Question from Mongol Academy Hub (23:59, 25 May 2024)

Hello, I've read an Wikipedia information about throat-singing, which gives a specific focus on Tuvan throat singing in a way that makes the Mongolian throat singing insignificant. Throat-singing or Khoomei is an indigenous Mongolian intangible art, which was originated in Mongolia. Tuvan throat singing is slightly different from Mongolian throat-singing but Mongolian throat-singing is the most classical and authentic version of Khoomei. I provide more academic references about the Mongolian throat-singing "Khoomei". Please advise me on how to suggest edits to this existing Wikipedia article about throat-singing. --Mongol Academy Hub (talk) 23:59, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from Bdjaustexas (23:38, 26 May 2024)

I just want to report an error on a page, but Wikipedia insists on me editing it. I'm not going to go that route, but I'll report the error to you if you wish to correct it.

It is merely a link on the "List of mountain peaks of New Mexico" page. It is "Wind Mountain", listed under "The 30 most topographically prominent summits of New Mexico". It is item 30 in the list.

The link will take you to Wind Mountain in Alberta, Canada. I don't think there is a Wikipedia page dedicated to this New Mexico mountain.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mountain_peaks_of_New_Mexico

Just FYI if you wish to remove or correct the link. --Bdjaustexas (talk) 23:38, 26 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello i am new here, i have just joined wikipedia, i really want to be a prominent wikipedia editor/contributor/writer able to write articles from scratch, plus also doing all other things that can be done with wikipedia --Peaceful Ronnie (talk) 00:03, 8 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from LucasMaple (17:55, 13 June 2024)

Hello! What was your most common contribution when first starting? What should I look out for and focus on? --LucasMaple (talk) 17:55, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

LucasMaple I would recommend starting out with copyediting or reverting obvious vandalism, as those areas of Wikipedia are less confusing. You can also look at your newcomer homepage which can give you some good recommendations too. I personally started out with Articles for Deletion which is not as newcomer-friendly (and I had a pretty bad experience). Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 12:16, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks so much! LucasMaple (talk) 20:56, 18 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from ElmerFD (19:21, 13 June 2024)

Hello! I could really use your help. i would like to add a photo box to my entry on Susanne Sedgwick and Harriet Lansing but don't know how to do that. --ElmerFD (talk) 19:21, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

ElmerFD are you trying to add an infobox or thumbnail image? Instructions on how to insert them can be found with the above links. If you want to upload an image that is not already hosted on Wikimedia Commons or Wikipedia, see the Upload Wizard. Note that most pictures you can find online are copyrighted and cannot be used in Wikipedia articles. Though, I see Sedgwick is already deceased, so if you cannot find a freely licensed photo, you can still upload a non-free file (WP:FAIRUSE). Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 12:21, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
I have managed to edit the info box in my sandbox. Any chance I could share it with you and you could put it. on page or walk me through steps to do so? ElmerFD (talk) 17:56, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
ElmerFD you can edit Susanne C. Sedgwick and add it yourself. You can insert it between the Short Description template and the first paragraph. Question: Why do you use a custom infobox instead of Template:Infobox judge? Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 23:45, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
I am a novice with the coding. As you can see, I didn't manage to put it in the right place. ElmerFD (talk) 20:02, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
ElmerFD, as I mentioned above, infoboxes should be inserted with the appropriate infobox template, in this case Template:Infobox judge. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 12:30, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from Nayeatte (20:31, 14 June 2024)

Hello --Nayeatte (talk) 20:31, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

It would be a good idea to state your question so Sungodtemple can help you out. Ternera (talk) 20:33, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

I'm currently working on Draft:List of closed railway lines in Japan, and I want to ask for your review on the first list (the other lists are obviously incomplete) and see if some parts are cluttered or needs improvement. Thank you. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 04:47, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

AlphaBetaGamma sorry, but I don't want to spend the time to research Japanese railways right now - why don't you try submitting it? Or you could ask the folks at WP:TIJ. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 12:28, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from WHITEfieldDAISY (15:01, 21 June 2024)

Hi, My name is Margaret Szewczenko and I wrote an article about a new proposition of translation of the James Ossuary Inscription. I would like to be able to modify the existing James Ossuary page on Wikipedia i.e. add a table which clarifies the problem and present a new translation. This table is in my article - available on Academia.edu.

