Question from Gpdwinmini (03:52, 6 February 2025)

Dear Mentor, I found there is "Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion" on my Talk Page. I declare all the potential conflict, could I edit the related Page? Thanks, Peter --Gpdwinmini (talk) 03:52, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

Gpdwinmini Your user page says that you are not related to certain things. Declaring your conflict of interest means listing the things you want to edit that you are related to. You might want to ask at the noticeboard section Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#Grace Choy where it's being discussed. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 04:09, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

The article The New Mutants (graphic novel) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:The New Mutants (graphic novel) for comments about the article, and Talk:The New Mutants (graphic novel)/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article is eligible to appear in the "Did you know" section of the Main Page, you can nominate it within the next seven days. DYK for Franz Jonas

On 7 February 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Franz Jonas, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the fourth president of Austria's post-secondary instructors included all three of his predecessors? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Franz Jonas. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Franz Jonas), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Question from MarkovskiM (15:24, 13 February 2025)

Hello! I made a band page "Vostok-2 (Estonian band) for my own band. How to continue to make it public? Best Marko --MarkovskiM (talk) 15:24, 13 February 2025 (UTC)

Hello MarkovskiM! Wikipedia exists to document things neutrally, summarizing what is said about them in reliable sources. Since you're part of the band, you have a conflict of interest and someone else will have to approve it to make sure it's neutral and well-sourced. To qualify for an article on Wikipedia, the band will need to be the subject of reliable, independent sources. Generally this doesn't happen until after a band has "made it big" so to speak. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 16:42, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
Ok. We only have 500+monthly international listeners on spotify. That won't do?
Best 91.129.97.222 (talk) 18:30, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
Yeah. While the number of listeners is not the deciding factor, it's very unlikely that reliable sources will write about new and upcoming bands. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 20:33, 13 February 2025 (UTC)

Work on Marvel Comics

Hello. I just wanted to tell you that I really appreciate your work on Wikipedia. You've made many wonderful articles about different topics that have been fun reads, but I'm especially happy about all the work you've done on various Marvel-related articles. I never would have thought there is so much to say about something like The Death of Captain Marvel. Your work on that article made me realize how rich the story is and now I want to read it when I get the chance. I'm also really happy about the work you've done on Iron Man and Black Widow, as well as your current work on God Loves, Man Kills.

I also wanted to let you know that I'm still going through the Black Widow article, and will place my comments in the FAC when I'm done. I'm sorry for being so anal with my FAC reviews and looking at every little thing. The thing is that I WANT articles like Iron Man and Black Widow to become FA, but I don't want to give my support just because. I want to actually do the work and help the articles become better. Hopefully my comments won't be too off-putting. PanagiotisZois (talk) 12:17, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

Thank you! I actually started working on The Death of Captain Marvel because I had just read it for the first time and enjoyed it so much. And no need to apologize about a review. The whole point of sending it to FAC is to confirm it's the best that it can be! Thebiguglyalien (talk) 17:18, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
Congrats on God Loves, Man Kills!! I've almost reached issue #150 of Uncanny X-Men, so at some point in the near future, I'd like to finally read the graphic novel. One a somewhat unrelated note, I was curious about something with the Black Widow article. Based on the sources you've read, do any of them talk about the Red Room as a space? As in focusing on the Red Room and maybe analyzing it? I've read essentially zero Black Widow comics, but the Red Room caught my eye; like how it being red connects to communism and Soviet Union's flag, but also blood, representing the violence of the Black Widow programme. Do any of the sources discuss things like that? PanagiotisZois (talk) 00:46, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
I didn't come across much beyond passing mentions in the sources, but I can only assume they had that sort of thing in mind when they called it the Red Room. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 04:57, 16 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Akashie94 (10:28, 18 February 2025)

Hey! I have noticed that the department I work at, is not there on wikipedia. I want to add a page about the department on wikipedia. what is the process behind it, what all do I have to do, can I even do it since I read some articles I cant post it etc. --Akashie94 (talk) 10:28, 18 February 2025 (UTC)

