Edits

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for the helpful edits to the article. As a non-native English, I was having hard time on that article. I just wanted to turn a first emoji article to GA, but it seems hard. I'm not even sure if this source [1] could be useful either. Thats why I just placed it at the talk page. 🍕BP!🍕 (🔔) 00:16, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It is hard, I appreciate your efforts. I'll move this discussion to the talk page in case there's other interested parties. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 00:19, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Kinda doubt someone will weight in at the silly Poop emoji article lol. 🍕BP!🍕 (🔔) 00:22, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The 2025 Core Contest Winners!

[edit]

The winners of the 2025 Core Contest are announced 🎉. An great turnout with a impressive variety of articles and laudable improvements. The judges (Aza24, Femke and Casliber) would like to thank everybody who joined and congratulate the winners.

  • First place (and a prize of £120) goes to Phlsph7 (talk · contribs) for his systemic overhaul of the Political Philosophy article. What was once an unwieldy entry—dominated by a sprawling history section of nearly three dozen subsections!—is now an accessible and well-structured survey of a complex and often polarizing subject. We particularly commend Phlsph7’s global, inclusive, and comprehensive approach. He has once again demonstrated exceptional skill in handling core topics with clarity and balance.
  • Second place (and a prize of £100) goes to Dracophyllum (talk · contribs) for their outstanding work on both Trunk and Flower. The former was reimagined from a ~200 word stub into a richly detailed and impeccably sourced overview—an effort truly worthy of its dedicatee, the late and much-missed Vami IV. Meanwhile, their improvements to the Flower article transformed an already strong entry into an exceptional one, now well on its way to passing FAC.
  • Third place (and a prize of £80) goes to Vigilantcosmicpenguin (talk · contribs) for his major development of the Niamey article. The entry now proudly stands among the finest city articles on Wikipedia—from thirty scattered references to nearly 400 high-quality academic sources. We particularly commend his inclusion of numerous French-language sources and thoughtfully comprehensive approach to the topic.

Pledge

[edit]

Thank you! I am hoping for more imitators and more visibility, so I am waiting a little to see if others join in before starting reviews. I also started tracking what happens, hopefully to convince others that this is not only fun, but also worthwhile. —Kusma (talk) 09:36, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article The Oxford Companion to Sugar and Sweets you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of Kusma -- Kusma (talk) 13:07, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody started reviewing my nom, so I am now reviewing yours :) I hope there will be other pledged reviews for you to choose from soon; I am doing my best to advertise the concept. —Kusma (talk) 13:16, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Special Barnstar
Thank you for expanding Torta caprese with much more information that I was initially unable to find. Vacant0 (talkcontribs) 13:12, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Vacant0 :) Glad I could help. I have a feeling we should update Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/Tools/sources to share techniques; I feel like I picked up a lot writing white chocolate which I'm keen to share. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 13:32, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's actually a good idea. I'll add it to my to-do list. Vacant0 (talkcontribs) 13:34, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We could style it like Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Sources. What do you think? Vacant0 (talkcontribs) 13:36, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Great idea. I'm not super keen on the RSP style at the bottom, but I'm excited to see where we can get this. I'll drop some preliminary stuff on the talk, tell me over the next few months + when you have some time. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 13:51, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

I just finished working on User:Vacant0/Sources. If you want to incorporate Serbian sources into your non-English BEFORE list, feel free to pick sources and add them to your list. Cheers, Vacant0 (talkcontribs) 16:02, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent, I'll add these shortly. I'm hoping to get more involved in AfD to gain confidence with edge-case notability, so the list should start bulking out soon. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 17:28, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

First off, thanks for taking the time to review the GA nomination and for giving me good feedback. I plan on reading more of the Encountering Pennywise book you mentioned. I have a few questions though:

  • How would you recommend I clean up the conception and appearances sections? You said there were things in both sections that you think belong in the other, but I am not exactly sure how to divide them. I've moved a few paragraphs from the appearances section into the conception section in an effort to start cleaning it up but am not sure what else I should do to address the messiness of the section.
  • How would you recommend I "split analysis from reception"?

Crunky crunch chocolate bar
Congratulations on the recent FA promotion of white chocolate! I've actually learned a lot from the articles you've written. Wikipedia is lucky to have someone as well read as you are on the best food in the world. Good luck on your future projects. Yue🌙 06:08, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Yue, as ever. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 08:14, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RIGH. I saw you GA fail It (character) on my watchlist. I wanted to give some bystander feedback. Failing it on the basis of being 'Broad' strikes me as a missed opportunity at best.

One of the Pledge system's great perks is customising requests. The nominator's pledge request read: I've never had a successful GA nomination before, so I'd like a reviewer who can give me advice and help with any issues. Reading this pledge, I think it's quite reasonable that they hoped for a reviewer who would spend time with them, polishing the article up, essentially co-contributing through the review process.

The nominator looks pretty young. So to see it failed on the basis of broad, without giving them time to reply, simply doesn't seem charitable. I'm not sure what we gained through your review (I doubt the nominator learned anything; I suppose our GA standards were rigorously defended?) but I have a sense of what we might lose (a young contributor).