Is it possible?

Question from Edenleaf (01:21, 9 July 2024)

Hello could you tell me if there is a wki document or list setting out wikipedia's legal standpoint to make sure page contrubutors abide by online protection of a living person's reputation and/or images posted to wikipedia. Also is there any guidelines to for contributors to abide

by gender/sex based and negative body contributions to female celebrities, politicians and media women which can add to online harrassment and loss of reputation? --Edenleaf (talk) 01:21, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
Edenleaf see the policy on libel and this section of the Biographies of living persons policy, which deal with considerations we need to take when writing articles about people whose reputation could be hurt. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 13:11, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from Sourcefiles88 (00:18, 10 July 2024)

How do I create a new page? --Sourcefiles88 (talk) 00:18, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Sourcefiles88 do you mean creating a page or an article? To create a page, you can just navigate to the page title and create the page. To create a new article, since you are a new user, you have to create a new draft page and submit it. The process is quite complicated, here are instructions that you should read carefully: Wikipedia:Your first article.
However, article creation is completely not recommended at all for people who just created an account, since there are a lot of guidelines to follow and it is easy to mess up. I would strongly recommend starting with easier edits such as those suggested at your newcomer homepage. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 11:02, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from Lori Precious Artist (21:59, 10 July 2024)

Hello! Will you be reviewing my Wiki entry for revisions and approval? I hope I did it correctly! A previous Wiki draft was under Loriprecious and this takes its place. Hopefully, that's all self evident. Many thanks! Lori --Lori Precious Artist (talk) 21:59, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Lori Precious Artist please state the connection between your two accounts publicly, and in the future pick one account to move forward with. It can get confusing to other editors if you are using two accounts.
Are you using Wikipedia to promote yourself? If so you have to read the conflict of interest policy carefully. If you really want to try to write an article about yourself, read Wikipedia:Your first article in its entirety before continuing. And don't be surprised if the resulting article is promptly deleted or rejected - having a conflict of interest makes it extremely hard to write neutral articles that don't include personal knowledge. Question from Fibre H. Bundle (18:48, 16 July 2024)

Hey there! Thanks for being my mentor :) I was wondering what do to with a page like Asado as i stumbled across it. It has a couple sections with no citations, but it also has plagiarism (wholesections copied verbatim from the sources, but not quoted, e.g.) and possibly other issues. I added the original research tag to the article, but i don't know if that's sufficient to indicate this page has more issues, since the plagiarism might be more important. Thanks in advance for your advice! --Fibre H. Bundle (talk) 18:48, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

Fibre H. Bundle plagarism is simply not allowed on Wikipedia. To handle such cases you should check out Wikipedia:Text copyright violations 101#If only part of the article is a problem. If you need any help with that, feel free to message back here and tell me where you are having trouble. It is a somewhat complicated process. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 13:17, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from Rosstei16 (15:39, 18 July 2024)

how do i replace a photo on a wikipedia page --Rosstei16 (talk) 15:39, 18 July 2024 (UTC)

Rosstei16 if you photo you want to add is already uploaded to Wikimedia Commons's database or Wikipedia's servers, see Help:Pictures for guidance on the wiki syntax to insert the photo. Obviously delete the old one.
If the photo is not yet uploaded to Wikimedia Commons's database or Wikipedia's servers, then see the Upload Wizard. Note that Wikimedia Commons only accepts Creative Commons-compatible images, so most photos on the internet are not compatible. Wikipedia accepts Creative Commons-compatible images and those uploaded under fair use. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 13:23, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from School70 (21:43, 18 July 2024)

After ten minutes in the "Sandbox" and "Tutorial" I learned to my surprise that the the process required for a contribution or edit is so technical and full of hip-tech jargon and insider code, that I wonder how open to contributions Wikipedia really wants to be. As a retired lawyer, I wonder how I could explain the process to an intelligent judge, let alone a jury of simple laymen. --School70 (talk) 21:43, 18 July 2024 (UTC)

School70 indeed wiki syntax is very complicated; after all, we need to be able to represent a large variety of things (text styling, links, images, infoboxes, references, example code, etc.) with just text. You may want to try the newer Visual Editor aka VE which is more graphical and might be easier to use. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 13:27, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

