Administrators' newsletter – January 2025
News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2024).
- Following an RFC, Wikipedia:Notability (species) was adopted as a subject-specific notability guideline.
- A request for comment is open to discuss whether admins should be advised to warn users rather than issue no-warning blocks to those who have posted promotional content outside of article space.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.
- Following the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been elected to the Arbitration Committee: CaptainEek, Daniel, Elli, KrakatoaKatie, Liz, Primefac, ScottishFinnishRadish, Theleekycauldron, Worm That Turned.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in January 2025 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles and redirects in the new pages feed. Sign up here to participate!
2025 Cincinnati Bengals Season
Hello! It looks like you blanked and redirected the article 2025 Cincinnati Bengals Season. I understand you likely have your reasons but every NFL team besides the Bengals has a page for the 2025 season. If you truly believed it was better to blank and redirect you should have started a discussion on that page’s talk page before just deleting the page. This is considered best practice by Wikipedia which can be found in this article: Wikipedia:Redirect. Do you have the capability to retrieve and undelete the blanked article? No worries if not, it’s just a lot more work if I need to recreate the whole thing. Mjmeck25 (talk) 13:31, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry about that, it looks you did follow protocol and had a discussion. I didn’t see it though which is my fault. That said I still don’t agree that the page should have been deleted as every other NFL team has their 2025 page up and running and since the Bengals are playing next season they should have one too. Mjmeck25 (talk) 13:39, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- All good - It looks like this has already been resolved. On my end, I should have checked that the page had always existed as a redirect before doing the soft delete, which I'll make sure to do in the future. ThadeusOfNazereth(he/him)Talk to Me! 16:27, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Dipont Education

Hello, ThadeusOfNazereth. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "Dipont Education".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply and remove the {{db-afc}}
, {{db-draft}}
, or {{db-g13}}
code.
If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! DreamRimmer bot II (talk) 17:25, 29 January 2025 (UTC)

Possible FL
Would you have any interest in co-nominating List of Alaska ballot measures to FL? I ask as you are the top contributor to the page. I do not believe that it needs much more work before being able to be sent to FLC and am planning on doing it myself soon. Questions? four Olifanofmrtennant (she/her) 19:10, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I would be happy to! I am glad that somebody else is breathing life into those articles - At one point I had hoped to create one for each state, which obviously hasn't happened. This summer I hope to get back to it.
- The most important things I think will need to change in the article pre-nomination are the addition of a "Background" and a "Types of Ballot Measures" section, similar to what you see in List of Washington (state) ballot measures. I imagine those will be the first things pointed out at FL. ThadeusOfNazereth(he/him)Talk to Me! 21:34, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
- glad to hear it Questions? four Olifanofmrtennant (she/her) 03:07, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- Could you create the "types of ballot measures" section? I'll work on the "background" section Questions? four Olifanofmrtennant (she/her) 18:11, 11 March 2025 (UTC)
- I will work on this this weekend! ThadeusOfNazereth(he/him)Talk to Me! 18:15, 11 March 2025 (UTC)

Interface administrator changes
- Following an RfC, administrator elections were permanently authorized on a five-month schedule. The next election will be scheduled soon; see Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections for more information. This is an alternate process to the RfA process and does not replace the latter.
- An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in {{sticky decoration wrapper}}. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
- An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in May 2025 to reduce the backlog of articles in the new pages feed. Sign up here to participate!
