Happy holidays!

[edit]
A golden Wikipedia logo with stars, balloons, and the words "New Year" Happy holidays and a prosperous 2025!
Various color words. The first six words' colors correspond to the word itself; the next six do not.

I was skimming Psychology to find a good picture to put here, and then I got distracted by the illustration of the Stroop effect. Brains are so cool!

Mason, it has been a pleasure to work with you over this past year. Your dedication maintaining the plethora of category header templates, your responsiveness to requests to implement various discussions (regardless of how much work it might take to do them!), and your creativity in coming up with ways to repurpose categories are noticed and appreciated :) Thank you for everything this year, and here's to another productive year improving what could reasonably be called humanity's greatest collection of knowledge – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Wishing all the best to you and yours in 2025, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:21, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That is so thoughtful of you! Thank you so much for the kind words and appreciation!!!!! SMasonGarrison 03:35, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Women in psychology

[edit]

Hiya. Read your userpage. Do you mayhaps have ideas on how to improve the Women in psychology section on the Psychology article? I know very little about this topic. At some point some questionable additions were removed, which kinda left a gap. Would you be so kind to take a look? Thank you! Polygnotus (talk) 05:08, 3 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reaching out! I think that it's a good start. Maybe add in some more non-American psychologists? SMasonGarrison 23:17, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was kinda hoping you'd be willing to give it a try? I know very little and nothing about psychology. Thanks, Polygnotus (talk) 00:01, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You might try reaching out to some of the relevant WikiProjects, like Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red,Wikipedia:WikiProject Women Scientists. I don't have the bandwidth to do actual research to flesh out the article. SMasonGarrison 00:05, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Mason,

In case you haven't noticed, Lost in Quebec was recently indefinitely blocked as a sockpuppet of longtime blocked editor WilliamJE. A lot of their unused category creations were speedy deleted CSD G5'd yesterday, I'm not sure if you helped out on emptying them. Looking at their User talk page today, it looks like you had a fair share of run-ins with LIQ over the past year so I thought I'd leave you a note. If you see an editor with similar behavior in the future, you might consider reporting them at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/WilliamJE.

I don't think we've chatted lately so I just wanted to wish you a good summer! Liz Read! Talk! 22:40, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I'll definitely keep an eye out if LIQ/WJE pops back up. I did notice a day or so ago, but I mostly just restored categories to the status quo. Summer's going well! I hope your summer is going well as well! I'm putting together my tenure dossier for submission at the end of the summer, and I'm feeling good about it. :) SMasonGarrison 23:15, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Best of luck with your tenure dossier :) HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 00:09, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Viceroyalty of Peru was not part of New Spain

[edit]

The Viceroyalty of Peru was not part of New Spain. New Spain was a combination of various mainland areas, corresponding to Central America, Mexico and parts of the US today, the Spanish West Indies, the Spanish East Indies and maybe for a brief period what is now Colombia and Venezuela. The Viceroyalty of Peru was a seperate and distinct Spanish controlled area with a different government and not in any way, shape, means or form part of New Spain.John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:58, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question, please

[edit]

Hi there! I'm reaching out to you because I see you've previously edited a page I will be editing and I'm seeking just a bit of guidance. I have been asked to edit Helen Pickett's page by Ms. Pickett. She has given me updated information with all the proper citations. There are some items she would like removed and she also wishes to change the image in the infobox/person. The image is her property but I am not able to figure out how to upload it to the Wikipedia Commons. May you please advise? Thank you in advance for your help and kindness. - Jackie Jackiespina777 (talk) 00:49, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

So I occasionally get asked to edit pages by people connected to pages. In these cases, I encourage them to open an account and make a request on the talk page. If that feels too daunting, I'd suggest that they just post as an IP on the talk page. That way there's a record of the request. SMasonGarrison 00:52, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! And likewise! I hope so as well. For what it's worth, I think that this new RFA election process is a *much* less intimidating, and has the benefit of giving people a deadline. SMasonGarrison 01:14, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Elections | Instructions for candidates

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Instructions for candidates

Thank you for choosing to run in the July 2025 administrator elections. This bulletin contains some important information about the next stages of the election process.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • July 16–17: Housekeeping phase (we are here)
  • July 18–22: Discussion phase
  • July 23–29: SecurePoll voting phase
  • July 30–c. August 3: Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the Housekeeping phase. Your candidate subpage will remain closed to questions and discussion. However, this is an excellent opportunity for you to recruit nominators (if you want them) and have them place their nomination statements, and a good time for you to answer the standard three questions, if you have not done so already. We recommend you spend this phase getting your candidate page polished and ready for the next phase.

The discussion phase will take place from July 18–22. Your candidate subpage will open to the public and they will be permitted to discuss you and ask you formal questions, in the same style as a request for adminship (RfA). You are strongly encouraged to be around on those dates to answer the formal questions in a timely manner.

On July 23, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. Anyone can see who has voted, but not who they voted for. You are permitted and encouraged to vote in the election, including voting for yourself. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see your vote total during the election.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time. This phase took approximately four days during the October 2024 election, but could take up to a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, you must have received at least 70% support, calculated as support ÷ (support + oppose). Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("'crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation as a candidate, and best of luck.

You're receiving this message because you are a candidate in the July 2025 administrator elections.

Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

The discussion phase of the July 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • July 18–22 - Discussion phase (we are here)
  • July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • July 30–c. Aug 3 - Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Discussion phase.

On July 23, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last approximately four days, or perhaps a little longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

I'm certain many others feel the same way. I appreciate your putting yourself forward, answering questions (including mine) with candor, and demonstrating BOLD while still maintaining AGF. Administrator Elections | Voting phase

The voting phase of the July 2025 administrator elections has started and continues until July 29 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • July 23–29 – Voting phase
  • July 30–c. Aug 3 – Scrutineering phase

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for approximately four days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Congrats on the mop; you made it through. Enjoy mopping; user:Qwerfjkl/scripts/CFDlister is super helpful for closing discussions. The "list discussions" button posts to WT:CFDW rather than WP:CFDW, so you have to click "edit discussions" and copy/paste them manually into CFD. (It was designed that way because my dear friend Qwerfjkl has yet to turn this link blue.) If you need any help, let me know. You've got this—I am certain you will be fantastic.
