reviews, and other articles, which are identical in type, don't get reviewed for a while. I guess what I'm trying to say is to be patient and don't take the review time personally. Delayed review of articles may not mean that something is wrong with the article; rather, it could mean that a volunteer editor who likes reviewing the kinds of articles you write is busy with other stuff. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:46, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Rosiestep! 😊

Question from Mj.technology (08:50, 27 July 2025)

[edit]
Mj.technology's mentor Frostly is away.

Dear Mentor, I hope you’re well. My Wikipedia article submission was declined on 27 July 2025 for sounding promotional and lacking neutral tone and reliable, independent sources. I understand the importance of meeting Wikipedia’s standards, especially in terms of notability, verifiability, and neutrality. I truly want to improve the draft and make it suitable for publication, but I’m struggling to revise it correctly. I would deeply appreciate your guidance on how to restructure the article, what kind of sources to include, and how to make it more encyclopedic. Your support would mean a lot as I try to learn and improve. --Mj.technology (talk) 08:50, 27 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Imon.hasan and welcome to Wikipedia. I see that you created this article, CyberCraft Bangladesh, and this draft article, Draft:List of IT companies in Bangladesh. As you have a conflict of interest with both of this, please familiar yourself with this
Regarding Draft:List of IT companies in Bangladesh, the reviewer indicated that you need to use reliable, secondary sources. These would be things like books, magazines, newspapers. These sources would need to provide in-depth information about the topic (not just passing mentions about it). These sources would need to be "independent of the subject", e.g., not your company's website.

Artificial intelligence and Women in Red

[edit]

First of all, Rosie, thanks for taking the time and trouble to keep us informed about AI initiatives in relation to Wikipedia and for suggesting we should put together an essay specifically for contributors to WiR. I must say I was rather surprised at the number of strong reactions against use of AI for creating women's biographies. It reminded me of the violent reactions by the print.setters in Fleet Street when in was suggested computerized editing systems could probably be of assistance. Introduction of new technologies requires a careful examination of the advantages and disadvantages of possible applications rather than simple yes or no assertions.

Unfortunately the amount of time I am able to spend on Wikipedia is now increasingly limited but in reviewing new members, I recently came across a Swiss women who has successfully applied AI to Swiss articles on women and was keen to collaborate with the English version too. In addition to the OKA initiative on AI-based translation, I believe other research groups such as those in Barcelona have been looking at AI as a tool in connection with increasing coverage of women. If I find the time, I'll try to look into this further and provide further details.

In the meantime, it might be useful to draw up a draft list of guidelines in connection with the assistance AI can give to the creation or improvement of articles about women. Advice could also be given on the dangers of using output created by AI tools without careful vetting and further human-based research, etc.

I thought it would be more suitable to bring these points up here rather than prolonging the one-sided discussion on the WiR talk page.