Hello Akashie94! For Wikipedia to cover a subject, there have to be reliable, independent sources about it, so you'll have to find these first. Most organizations don't have this, but if the department has received significant press coverage through its existence, then it might qualify. From there you'll want to read the conflict of interest guide. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 15:50, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
The department comes under the government, and it has come under many media coverages I believe. I will read more about from the links you have linked, should I know anything more about it? I have heard that sometimes the page might get flagged and removed? maybe even go for a review which takes months? And thank you for your prompt response, appreciate it Akashie94 (talk) 06:32, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
Sorry for bothering you and cluttering the page here with my questions, I am new here and I did read a lot on this. I have a basic idea now. I also spoke with my manager regarding this, and wanted to clear some things. The department I work in is under the gov for the whole state. So while the gov appears on wikipedia, our department does not show. Our department is all about sustainability and energy management so having a page made sense. We do have notability, as in a detailed article about us but it’s more like interviews? something along those lines, would those count?
I read about we ourself creating it and the guidelines with regard to the conflict of interest things and what to do in case we outsource it as well. But what exactly is the path we should take since we are a government department? Akashie94 (talk) 10:41, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
No worries, that's what I'm here for! It is possible that an article will be removed if it doesn't meet Wikipedia's notability requirements, so it's good that you're addressing that first. Interviews generally don't count because the department is involved there. The sources have to be independent, which means they were created without the department's involvement. If there are any books or news pieces that cover the department's history, that would be very helpful for this.
You are allowed to create an article about your own department, but it will have to be checked by volunteers on Wikipedia to make sure it's neutral and complies with Wikipedia's other policies. Sometimes that can take a while because there are a lot of articles that need to be checked. You'll also need to follow Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure since you're doing this for an employer. The easiest way to do that is to create your userpage at User:Akashie94 and write a statement saying you're working on behalf of that department. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 16:52, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
Thank you! So let me just say what I’ll do now, Ill create my own user page and then I’ll look for such sources, cite them and create a content for the department. Upload it for review or make that draft, so that the volunteers here in their own meantime ofc suggest edits or opinions on it. Since it’s kinda like a big deal I dont want it to get flagged and taken down, I have read that itll take a long time to get it back running. Then publish it right? does this sound good?
And some things I should look out for is my conflict of interest policy. I will also mention that and create the content in a Neutral pov. It’s okay to do that as well right? as in no rule whcih says I cannot create it since I work here?
Since we are a government department, is this the best and legal way to do it? or is there some other way, cuz I dont want to mess it up.
Also I found some people who have created webpages for similar departments, would it be possible for me to dm them for their help, I was just wondering they can lmk if there are easier way since its all gov entities. Is all of this fine? if I should not anything else pls lmk. Akashie94 (talk) 10:09, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
Akashie94, yes, that should be everything! Just make sure the sources you use meet Wikipedia's requirements. Optionally, you can use the article wizard to help set up the draft. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 16:52, 20 February 2025 (UTC)

Reem bint al-Waleed Al Saud moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Reem bint al-Waleed Al Saud, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. NenChemist (talk) 14:42, 18 February 2025 (UTC)

NenChemist, could you expand on what the issue with this article is? It's hardly my finest work, but it is properly sourced. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 15:52, 18 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Cjupchurch (21:41, 18 February 2025)

How can I change my username --Cjupchurch (talk) 21:41, 18 February 2025 (UTC)

Hello! All of the information about how to change your username can be found at Wikipedia:Changing username. Also know that writing about yourself on Wikipedia is strongly discouraged and promotional content of any kind is not allowed. You might want to remove the promotional content from your userpage. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 21:55, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
What promotional content? 160.3.133.232 (talk) 21:56, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
The content that talks about how great Christopher J. Upchurch is and includes his resume. That sort of thing is not allowed on Wikipedia. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 21:59, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
No it doesn’t it talks about what it looks like about anyone else is on Wikipedia. Thanks though. 160.3.133.232 (talk) 22:03, 18 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from LLarysaLingva (14:35, 20 February 2025)

Hello! i have registered myself and am still learning how to add materials in different formats in diff. articles. I also want to add my article about a German company. It will be brief info with several facts and history including links and references. Please tell me if I can do that in the beginning of my experience with Wikipedia, or I have to continue editing smaller sections or info in other articles? Thank you very much for your reply. Kind regards, Larysa --LLarysaLingva (talk) 14:35, 20 February 2025 (UTC)

Hello LLarysaLingva! You're certainly allowed to create a new article if you have references that show it meets Wikipedia's notability requirements. The references will need to be from reliable sources that are independent of the company. You can use the the article wizard to set up a draft if you like. Are you affiliated with the company in any way? If so, there are additional considerations. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 16:57, 20 February 2025 (UTC)

WikiCup 2025 March newsletter

The first round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As a reminder, we are no longer disqualifying the lowest-scoring contestants; everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned from Wikipedia. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. Unlike the round points in the main WikiCup table, which are reset at the end of each round, tournament points are carried over between rounds and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far.

Round 1 was very competitive compared with previous years; two contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 500 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 18 featured articles, 26 featured lists, 1 featured-topic article, 197 good articles, 38 good-topic articles and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 23 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 550 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2, which begins on 1 March. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. TDSB

I reverted your edit at Toronto District School Board. The tag on the section says, "This section may lend undue weight to certain ideas, incidents, or controversies. Please help improve it by rewriting it in a balanced fashion that contextualizes different points of view." It doesn't say "delete it all". I agree it needs a trim though. I'll try to remove or trim the obvious cruft. Thanks for your understanding. Magnolia677 (talk) 15:48, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

How do i make a new article? --SpitFire5075 (talk) 10:30, 1 March 2025 (UTC)

Hello SpitFire5075! The first thing you want to do is make sure that what you're writing about meets Wikipedia's notability requirements. Most things don't qualify for their own articles. You'll need to find several reliable, independent sources that cover what you're writing about. If you can find that, then you'll use the information from those sources to write a draft. Hello there @Thebiguglyalien. I believe that you have been assigned as my mentor on Wikipedia. The original article did not have correct information and I had been alerted by readers of the same. Please review the page ' Bijoy Prasad Singh Roy', comment in the talk section and please let me know where improvements can be made.