FergusArgyll seems reasonable, two other editors already 'agreed' with you on the talk page.
I highly recommend you use Twinkle to semi-automate the process of adding PROD tags. (By the way, PROD tags should be placed on articles and old prod tags should be placed on talk pages). Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 13:46, 23 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from Daeggou (12:06, 25 July 2024)

Hello, thank you for mentoring. I have 2 or 3 questions. Here is the first question. The same spelling mistake in example Zhuang text "i" instead of "u" in cunhyenz (and cunƅyenƨ) appears in multiple languages, is there are easy way to change them all, or is a case of changing one by one? --Daeggou (talk) 12:06, 25 July 2024 (UTC)

Daeggou you will have to correct these mistakes one by one in each language. You may want to try using find and replace feature. What are your other questions?
By the way, you may want to contribute to a Wikipedia in another language. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 06:18, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, I thought as much. Apologies for the slow reply. I have found out the answers to some of my questions, but the outstanding question is to do with moving a page, as having over the years become more aware of the negative connotations of the word Sawndip which can be understood as immature writing system and that a title such as Zhuang Characters would be more appropriate. As this is a new account my guess is should wait until enough edits and time before suggesting such a change. FYI the is also the page Sawndip literature which would need to be moved sooner or later. What advice do you have? Daeggou (talk) 12:49, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
Daeggou you can suggest the move at any time, you shouldn't be held back by lack of experience. That being said, make sure to check Wikipedia:Article titles to understand the policy on article naming. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 18:34, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from LeónGonsalvesofGoa (02:31, 14 August 2024)

I began reviewing an article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Tamil_culture/GA1), and the user who nominated it was responsive and reasonable. While I was awaiting a response to one of my critiques, another user raised several concerns about the content on the page and requested to take over the review. As I learn more from active participation, I politely declined the offer. I believe the article can be improved through discussion with both the nominator and the other user.

What options do I have? --LeónGonsalvesofGoa (talk) 02:31, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

LeónGonsalvesofGoa if I were in your position, I might try to work with the nominator to improve the article, thus learning about the article creation process. Or I might try to go through Good article mentorship and learn how to review GAs. There are a lot of options here. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 14:19, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Georgebrown5566 (22:04, 21 August 2024)

Hi! I stumbled across the page Shirley Ho and it seemed like a self-promotional page (WP:RESUME). It only mentions papers from the author's personal websites / affiliations, and the awards mentioned do not seem relevant enough to warrant academic notoriety. The deletion discussion also revealed a possible conflict of interest / autobiography (the page was largely edited by a user with no other activity, and it has been created and deleted in the past). Did I use the correct procedure for AfD, or should one add additional tags to the discussion / main page? --Georgebrown5566 (talk) 22:04, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

Georgebrown5566 AfD is for situations where notability is unclear, and this is a perfect example. The fact the page was created by a single purpose account would make me consider nominating too. You're doing much better than my first AfD, at least. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 22:12, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
Great, thanks! Should one advertise it somewhere else or is the automatic listing in the deletion lists enough? Georgebrown5566 (talk) 07:23, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Georgebrown5566 automatic listing is enough. It should only be advertised if it is a hugely consequential RFC or proposal, and you also need to be especially wary of canvassing. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 14:30, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from John TF Nash (15:32, 23 August 2024)

Hi,

I want to set up a page for an organisation I am a member of. Can I do this from my account or do I need to set up an account for that page?

Thanks --John TF Nash (talk) 15:32, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

John TF Nash I think you may have a misconception about Wikipedia. A Wikipedia article about an organization is not created by the organization itself or its members, it is created by an uninvolved person who noticed that the organization was notable and deserves a Wikipedia article.
You are highly discouraged from creating or modifying any articles that you are related to, because it is hard to stay neutral and encyclopedic. If you really want to continue, read Wikipedia:Your first article, especially "Are you connected to the article topic?" which will give appropriate guidance. Question from Dermatotoxicologist (14:04, 11 September 2024)

Hello, First, thank you for your help.

