User talk:AlphaBetaGamma
Due to real-life events, I am physically not in a state to be able to rapidly edit like I have been doing in 2024 to February 2025. I'll still edit occasionally, finish up ongoing DYKs, watch them run, but you'll see me far less often for the time being. I have regained a usable editing device, but I'm only getting busier in real life compared to 2024.

Question from Mgkhvffd on Wikipedia talk:Why create an account? (00:59, 8 May 2025)
[edit]Hello,
I would like to respectfully bring attention to the importance of using the correct historical name "Persian Gulf" throughout this article, without giving legitimacy to any politically motivated alternatives such as "Arabian Gulf."
The term "Persian Gulf" has been used for over 2,500 years and is the only name recognized by the United Nations, UNESCO, and almost all historical and geographical documents. The UNGEGN (United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names) has officially recommended "Persian Gulf" as the standard name.
Using alternative names compromises historical accuracy and creates confusion. Wikipedia is known for neutrality and factual integrity, so I hope this concern will be taken seriously and edits will reflect internationally accepted standards.
Thank you. --Mgkhvffd (talk) 00:59, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Mgkhvffd, Your only edit was to my user talk page here. The concern you are raising is not related to Wikipedia talk:Why create an account? at all, so I'm assuming you edited under an IP address before.
- For the "Persian Gulf" concern, Wikipedia does use Persian Gulf as the primary/main name, and lists "Arabian Gulf" as an alternate-ish name by mentioning how the Persian Gulf has a naming dispute. (discussion here) Similar cases are Gulf of Mexico, as you may already know, has a naming dispute due to politically-motivated pressure on companies like Google. In that page, Gulf of America is also mentioned as a alternate-ish name inside a section.
- In conclusion, I don't see any problems. Providing a specific details helps me write a better answer.

- Dobrý deň, obávam sa, že neviem po slovensky a na zobrazenie vašej správy používam strojový preklad. Ak je to možné, zvážte namiesto toho úpravu na slovenskej Wikipédii. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 01:02, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
DYK for Kinkaku-ji arson incident
[edit]On 9 May 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Kinkaku-ji arson incident, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the arsonist who burned down a golden Buddhist temple secretly removed one nail, then reinserted it, then removed it again? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kinkaku-ji arson incident. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Kinkaku-ji arson incident), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Question from Aidepikiw12344 (03:22, 9 May 2025)
[edit]Hello I was wondering how to cite a book. Thanks for the help --Aidepikiw12344 (talk) 03:22, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- There is a {{Cite book}} Template you can use. An example can be found in most articles, such as Kinkaku-ji arson incident, where at the bottom of the page, there is a "Bibliography" section with three === things. Then use the "Sfn" template next to the claim you want to source. The templates are formatted like-
- You can do it like this![1]
- It looks a bit complicated, but it's not too much when you're used to it. Hope this helps. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 04:03, 9 May 2025 (UTC) AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 04:03, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

Are you going to finish reviewing this? You added the tag back in April. If not if you could remove it that would be helpful :D. Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 15:48, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

Draft: Council for Secure America
[edit]Hi @AlphaBetaGamma hope you're doing ok. I came across Draft:Council for a Secure America and would like to have a go at resubmitting another draft. In my draft I've put together, I've removed the fluff and poor references and found a number of much better ones. Would this be possible? MaskedSinger (talk) 07:13, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Sure, but where's your version? AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 02:19, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- @AlphaBetaGamma Great! Thank you. I was working on it in google docs as I first wanted to see if there was enough material and sources. I believe there is but having said this, if the reviewer feels differently, than obviously that's their call. Should I click on the "ask for advice" button that's on the draft article? MaskedSinger (talk) 05:57, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- You're already asking for advice here. Others will likely point this out as well. I can't look at your google docs, so you should probably copy-paste it in Wiki format on your sandbox or something. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 14:46, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- I wasn't asking you to look at my google doc. Lol. I was asking you to unlock the draft so I could resubmit one. MaskedSinger (talk) 15:31, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Well, I just did undo the rejection assuming good faith. Just add your draft to that thing an you should be good to go. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 23:07, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! By no means do I assume its a slam dunk. If you think it's problematic, by all means, let me know. MaskedSinger (talk) 19:29, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
