Language tags

Hi, any reason for removing language tags from references, for example here [6] ? cagliost (talk) 21:31, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

Compare:
{{cite book |title=Example |language=en }}
Example.
{{cite book |title=Example }}
Example.
{{cite book |title=Example |language=fr }}
Example (in French).
It's written somewhere (MOS, possibly) that English and its variants (such as en-GB) should not be stated in that parameter, but I can't put my hand on the link at the moment. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:04, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
Thanks. I see it is implied by "Template:Cite news", which states the language tag is to be used to cite foreign language sources. By implication, it is not necessary for English-language sources. cagliost (talk) 15:02, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
From the documentation at {{Cite web}} and other citation templates: Because cs1|2 templates are often copied from en.wiki to other wikis, the use of language codes is preferred so that language names render in the correct language and form, e.g. espagnol at a French-language wiki instead of the English word "Spanish". Leaving |language=en in place, even though it does not display anything, is considered helpful to editors who translate articles for Wikipedias in other languages. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:04, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

What is the meaning of "WS" ?

Hello ! I read one of your edit and I'd like to know if WS = Whitespace.

I'd like to know what is the problem and if you consider that I did acted acted in violation of a "policy" or a "guideline".

I don't understand what is wrong with my edit and I try to understand what is the mistake. Anatole-berthe (talk) 21:00, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

Yes, "whitespace". You don't need to put double line-breaks between each part of an indented comment. Note that no-one else on the page - or any other - does so. This is particularly important on The Teahouse, where we need to demonstrate to new editors the right way to do things. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:36, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
Thanks you for your answer but there are something that I didn't understood.
Is this wrote somewhere we should not do this or this is a non-written custom ? Anatole-berthe (talk) 00:52, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
It's the community norm.
Conversely, where is it written that you should do it? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:05, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
Now , I did understood that this is not written somewhere because this is a "community norm".
When I said "non-written custom" , I was referring to the term "community norm".
Thanks for your time and yours explanations ! Anatole-berthe (talk) 10:13, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

Wrong template

Just to mention your use of wrong template created a bit of a mess, which I've fixed! Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:51, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

Request for follow-up on Muhammad Aman Ullah (activist) draft

Hello Andy,

Thank you again for your earlier guidance and support with my draft: Draft:Muhammad Aman Ullah (activist). I’ve done my best to follow all recommendations and have added inline citations, disclosed my conflict of interest, and submitted through Articles for Creation.

The draft was unfortunately declined with the explanation that the sources do not show “significant coverage.” I understand this is a common hurdle for biographies, but I wanted to respectfully ask:

In your editorial judgment, do you believe the draft currently meets notability, or is there anything more I should improve before resubmitting?

I would be sincerely grateful for any further thoughts or support you can offer.

With respect, Muhammad Aman Ullah (M.A.U-Mr.Human) M.A.U-Mr.Human (talk) 02:07, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

I agree with the reviewer. The question you need to ask yourself before resubmitting is "which two (or preferably three) sources show significant coverage of the subject in an independent, reliable source. Significant coverage must be in depth, and about the subject; not something with which they are merely associated. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:35, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

You dont just remove a template because you dont like it. Persisting in doing so can get you blocked. See Help:Maintenance template removal Wellington Bay (talk) 11:41, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

Your fork of my essay

I object to your fork of User:RoySmith/Three best sources to Wikipedia:Three best sources. For sure, the CC-BY-SA license which covers my essay gives you the legal right to do that, but what you've done will just lead to confusion and, to be honest, is disrespectful. If you want to write your own essay, please go ahead and do so. Other people have done so (see, for example, Wikipedia:Multiple sources) but please don't just copy my words and use the same title. RoySmith (talk) 12:37, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

If you don't want your text to be reused, don't use an open licence. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:43, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

User:Qwertyytrewqqwerty/DisamAssist

Hi. I was asking about why User:Qwertyytrewqqwerty/DisamAssist coding wasn't working. It appears I would have to bypass my cache. I'm not going to worry about using DisamAssist. Sorry about that. Cwater1 (talk) 19:10, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

Wh67890

I am here because this won't make a good scene there.

Assume good faith, what do you mean by good faith? The guy is asking to write an article related to his profile, which is not just non-notable but also contains unreliable files. I am assuming a good faith but that does not mean I am not supposed to tell him the facts. Also some of us will target the same guy when he will make the mistake on creating the page. I am doing him favor to stop him by making his day bad because he has not got enough resources to create an article. cut the snark Probably that feels snark, probably what I just wrote there is full of snarky ideas instead of a soft warning. As I said, what I wrote was mere information, which could feel snark (wonder how you guessed that), and it depends on if you read it carefully or think it as snark. Again, have a good day! Wh67890 (talk) 10:45, 12 June 2025 (UTC)

I provided a link in my original comment. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:48, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
You mean link to WP:Assume good faith? Well I have good understanding on it, But neither of that are reliable in this case because he is stepping in the wild fire, I am supposed to tell him how to walk there, Walking in fire is not a good faith, it need certain kind of skill, being a Wikipedian requires ability to understand this and that or you will target the same guy when he will make the mistake. I am telling this from my own experiences. Have another good day! Wh67890 (talk) 10:52, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
None of this excuses your tone on The Teahouse. You will either moderate it, or end up with blocks. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:01, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
Pardon me, why should I excuse you? Wh67890 (talk) 12:16, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