How do I enter a citation source? --Dermatotoxicologist (talk) 14:04, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Dermatotoxicologist this is one of the core parts of Wikipedia editing! To learn how to insert citations, see this tutorial. Note unlike academic papers the citation comes after the sentence like this.[1] Not like this[2].
By the way, I saw via your contributions page you added a long Books section to Howard Maibach. Are you Maibach? If so, you may want to consult Wikipedia:Autobiography, and you shouldn't edit the article directly and instead make edit requests. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 20:31, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
Hello Sungodtemple,
I am new to this. It took many hours to compile the Books section, and now I see that someone has deleted it. May I ask you, as an edit request, to reinsert the books section? It has only books that are still in print and verifiable on Amazon. Thank you for reinserting the books section, if you are able to do so.
Dermatotoxicologist Dermatotoxicologist (talk) 01:07, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
Dermatotoxicologist you can always look at and restore previous revisions through the 'View history' button at the top right. I removed it because Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. And are you Maibach? Your editing behavior seems to suggest so. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 17:44, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
Just a brief note to say that user:Dermatotoxicologist's editing is now the subject of a discussion at the conflict of interest noticeboard, WP:COIN. Like you, I'm unconvinced that the material belongs in the Howard Maibach article. I've removed it at least until such time as the user answers the repeated attempts here and elsewhere for them to confirm whether or not they have a conflict of interest in relation to this article. If the user makes a further attempt to install the material I will take steps to have them blocked from Wikipedia.

Question from Se7enNationArmy2024 (15:51, 3 October 2024)

Hello Friend! I'm working to expand the types of editing I do to help improve articles. There's one I'm working on that doesn't have a reference list. I have a reference to add but I don't know how to add it. Could you help me with this? The article is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%E1%BA%A3 my reference is: https://saigoneer.com/saigon-food-culture/17793-ch%C3%A8,-b%C3%A1nh,-ch%E1%BA%A3,-nem-the-curious-lives-of-vietnam%E2%80%99s-regional-food-names --Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 15:51, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

Se7enNationArmy2024 Try looking at Help:Referencing for beginners. Are there any specific troubles you are having? Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 18:47, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Yes thank you! I tried to follow the steps outlined but I haven't been able to get the {{reflist}} template to function properly. I don't understand how to make it add the reference automatically once you add the inline citation. I've messed around in a sandbox but I can't get it to work. What step am I missing? Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 20:35, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Se7enNationArmy2024, that's because you put <nowiki></nowiki> tags around the reflist. Remove the nowiki and it will work. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 21:47, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
I'm trying to do it in visual edit mode - <nowiki> isn't something I'm typing in manually. How would I remove it? Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 22:48, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Ok, my goodness I was over thinking it. I figured it out. Thank you for your help! Sorry to take up so much of your time! Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 23:13, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Update - I was able to bypass the template and just having {{reflist}} under the reference heading is working. It doesn't replace where I typed {{reflist}} - that's still visible. Doesn't feel right. Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 21:50, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Rootless Co$mopolitan (16:49, 8 October 2024)

Hi there, I keep coming across articles from people who seem to be using it for self promotion, is this a big issue on Wikipedia? Every time I flag for deletion they seem to be reverted --Rootless Co$mopolitan (talk) 16:49, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

Rootless Co$mopolitan, if an article is purely self-promotion and removal of the ads would leave no substantial content, then the article can be speedy deleted under criterion G11. However, most articles do not fall under this category. An article being promotional itself is not a good reason for deletion; instead, the article should be rewritten from a neutral point of view.
Based on your public contributions page I see you have proposed deletion for Jess Steele and Jelena Đurović. There are actually multiple deletion processes; one is speedy deletion I mentioned above for trivial cases, the second is Proposed deletion, and the last is Articles for Deletion. Essentially, if a Proposed Deletion is objected to for any reason, then, if you still believe the article is worthy of deletion, it should be taken to Articles for Deletion.
Right now, I would avoid getting involved in deletion process because it is complicated and involves the notion of notability which may be hard to understand. I would recommend you simply copyedit for now; if another editor comes along, they can also nominate it for deletion.
If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 22:03, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from 3-Legged OMoth (03:46, 9 October 2024)

Hello! My name is Bryan. I just noticed that I had been assigned a mentor. So…

I wanted to ask for any guidance you might be able to provide when it comes to starting down the path of becoming a helpful contributor/editor. Why and how did you get started? Do you use any tools (editors, etc.) that help with what you do? Any thing else that comes to mind would be appreciated as well.

