Researching or Citing Orphan Newspaper Reference

[edit]

I received an excerpt from a Mexican paper (photo cut out of the paper with the caption) that gives me the source I needed. It's a photo of the person who I wrote about with a caption that references the act of protest in her youth. This is the one area where I don't have a detailed source because she was a minor. Unfortunately, the source does not cite her by name (though the picture is clearly her compared to compaign photos at the same time and she is wearing a shirt for her father's presidential campaign). The caption lists her as "young juvenile...".

I've tried searching by the caption in spanish but did not get anywhere. This is complicated by the fact that it's from the 1980's and from another country in another language. Do you have any recommendations on how to get to the source? I have 5 potential papers to start researching from but none of their archives sort by caption. I'm assuing it can't be referenced if I can't locate the source but want to make sure. ArtSpaz (talk) 15:09, 11 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@ArtSpaz: Sorry for the late reply. I unfortunately don't have any recommendations, but once your account is 30 days old and has 500 edits, you can access The Wikipedia Library, which provides free access to paywalled resources like databases. ~ Rusty meow ~ 15:40, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the follow up. The Wikipedia library sounds like a good start. ArtSpaz (talk) 15:56, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Leeavemealone (12:15, 12 July 2025)

[edit]

When you do copyedit, how do you KNOW what needs to be changed --Leeavemealone (talk) 12:15, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Leeavemealone:
For me, I am an observant person, so I can spot errors in spelling and grammar easily.
With layout, for example, it's not exactly as easy, but I recommend you get an idea of what Wikipedia articles should look like by looking at many articles, especially Good Articles or Featured Articles, some of the highest-quality articles on Wikipedia.

[edit]

Can I put my bio on wikipedia so everyone knows me in future --Jhonerhey (talk) 12:36, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Writing an autobiography is not recommended. There is an inherent conflict of interest involved, which can make it difficult to write appropriately. Also, because this is a wiki, anyone would be free to add any reliably sourced content to the page, even things that may reflect poorly on you. Additionally, for your autobiography to remain, you must be what Wikipedia considers a notable person. Most people are not considered notable. You may wish to consider alternative outlets, such as social media platforms. For more information, you may want to look at this essay. However, if you are interested in editing about anything else, feel free to contribute. Best regards QwertyForest (talk) 15:36, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I'm Kesh:) I have a question, when someone edits, Do they need to inform to have no controversies? --ケシュラ・ミルマオ (talk) 03:27, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@ケシュラ・ミルマオ: Hello Kesh and welcome to the English Wikipedia!
If you believe that the change is not controversial, feel free to go ahead and make the edit. It's okay if discussion is raised later, because being bold is one of Wikipedia's guidelines.
For controversial changes, I'd recommend discussing the edit on the talk page if you're not sure.
By the way, I noticed your username is in Japanese. If you speak Japanese, I recommend that you check out the Japanese Wikipedia.
Happy editing! ~ Rusty meow ~ 15:56, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I'm not Japanese, I'm Filipino that's why I always edit 2025 Pacific typhoon season, By the way, if you edit something but it's actually wrong but no one noticed, could you still get banned even if someone didn't notice ケシュラ・ミルマオ (talk) 22:20, 23 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@ケシュラ・ミルマオ: No, you won't get blocked (our equivalent of being banned) if no one notices. Even if people do notice, they will understand if it's an accident, but you might be blocked if you intentionally add incorrect information, so please try your best. ~ Rusty meow ~ 09:22, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – August 2025

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2025).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
  • Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

  • Wikimania 2025 is happening in Nairobi, Kenya, and online from August 6 to August 9. This year marks 20 years of Wikimania. Interested users can join the online event. Registration for the virtual event is free and will remain open throughout Wikimania. You can register here now.

Question from ROCKY RANJAN (20:45, 7 August 2025)

hello ! just a formal greeting may be like ,first(ly) I would like to know where are You from and what do You do for living and How much do You earn in a month ~___$ and can i create m own topic like i want to write about something that feels illogical like What if i say there is nothing like matter do exist in this Universe because at the quantum level they are just vibrating quantum fields and string theory ! Quarks i know this feels like i also learnt from AI and Wikipedia and overall Internet but i want to write things like i want in my own way that even a 1111Days kid can understand !> --ROCKY RANJAN (talk) 20:45, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@ROCKY RANJAN:
Welcome to Wikipedia!
First of all, I prefer not to share too much information about myself, other than that I live in the United States and am a student.
Yes, you can create articles on Wikipedia, but I wouldn't recommend creating an article about how matter doesn't exist in the Universe. That would violate our policies and guidelines such as that Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought, and that all content must be verifiable.
If you want to contribute factual information to our physics articles, however, you are more than welcome to do that.
I recommend checking out the Introduction and Task Center to get an understanding of Wikipedia.
