Music video to "Loving You Easy"
[edit]I have added a music video to "Loving You Easy" and am unable to understand why a stray character appears.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 12:15, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

Sound file vandal
[edit]A user who has now been blocked a second time has been replacing the sound sample in the article for "True" with a garbled version. They've also done it to the sound file in "Dirty Laundry". The first time it happened I was able to revert the "True" file, but this time I get a message that says:
The edit appears to have already been undone. You may have attempted to undo a page move, protection action or import action; these cannot be undone this way. Any autoconfirmed user can move the page back to its previous location, and any administrator can modify or remove protection.
Does anyone know how this can be addressed? Thanks! Danaphile (talk) 20:27, 26 June 2025 (UTC)
- The "True" sound file has been restored. Danaphile (talk) 00:44, 27 June 2025 (UTC)

Titling of articles on cover songs
[edit]Hi all, I recently closed a Requested Move at Talk:Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now) (Mariah Carey recording), where my read of the discussion was that there was a consensus (though not unanimous agreement) that—because the song is a cover version (original here)—"recording" was preferable to "song" as a disambiguator. I Will Always Love You (Whitney Houston recording) was also named as an example of this scenario. The argument seems plausible to me, but I wanted to solicit some other opinions as well to see how widespread this viewpoint is. In particular, there are two questions I'm hoping to shed some light on:
- Are there other examples of "recording" being used as a disambiguator in similar scenarios?
- If this titling practice is widely supported, should we enshrine it into the language at WP:COVERSONG and/or WP:NCMUSIC? ModernDayTrilobite (talk • contribs) 16:06, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- I disagreed with the use of (recording) at Talk:Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now) (Mariah Carey recording), and I strongly disagree with its addition to WP:SONGDAB. Cover songs which are independently notable and have their own article should use the same naming convention as other songs. 162 etc. (talk) 16:21, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- The use of "recording" in the title of these split articles is based on the original example of The Star Spangled Banner (Whitney Houston recording). Would anyone really say that the US national anthem is a Whitney Houston song? No, so "recording" is more appropriate as it is the singer's interpretation of the lyrics and composition. As for covers of pop songs, I guess the argument is a little weaker, but I guess it's better to be consistent with all articles about cover versions. Heartfox (talk) 16:36, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- I'd argue that Whitney Houston Super Bowl XXV national anthem performance more accurately describes what that article is about. 162 etc. (talk) 19:12, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- Reading the above, I guess the title of Night and Day (Dawn Penn song) should be changed. I have little or no experience doing this. AwerDiWeGo (talk) 16:47, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- That one did not appear to meet WP:NCOVER; I've merged the article. 162 etc. (talk) 22:41, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- I don't exactly have an opinion on this, but a consensus regarding title standards would be nice as I soon plan on spinning out at least one song cover into it's own article separate from the original song and I'd like to know what it should be titled. λ NegativeMP1 23:41, 30 June 2025 (UTC)

Verbatim title
[edit]Is the use of this new template something that we want to encourage for this project? See Come Together as an example. If so, there should be a way to build it into the infobox. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 23:40, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
- No, because it is not the title of the song. See "Heroes" (David Bowie song), which is indeed titled "'Heroes'" as Bowie explains that anyone can become a 'hero', at least for one day. I don't know why @HumanxAnthro: keeps adding it without explaination or consensus since this has to be managed by the infobox and not on random pages. (CC) Tbhotch™ 23:45, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
- facepalm God damn it, guys, no titles are being changed just by adding quotes to them. I am just adding a template formatting song titles as we do in the prose per MOS. It is no different from italicizing the titles of albums in the names of articles about them with Template:Italic title, which we have a template for and consensus has allowed forever. We didn't use to do this because it was technologically impossible to enter quote marks in the title of the article for most of this site's history. However, it has become possible to do this (I don't know when, but I noticed a few days ago that it did), and a template was created to adjust to this new possibility. User:HumanxAnthro (BanjoxKazooie) 20:04, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- So please, can you just leave me the heck alone and let me edit in peace? User:HumanxAnthro (BanjoxKazooie) 20:07, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- For Heroes, the solution is to add Apostrophes between Heroes for the article title, and have the verbatim title template within the code. That is how it is in the article lead, with a note clarifying why it is there. User:HumanxAnthro (BanjoxKazooie) 20:10, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- There's a substantive difference between italics and quotation marks here, in that adding quotation marks would introduce entirely new characters to the title—making it so the displayed page title differs from the page's "real" title. See also the policy at Wikipedia:Article titles#Do not enclose titles in quotes. ModernDayTrilobite (talk • contribs) 21:20, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- Holy crap! That is a policy? OMG, I'm so, SOOOOOO sorry! I had no idea they already had a policy for this! I just thought it was users not being aware you could put quote characters in syntax. I swear to god I'll stop making these edits, then User:HumanxAnthro (BanjoxKazooie) 22:11, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- Also, Tb, you should've done what ModernDayTribalite was easily able to do. User:HumanxAnthro (BanjoxKazooie) 22:15, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- Although, that section says this "Although titles that are quotes are not enclosed in quotation marks, they can be presented as if they were enclosed in quotation marks via Verbatim title or (when in a different language) Italic verbatim title – e.g. La conquista la hicieron los indios y la independencia los españoles." User:HumanxAnthro (BanjoxKazooie) 22:26, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- Also, to address the italics, italic versions of Arabic letters are different characters from non-italicized version, so objectively there wouldn't be a difference. User:HumanxAnthro (BanjoxKazooie) 22:27, 4 July 2025 (UTC)

Template:Kanye West songs is too long
[edit]Hey guys, the template is too long and, as a result, the final 3 parameters are not visible. Any thoughts on how to go about this issue? I've heard a suggestion of separate navboxes for his albums. Maybe separating singles and songs (so 2 navboxes), however, I'm not sure if this will fix the issue since it seems like the number of groups is the problem, not the amount of elements in each group. Thoughts? jolielover♥talk 12:09, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
- Make templates for individual albums. There, problem solved. User:HumanxAnthro (BanjoxKazooie) 14:48, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