Thank you in advance. --3-Legged OMoth (talk) 03:46, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

3-Legged OMoth This is an extremely general question so I cannot give you good advice. There are many paths to go down when editing Wikipedia, such as copyediting, Good and Featured article creation, Did You Know, etc. I recommend you start with edits suggested to you at your newcomer homepage, then you will learn more about the environment here and choose what seems fun. Question from Steamwraith (11:07, 10 October 2024)

Hello! I am currently trying to get a new article approved. It began as a translation of an article from Swedish Wikipedia, but has since outgrown the original. Do you have pointers for me so that I can get it approved? Thanks! Here is the draft: Draft:figgehn. --Steamwraith (talk) 11:07, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

Steamwraith, the declining reviewer mentioned that the draft didn't have sufficient reliable sources, so you should go through your references list and rework/remove any references and associated content supported by unreliable sources. This includes most social media, since they are self-published sources.
Also note that notability on one language Wikipedia doesn't automatically grant notability on another language Wikipedia, since different Wikipediae have different quality standards and notability processes. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 20:36, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Sunilkathasaritasagar (12:50, 2 November 2024)

Hi, Sungod. Thanks for turning out as Metor here. I would like to create a page on Guru Atmananda, a spiritual and wellness guru, an MBBS who for two decades has grown a small dedicated following among urban citizens, mainly in Delhi and Mumbai.

I have some material about Guru Atmananda (real name Prakash C) that can form the published links as defined in Wiki guide on creating pages.

Question- 1.I wish to start with a three para page on Guru Atmanada 2. Will keep adding info on it later, after a few days 3. where do I start 4. I have exactly three indepedent links on which his info can be sources- an magazine article, his website and three youtube channel. --Sunilkathasaritasagar (talk) 12:50, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

Sunilkathasaritasagar You can start by creating a draft to slowly embellish the article. Note that his website is not independent, a YouTube channel is generally not reliable, and a magazine article may or may not work (depending on which magazine, etc.). Make sure you have 2-3 high quality sources which are independent, reliable, and in-depth to establish notability for your subject. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 03:55, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Dan from hu (08:39, 8 November 2024)

Hi Sungod! I'm working on an article about a book. Could you point out what needs improving? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dan_from_hu/sandbox Thank you in advance. --Dan from hu (talk) 08:39, 8 November 2024 (UTC)

Dan from hu the most important thing when writing an article, especially as a newcomer, is making sure the subject is notable. To this end, references should be independent, reliable, and in-depth. It appears both of the references you have cited are not independent, so you should look for 2-3 sources that pass the three guidelines I mentioned. Once you have those, you can start thinking about how your article will be written. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 15:19, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
Thank you very much for the feedback! Have a nice day! Dan from hu (talk) 08:27, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Mulumba2024 (08:10, 15 November 2024)

Hi, I hope this message finds you well. My name is Mulumba Nasiifu, and I’ve been working on editing the biography for John Teira on Wikipedia. I’ve been assigned as your mentee, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with you.

I would appreciate your guidance in addressing some of the comments and suggestions made regarding the article. As this is my first time navigating these processes, I look forward to learning from your expertise and ensuring that the biography meets Wikipedia’s standards.

I would appreciate to provide me with some insights on how to perfectly address the issues in this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Teira --Mulumba2024 (talk) 08:10, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from MileenaG on Talk:Kenite hypothesis (15:03, 17 November 2024)

I’ve never edited a wiki but want an obvious error fixed. The page I was on says “Critical examination of the Book of Genesis narrative of Moses meeting Jethro…” but obviously Moses is not mentioned in the book of Genesis (rather it should say Exodus). I keep running into obvious errors like these but no one seems to be flagging or fixing them so I thought maybe I should learn how to help. Can you teach me how to bring an editor’s attention to an error and maybe even how to edit them myself? Thank you. --MileenaG (talk) 15:03, 17 November 2024 (UTC)

MileenaG You can always use the associated talk page or a noticeboard of a relevant WikiProject to bring attention to any problems in an article. To correct such an error yourself, just edit the page directly, making sure to add a citation where needed. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 16:05, 17 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from FergusArgyll (18:42, 27 November 2024)

I found a source for a stub that was previously unsourced. Upon reading the source, it seems like the Wikipedia text is almost identical to the source. I've tried looking at Wikipedia's copyright rules but they're quite confusing. If this is a violation I'm assuming the whole article would need to be deleted/rewritten?

