Should we consider renaming "History of the Jews in X" to "Jewish history in X"?
[edit]I know it has been discussed before. The latter construction may be more modern and descriptive? Andređ 03:52, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- I was wondering about that recently actually. "the Jews" isnt really offensive, but it can sound offensive. This is potentially a good proposal. How are other groups treated in these case? As a noun or an adjective. Lebanese for example seem to be adjectives, but a lot of the history sections are in larger articles. eg Lebanese Brazilians Metallurgist (talk) 02:03, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- Last time it came up there was a fairly contentious discussion between @User:IZAK and @User:Zanahary.[1] I hope the dust has sufficiently settled and I'm not picking at healed old wound to inflame a dispute if perhaps they would be interested in offering their 2c on the merits of such a rename? FWIW, I am not proposing using the "Jews and/or Judaism in X" but rather "Jewish history in X," which preserves the same conceptual meaning without the potentially problematic construction of "the Jews" while obviously still being about the history of Jewish people and culture in that place. - History of the Jews in Madagascar was since thankfully moved unanimously to Judaism in Madagascar, a title that actually suits the articleâs content and the topicâs presentation in reliable sources. The lesson I learned from the previous fiasco is that the pursuit of consistent naming conventions for superficially similar (but not necessarily actually consistent) topics can easily conceal subtleties that should be revealed. The value of a group of encyclopedia articles having near-identical titles is, in my view, basically zero, and should never be a factor to compromise with the goal of precisely representing a topic in accordance with reliable sources. All this to say: the wording favored in this proposed group move would be too meaningful a change (âhistory of the Jewsâ â âJewish historyâ) for me to support a mass move. Articles should be considered case-by-case based on an examination of reliable secondary sourcesânot moved according to a consistent style. If it can be demonstrated that âJewish history in Xâ is a more accurate and precise construction for each of the articles in question, then Iâd gladly support those proposals. ę§Zanaharyę§ 00:07, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- And speaking generally, Iâd bet that some of these history articles could be more concisely represented under the title âJews in Xâ. Historical material would obviously still belong, and the title would still accurately convey the content. An article I wrote, Lace tells, is all historical, but thereâs no need to name it âHistory of lace tellsâ. ę§Zanaharyę§ 00:12, 10 July 2025 (UTC)

Babyn Yar POV pushing/ undue weight
[edit]Undue weight has been given to the claim/ theory that 62 OUN-M members were killed at the site in that credible academics who contest this theory have been entirely omitted, among them Per Anders Rudling. I expanded on this in the article's talk page though it doesn't appear to be very active. 2A00:23C5:11E:F901:CF9:243F:3265:BAD8 (talk) 13:52, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

I'd like to see the article run on the main page as TFA for 2029 for the 100th anniversary of her birth. The article is mostly in good shape, but it'd be nice if more eyes would go over it and give it a copy edit and some tweaks. There's a few questions on the talk page about formatting as well. Given the time frame, this isn't a pressing issue and you can take your time on it. It's already gone through a copy-edit with the Guild of Copy-editors once. I recently found that the article about the concentration camp Risiera di San Sabba was a neglected stub. I translated the Italian version of the article and tagged more relevant wikiprojects so it hopefully won't be quite so neglected going forward. I however feel like I lack the experience and expertise to adequately handle articles on this topic, so I would appreciate it if someone would give the article a once-over to check that the language and content are suitable and to ensure it has the right protections if they are needed.
