Help need with draft

Currently working on Draft:List of Ministry of Public Security police officers killed in the line of duty, I need help on two things:

Can you cross check to make sure the statistics are accurate? I suspect I probably may have messed up the provinces part and got wrong by 1-2 people.
Can someone who understands Uyghur, Yi, Tibetan, Mongolian, Kazakh or Uzbek make sure my transliterations are correct and add the native name of the officers? I am pretty sure I messed up some, if not most of the transliterations(which I mostly either copied from the tibetan name article and chinese wikipedia article on uyghur names, used google translate or just downright wrote pinyin instead)

Did you count the number from each province yourself after creating the list? If you don't have a reliable source that lists the number for each province, I would remove it, since this is basically original research. How do we know that the list isn't missing anyone?
I don't think it's possible for even a native speaker to do a better transliteration when the sources don't give the name in the original script. Cases like "Abdulqadir" are obvious, but some are ambiguous and there's nothing you can do – for instance, I am pretty certain that "Abdulqimu" is wrong, since I don't get any search results for it. In such cases, I recommend sticking to straight Pinyin. Toadspike [Talk] 14:22, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Toadspike Thing is, the count is exactly to make sure we are not missing anyone, and that if we do we point it out. Everytime I add a new instance to the list, I update the count. The list will almost certainly not be complete, however since we have reliable sources on the total count per province, we can see how many people we are missing(finding them will absolutely not be fun though) Thehistorianisaac (talk) 14:53, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Possible infobox of chinese protected historical sites?

I'm genuinely surprised that this infobox for chinese protected historical sites(can be used for National level sites, Provincial level sites and municipal level sites) does not exist on english wikipedia. Can somebody add this infobox to english wikipedia, as this could significantly improve coverage of Chinese historical sites? Thehistorianisaac (talk) 00:35, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps this could be added to TM:Infobox historic site. If you look at Temple of Heaven, you can see that it already has functionality for UNESCO World Heritage Sites. I would prefer this method, having only one infobox, instead of making a new one and having to use multiple infoboxes in one article if it is both a Chinese protected site and a UNESCO site, for instance.

Is it necessary to add Chinese script in these two articles?

@Babaibiaobin The drug policy article looks fine, so I have removed that tag. Music of Tibet had an inline tag (csni in the source editor) for a band's name, which I have resolved [1].

By the way, it would be great if you used the template TM:lang-zh when adding Chinese instead of simply adding raw text – this helps people using screenreaders and keeps formatting consistent. See this edit for an example. Toadspike [Talk] 21:38, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Shelterbelt destruction at Yangguan Forest Farm: new, needs help

Hello. I recently discovered Shelterbelt destruction at Yangguan Forest Farm, a new article translated from zh:阳关林场风波 by a student editor as part of their university course on a very interesting topic. It has all sorts of issues, and needs work; possibly a rewrite, or at least, a reorg. Dclemens1971 has tagged a few issues at the top, and I have done some stylistic and linkage improvements, but I don't know Chinese, so there is a limit as to how far I can go. The translation was very literal, and retains the original section organization of the original, and is not at all how we would organize an article here; the section titles sound very 'translated' and probably need to be entirely redone, and so do the citations. I did a web search, and it turns out that there actually *are* some English sources on this topic, and they should be used wherever possible. I hope someone can take this article further, and integrate it into English Wikipedia as it seems very worthy of a good write-up. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 18:51, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Town Naming Conventions

I was cleaning up some Township-level division pages in Beijing, and ended up moving a fair few pages that were 'X, Beijing' to 'X Town'(see Yanshou Town for example) - owing to the fact that a) this is their official name, and is referenced throughout the articles themselves, & b) we use this convention for other divisions at the same level, such as subdistrics (see Dahongmen Subdistrict) and townships (see Nanjiao Township). The 'X, Beijing' form is used for the District level, one step higher than the township-level (see Fengtai, Beijing).

I hadn't clicked on that this might be controversial, as the first Town I dealt with was Beigong Town which *did* already use the 'town' name in the article name. However, as time went on, I realized that the majority of towns I came across used the 'X, Beijing' form (see Yongding, Beijing for example).

I figured I'd better wait and see before I make any more changes to see if there is an established consensus here before I continue. If the consensus is that they should follow the 'X, Beijing' form, I'll move the pages I've already worked on back.

Such change would be unnecessary in my opinion. Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese) states "Articles for provinces and cities may leave out the class name, e.g. Liaobei or Beijing". Cities and towns are similar enough to get the same treatment in this case.

Later in the same article it also says "'Town' must be used if the name of the town co-exists with subdistricts or townships of the same name in the same county-level division, i.e. if the town of XX and XX Township both exist in XY District. Otherwise, 'Town' may be used only when: A) The parent division is a district, county-level city or prefecture-level city, i.e. [[Jiangzhou Town]] in Jiangzhou District and B) Apart from the town and its parent(s), no other settlements exist." So "Town" classifier is only required in order to differentiate from another place with a different classification in the same administrative division.

I looked up English articles written by some official Chinese media on how they handle this kind of issue. For place names like "Ligezhuang", which can refer to the town in Jiaozhou or several villages, the "town" designation is used (seen in here and here). Whereas a place name like "Zhouzhuang", which can also be a village name but mostly used to refer to the notable town in Jiangsu, the "town" designation is not used (as seen here and here). It seems that in official usage, "town" is to be avoided unless it is necessary to clarify which place is been referred to. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 22:48, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Romanization of Taiwanese names

Based on my impression of the majority of articles I see, I think using Tsai instead of Cai, or Hsu instead of Xu, for instance, would be least likely to stick out. Which is to say, a sort of Wade–Giles that omits diacritics. Formally and prescriptively, I don't think we have a conclusive rule on this, and would rather not try to make one. I think, descriptively, Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese)#People is more or less right about the issues that it mentions, although it doesn't exactly answer your question.