You can see my edit here (follow the citation I added to see the books text) https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Balloon_clock&diff=prev&oldid=1259902016 --FergusArgyll (talk) 18:42, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

FergusArgyll if there is just one sentence copied, it's probably not an issue. In fact, it is more likely that the book copied the Wikipedia article, since the sentence has been in the Wikipedia article since 2005, and the book was published in 2015, in which case it is better to delete the reference and post on the talk page as citogenesis.
If there was a copyright violation on a Wikipedia article, any part that was copied should be removed, and revision deletion should be requested on any offending versions of the article. Only if the entire article is copied should it be deleted. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 03:51, 28 November 2024 (UTC)

Hello! I was wondering if you could help me with creating a Wikipedia Article for a local band I know. --VCBrennan (talk) 18:14, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

VCBrennan is this about Draft:Violet Courtyard? Please read the comment the reviewer left you - it doesn't seem like they meet notability criteria, so it was declined. You need to work on establishing notability for the band.
Creating articles is an extremely difficult task, which is why it is recommended to start by contributing in smaller ways and learning Wikipedia's unique policies and guidelines. Special:Homepage might be able to give good recommendations. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 22:27, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Question from Goofsabut (02:22, 18 December 2024)

how do you write an article and post it, i dont see the button for it --Goofsabut (talk) 02:22, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

Goofsabut to edit, there is a button at the top of the page. What it looks like depends on whether you are on mobile or desktop. I would advise against creating new articles, since as a new user you probably don't understand all of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines and you have a higher probability of failure. Instead, I recommend you start with easier edits, like those suggested at Special:Homepage, and work your way up to tasks like article creation.
If you really want to create an article, instructions are at Help:Your first article. You should read the entire page and understand that creation of new articles is not an easy task. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 03:48, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I saw that you are assigned me as my mentor. I submitted a page and it got rejected. I need help in improving it. thank you --Sam241224 (talk) 22:06, 29 December 2024 (UTC)

Sam241224 there is loads of advice at the Articles for Creation help desk thread. You need to ensure that the private school is notable, and also write in a less promotional tone. Are you confused about how to achieve either of those goals?
By the way, article creation is a difficult task for new Wikipedians because of the large number of policies and guidelines that must be adhered to. It might be more productive for you to begin with easier edits and work your way up to creating new articles. Special:Homepage should be able to recommend easy edits to begin with, and I recommend starting this way rather than jumping straight into article creation. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 03:47, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
Hi @Sungodtemple, thanks for replying,
Yes, its a bit confusing, especially that "promotional tone", @Qcne told me "The tone should always remain formal, impersonal, and dispassionate. Pretend you're writing an autopsy. Wikipedia only ever describes, never leads the reader or engages them". Thats the most clear instructions I understood about wiki writing. I will try to follow it.
I received same suggestion from others to go slow. I will try to start small and learn the ropes.
Please, guide me when I do something wrong. thank you.
and Happy New Year 2025. Sam241224 (talk) 19:53, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

I'm Tony McMahon - author of several books and on-screen TV expert in a lot of documentaries. I don't have a Wikipedia page but I'm mentioned on Wikipedia and on this page, for example, my name points to a footballer of the same name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Errol_Christie I'd like to create a profile page on Wiki - this is my IMDb profile: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3283865/ --Fabula Tony (talk) 21:50, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

Fabula Tony Hello! The best way to get a Wikipedia article about you is to wait for someone else to create it, as it's surprisingly hard to write neutrally about yourself or someone you know. Of course, neutrality is a core requirement for an encyclopedia, so that's why we highly advise against editing/creating an article about yourself or something you have a conflict of interest with. Paying someone to edit for you goes the same way. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 22:59, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Understood. I created some pages for other people a few years back and used the sandbox before publishing. I hear what you say about the complexity and need for neutrality, which I respect. Hey, I created an account to edit, but sometimes it blocks me because of some IP hosting colocation block? --Nerfcats (talk) 04:56, 31 January 2025 (UTC)

