Merge proposal: EA Sports FC and FIFA (video game series)
[edit]@Anlztrk, Klbrain, Qampunen, Angelo.romano, Bobo192, Oldelpaso, Stalfur, Angeldeb82, Alyo, Amnesiac radar, Shapeyness, and (Oinkers42): I am proposing the merger of EA Sports FC and FIFA. Both of the articles being unmerged might result in confusing Wikipedia users that have never heard of EA Sports FC 24 and beyond. FSlolhehe (talk) 17:35, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand your reasoning. Sergecross73 msg me 19:58, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- I personally do think that EA FC should be seen as the same series as FIFA, but not for that reason. 24 built off 23, etc. Tho Football Manager and Championship Manager have different pages and is the same situation I suppose, and has 2 different pages.Muur (talk) 21:21, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- @FSlolhehe: Per WP:SPLIT and WP:CONSISTENCY, EA Sports FC and FIFA should remain separate articles. Although EA Sports FC shares the same development team and engine as FIFA, the 2022 licensing split between EA Sports and FIFA created two distinct intellectual properties. EA no longer holds rights to the FIFA name, which the governing body intends to use for a separate game (reportedly FIFA 2K). Merging these articles would conflate two brands that are now legally and commercially independent. Readers seeking information on the upcoming FIFA-branded games would be misled into thinking they are part of EA’s lineage. This situation closely parallels Championship Manager and Football Manager, where a developer-publisher split resulted in two competing franchises and justified separate articles. Maintaining the split also aligns with WP:TITLE, as each series is identifiable by its distinct branding post-2022. A merger risks obscuring this distinction and confusing readers about the current and future state of the two. --Icem4k (talk) 07:01, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Icem4k:Alright, fine. Can I, at least, write something like "EA Sports FC, formerly called FIFA" and "FIFA, now called EA Sports FC"? I'd like to make clear that FIFA, although not by its name, is still ongoing as EA Sports FC. I'd like to help Wikipedia users that have never heard of EA Sports FC 24, 25, and 26, although I now understand merging isn't the solution. FSlolhehe (talk) 09:53, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- The article already currently reads: It serves as the direct successor to their former FIFA series, which was discontinued following the termination of EA and FIFA's licensing agreement, serving as a continuation of EA Sports' football simulation games. - Why isn't that enough? - Are you making these proposals without even reading the article? I just quoted the second sentence of the article... Sergecross73 msg me 19:58, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Meant to say I understand. Sorry FSlolhehe (talk) 20:01, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- I understood what you meant in that response. I just meant, the whole premise of this merge proposal seemed to be based on your fear of the reader being confused on something that was already pretty clearly explained in the article's second sentence. And that sentence was present in the article prior to you opening the discussion. Sergecross73 msg me 14:05, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