If you don't have time to give dedicated help to a young editor who needs it, you don't need to give it. But I would gently suggest just avoiding the GA review. "Broad" seems like a particularly unfortunate criterion to fail an article on because, especially with an eager contributor, it could be relatively straightforward to fix. As I said, I think that was a huge missed opportunity. Cheers — ImaginesTigers (talk) 07:41, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey ImaginesTigers, good to see you here. Thanks for the note, certainly gives me pause for thought and I'm glad I've got an opportunity to reflect on my approach. Would you be willing discuss further? Either here or over email if you'd prefer. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 08:14, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'll shoot you an email over — ImaginesTigers (talk) 08:15, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You're not going to lose me as a contributor. Both Stephen King and Wikipedia are important to me and I'd love to contribute to the It (character) article. I'm willing to see it through to GA no matter what it takes (especially since he? she? it? is my favorite horror character). And, after looking through some additional sources I had to agree that broadness was lacking in the sections that were mentioned. I am thinking about replacing the reception section with what's in my sandbox, both of you please feel free to take a look at it and let me know what you think. Gommeh 🎮 01:31, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Really glad to hear Gommeh. I think broadness is a good issue to have, as once material is integrated you're good to go. I want to skim Encountering Pennywise before I leave comments, but I think it already looks like it's better engaging with the literature. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 01:47, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Gianduja

[edit]

Hi Rollinginhisgrave, yes I'm from Piedmont but I don't actually live there, and neither in Italy unfortunately, so I do not have access to libraries for this topic. I visit Piedmont not regularly but at least every year, but when I'm there I'm always quite busy so I'm afraid I can't help you. But I do know wikipedians that live in Piedmont, I can ask them if they can help. :-) Let me know if you have other specific questions. Regards, Phyrexian ɸ 09:42, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Phyrexian: Ah, that is unfortunate. If you could ask them if they could help access any of those texts or portions that would be amazing. Thanks, Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 15:42, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I already asked and it seems there are some difficulties, due to the fact that the texts are not digitalized, so it would be complicated to share them. Also in this period of the year (July and August) most people in Italy are on vacation and leave their cities. I will let you know if I get some update, but to be honest I would'n expect much until Semptember. --Phyrexian ɸ 13:17, 23 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No rush, if there's anything I can get at any time I'll be grateful for it. A lot of the English language sources about the history are directly contradicted by the Italian language sources, and I would like to get it right. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 16:52, 23 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of reliable sources noticeboard discussion

Thanks Gommeh, I've left a note. I'll get back to It (character) over the next day or two, after I wrap up some other work. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 16:05, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. But there is no scheduled notice for it on the talk page. It's sked for both Aug 23 and Sep 22. I'll let Wehwalt know. MisawaSakura (talk) 21:52, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

As the reviewer for GA status, I am impressed with further development of the article, my congratulations! Szmenderowiecki (talk) 10:54, 28 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the article is written in British English, not American English; could you please take care of that? JacktheBrown (talk) 11:50, 23 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Drive-by comment: I don't think that would be necessary per MOS:RETAIN. The userpage of the article's creator says they are British, and MOS:RETAIN says use the variety found in the first post-stub revision that introduced an identifiable variety [...] An article should not be edited or renamed simply to switch from one variety of English to another. Gommeh 🎮 14:52, 23 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Gommeh for weighing in. Not sure about the particulars of this part of the MOS. Regardless, sorry Jack for introducing inconsistencies as I go, I usually clean these up and other MOS/formatting issues when I've finished adding content which I'm about halfway to at the moment. I can, although it may take me a while to get to as I've got other pages I'd like to address first. I've left a note on the talk page for now. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 00:36, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Melanzane al cioccolato

[edit]

On 25 July 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Melanzane al cioccolato, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that some Italians eat eggplants with chocolate? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Melanzane al cioccolato. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Melanzane al cioccolato), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

You could come to Italy to taste some of our dishes. JacktheBrown (talk) 11:50, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'd love to. I'll see how desperate I get to access those texts for gianduja. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 12:08, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you expanded this article, so I uploaded a picture I took of a dubai chocolate ice cream commons:File:Dubai chocolate ice cream.jpg. I'm aware that there also other variations such as dubai chocolate pancakes, cakes, and drinks, so maybe you could include it in the article (if there are RS for this ofc). I know that Shake Shack is offering drinks. Vacant0 (talkcontribs) 10:12, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou so much, adding it now. I've been a little reluctant to work on Dubai chocolate as the sources aren't really there for a solid article, but I feel a certain obligation to add to it given it receives more views than every other chocolate page combined. How was the ice cream btw? Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 10:20, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah... it has 156k page views in the past month. I did not taste it sadly, my friend bought it so I ended up taking a picture of their ice cream. Maybe I'll try next time, who knows. The chocolate itself was tasty to me at least. Vacant0 (talkcontribs) 10:29, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to hear the chocolate was tasty, I haven't tried (and don't feel much of a need to). Off topic and on the subject of food photography, I did really wanted to host a Wikipedia bake-off to add quality food images and because it would be fun... but seems like there's a few reasons that's not a good idea. What do you think? You're more familiar than most with the state of Wikipedia's food media. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 10:49, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I would definitely participate in that! IAWW (talk) 11:56, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Amazing! I may message you on or off wiki to get your thoughts on such a thing could work if that's okay. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 12:14, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes for sure IAWW (talk) 12:19, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a cool idea. I'd give it a try. Vacant0 (talkcontribs) 12:21, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