Nerfcats, this might be due to any of a number of reasons including VPN usage. You can also request an IP block exemption if this is an unavoidable problem. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 14:15, 31 January 2025 (UTC)

Question from Gtmbro on Joseph G. Ponterotto (19:18, 3 February 2025)

Hello, Sungodtemple. I'm currently having some difficulty discerning 100% subjective language and true facts that have positive connotation. How should I approach a situation like this? (page title is an example of this) --Gtmbro (talk) 19:18, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

Gtmbro One example: Ponterotto primarily teaches Masters and Doctoral students from a vast range of programs, such as; school psychology, clinical psychology, mental health counseling, school counseling, and counseling psychology. He regularly teaches courses in multicultural counseling, psychological measurement and assessment, career counseling, quantitative/qualitative research methods, and the history of psychology.. We need to specify what this 'vast range of programs' is, as well as compress the extremely long list into a broader category. The second sentence mainly echoes the first one as well. If I were to rewrite this bloated paragraph, I would simply say: Ponterotto teaches graduate-level courses in counseling and psychology. Of course, more research may be needed to see if it's important to include what classes he teaches/what specialties his students are from.

Question from Gtmbro (18:18, 4 February 2025)

Hello, Sungodtemple. Thanks for responding so quick to my last question. However, I've been wondering if my edits so far have been beneficial in the way that I see them. If someone were to find my edits harmful and revert them, how would I know that? Would I be warned (good faith or not) or just notified? Thanks again. --Gtmbro (talk) 18:18, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

Gtmbro I looked through your latest three edits, and they look good! If anyone has qualms and reverts your edit, you should be given a notification, similar to the notification you received on this reply, then of course you can discuss on your/their talk page and work together to resolve the issue. چگونه عکس هایم را در مقاله اضافه کنم --Naveed afghan 2000 (talk) 13:51, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

Naveed afghan 2000 this is the English Wikipedia - you can find the wikipedia in your language here. Using Google Translate that appears to be Persian? And if you are asking how to add a photo, you might find useful instructions here. (Or not, I can't read Persian.) Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 22:48, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Chance997 (15:25, 17 February 2025)

How can I create a draft for Wikipedia? --Chance997 (talk) 15:25, 17 February 2025 (UTC)

Chance997 Article creation is a difficult task for new Wikipedians because of the large number of policies and guidelines that must be adhered to. It might be more productive for you to begin with easier edits and work your way up to creating new articles. Special:Homepage should be able to recommend easy edits to begin with, and I recommend starting this way rather than jumping straight into article creation. Question from Gtmbro (17:21, 18 February 2025)

Hello, Sungodtemple. In regards to the Sudhin Choksey article, the article states that it was created potentially for payment, and that it likely maintains a biased point of view. However, there appears to be no unneccesary language that may contribute to such a POV. Is the article fixed, or does there need to be fine tuning? Also, when a multiple issue box is created and one of the issues are fixed, how exactly would one revert it to a single issue box without damaging the article? Thanks in advance! --Gtmbro (talk) 17:21, 18 February 2025 (UTC)

Gtmbro If the problem was fixed, then you can remove it. Maintenance tags are manually added and removed by Wikipedia editors. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 23:16, 19 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Ashe763 (14:57, 19 February 2025)

Hello, I'm doing some editing on a page about Scott Craig Deerwester, and I want to upload an image of him. The image I want to use is from the Univerity of Chicago's Image Archive, and I'm unsure of the copyright. This is what they say about it, "Images in the University of Chicago Photographic Archive may be used for educational and scholarly purposes, but any such use requires that a credit line be included with any image used." How/Can I use the image, or is it off limits? I'm not sure if it's covered under a copyright license. Here's links to the pages on their website for both the image, https://photoarchive.lib.uchicago.edu/db.xqy?show=browse1.xml%7C705, and the usage rights page, https://photoarchive.lib.uchicago.edu/rights.html. Thanks in advance :3 --Ashe763 (talk) 14:57, 19 February 2025 (UTC)

Ashe763 I believe that would be an incompatible license for Wikimedia Commons, since images uploaded there should be usable for any purpose, including for-profit activities. You could also ask at Commons:Help_desk (on Wikimedia Commons), since I could be wrong.
Meanwhile, you could definitely upload the photo to Wikipedia locally as it falls under fair use. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 23:20, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response! Would I need to paste the credit line under the image? Sorry about bothering you, I just need to know how to credit the university.
Ashe763 (talk) 13:10, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
Ashe763 you do not need to do that, as the user will see the image credits when they click on the "More details" button in the image viewer. If you are still having trouble, Help:Pictures and WP:Image use policy may be helpful. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 14:05, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
Thanks you for helping me with this, its my first editing in a while :3

Question from Ernst the Junger (18:53, 22 February 2025)

Hi! I have begun to make small edits where relevant and have a question. Sometimes I see the "Edit" button which allows me to use the visual text editor, but more often I only see "Edit Source" which forces me to use the source editor (or whatever it's called) with which I'm much less confident. Can clarify whether this is something I can change in my preferences, or is it the case that many articles don't support the visual editor for some reason? Thanks in advance! --Ernst the Junger (talk) 18:53, 22 February 2025 (UTC)

Ernst the Junger at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing under 'Editing mode' you can make Wikipedia show you the visual editor, source editor, both, or the last one you used. You should be able to use both editors for any article. Hope this helps! Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 18:47, 23 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Engineer Asad B. Zaman (02:59, 23 February 2025)

how can I create my own profile at wikipedia --Engineer Asad B. Zaman (talk) 02:59, 23 February 2025 (UTC)

Engineer Asad B. Zaman Hello! Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 19:16, 23 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Lyubanini (09:52, 24 February 2025)

Приветствую Вас:) Можно ли использовать площадку для размещения информации о творчестве начинающего блогера? И если да, то как это лучше сделать? --Lyubanini (talk) 09:52, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

Lyubanini There are other language Wikipedias so you can contribute in your own language. According to Google Translate you are writing in Russian, in which case you should edit at the Russian Wikipedia. In general though, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a place for blogs or advertising. That is what social media is for. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 02:38, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Lau Hansun (06:20, 1 March 2025)

Hello, I have removed a section from a wiki page (over the counter drugs) and wanted to use the information for a new article that I am planning to work on. Is that ok or there is something I should do? I have mentioned about the change in the talk page of over the counter drugs. Thanks! --Lau Hansun (talk) 06:20, 1 March 2025 (UTC)

Lau Hansun why can't the information be included in both articles? (This process is called transcluding). And if you plan to remove the paragraphs from the article, it's probably a good idea to remove it after the new article has been created, not before. Question from Good Result ltd (15:49, 5 March 2025)

I have a text i want to publish. How do I do? --Good Result ltd (talk) 15:49, 5 March 2025 (UTC)

Good Result ltd are you trying to create an article to promote your own company? If so you should probably stop and find somewhere else to promote your company - Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place for advertisements.
If you are serious on creating a neutral, encyclopedic article (not about your company), I would recommend starting with easier edits to get the feel of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Some are suggested at your user homepage. Then, you can look at the page for creating your first article (WP:YFA). Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 02:16, 6 March 2025 (UTC)

Eliegheytanchi if this is for self promotion, then the article will certainly not be accepted as Wikipedia is not for advertising, rather it is an encyclopedia.

Question from GlyphHopper (12:52, 16 March 2025)

Hi, I'm mostly planning to expand the Icelandic Wikipedia. What is customary to do when I find a link to a page that does not yet exist. Should I just add it with basic information but should I draft up a more complete page first before adding it? --GlyphHopper (talk) 12:52, 16 March 2025 (UTC)

GlyphHopper, I'm guessing you should first create a draft before publishing the article on the Icelandic Wikipedia. I'm not sure though since I edit the English Wikipedia. Different language Wikipedias are completely separate projects and can have different rules, so I would recommend asking someone on the Icelandic Wikipedia. Hello. I think I’d like to create a profile. I’ve been approached by many agencies to put a profile together. Can I submit an application ? --Akigeo123 (talk) 01:01, 18 March 2025 (UTC)

Akigeo123 if you are considering paid editing, you please read the page on paid editing first. Also remember that it will be extremely difficult to remain neutral while a company is paying you.
