Part of the Italian translation is this, although it needs to be double-checked:
A diciotto lavorò a Londra.
Fu anche giudice in reality show televisivi come Bake Off Italia.
JacktheBrown (talk) 18:47, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
Thank you so much, Jack! I didn't actually intend you to do an entire translation, more just do a copyedit of the Italian machine translation, this represents so much more than I intended to ask for. I've added the article at it.wiki at Gabriel Bonci. Valereee (talk) 13:10, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
You're welcome, it was a pleasure. The translation is literal, so some phrases lack of, I don't know how to explain it, "liveliness". Note: there's a small mistake you made when you pasted the translation (which isn't present here): "Nel 2003 ha aperto Pizzarium Bonci vicinovicino" (there are two "vicino"). JacktheBrown (talk) 13:23, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
Got it, thanks! I've fixed.
I understand what you are saying about lacking liveliness. In English, we might say 'the prose is flat'? That's no problem, I'm sure someone on it.wiki will eventually come along and make it sing. Valereee (talk) 13:39, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
Happy Holidays
Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialogue, people's rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension.★Trekker (talk) 08:29, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
Merry Christmas, Valereee! Or Season's Greetings or Happy Winter Solstice! As the year winds to a close, I would like to take a moment to recognize your hard work and offer heartfelt gratitude for all you do for Wikipedia. May this Holiday Season bring you nothing but joy, health and prosperity. Onel5969TT me23:14, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
When he took up his hat to go, he gave one long look round the library. Then he turned ... (and Saxon took advantage of this to wag his way in and join the party), and said, "It's a rare privilege, the free entry of a book chamber like this. I'm hoping ... that you are not insensible of it."

Hello Valereee, may you be surrounded by peace, success and happiness on this seasonal occasion. Spread the WikiLove by wishing another user a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past, a good friend, or just some random person. Sending you heartfelt and warm greetings for Christmas and New Year 2025. Happy editing, Abishe (talk) 23:57, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
Hello everyone, and welcome to the 26th issue of the Wikipedia Scripts++ Newsletter, covering all our favorite new and updated user scripts since 1 August 2024. At press time, over 94% of the world has legally fallen prey to the merry celebrations of "Christmas", and so shall you soon. It's been a quiet 4 months, and we hope to see you with way more new scripts next year. Happy holidays! Aaron Liu (talk) 05:06, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
Got anything good? Tell us about your new, improved, old, or messed-up script here!
Featured script
Very useful for changelist patrollers, DiffUndo, by Nardog, is this edition's featured script. Taking inspiration from WP:AutoWikiBrowser's double-click-to-undo feature, it adds an undo button to every line of every diff from "show changes", optimizing partial reverts with your favorite magic spell and nearly fulfilling m:Community Wishlist/Wishes/Partial revert undo.
Miscellaneous
Doğu/Adiutor, a recent WP:Twinkle/WP:RedWarn-like userscript that follows modern WMF UI design, is now an extension. However, its sole maintainer has left the project, which still awaits WMF mw:code stewardship (among some audits) to be installed on your favorite WMF wikis.
DannyS712, our former chief editor, has ascended to MediaWiki and the greener purpley pastures of PHP with commits creating Special:NamespaceInfo and the __EXPECTUNUSEDTEMPLATE__ magic word to exclude a template from Special:UnusedTemplates! I wonder if Wikipedia has a templaters' newsletter...
BilledMammal/Move+ needs updating to order list of pages handle lists of pages to move correctly regardless of the discussion's page, so that we may avoid repeating fiasco history.
Andrybak/Unsigned helper forks Anomie/unsignedhelper to add support for binary search, automatic edit summaries after generating the {{unsigned}} template, support for {{undated}}, and support for generating while syntax highlighting is on.
Polygnotus/Move+ updates BilledMammal's classic Move+ to add automattic watchlisting of all pages—except the target page(s)—changed while processing a move.
Hi Valereee, Merry Christmas! What about to create an article on the former Empress Theatre on 814 Vine Street, Cincinnati. What I found as an information here is controversial, but I hope you may have more info. My data is the following:
Built in 1846 as a Presbyterian Church, it later became the Vine Street Congregational Church. The New Empress Theatre was opened December 27, 1909 presenting vaudeville, burlesque and by 1912 film were also part of the program. By 1917 films were the major part of the program. It seated 300 and closed in 1929. On March 12, 1937 it was renamed Gayety Theatre featuring burlesque and movies. The site is now an office building.
Hey, Jingiby! Merry Christmas to you, too! Hm...I hadn't thought about whether that building might be notable, but yeah, it's possible. I probably won't have time today or tomorrow to do any research, have houseguests in and more expected, but I'll take a look once things get back to normal here! Valereee (talk) 00:31, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
I respect your judgement in the enforcement discussion. Please consider my request of not being blocked.
1)The enforcement was for editwarring, which I improved and there is rarely any case of me edit warring (now, I first discuss issues on article talk pages)
2) I corrected my mistake of not replying in my own statement section as pointed out by you, which shows my readiness to improve myself once corrected by other experienced editors.
3) I corrected my mistake of not adding tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of my comments, as pointed out by @Toddy1 in my talk page. This again shows my willingness to improve.
4) I was labelled as using Raj era sources, but I have in many instances created/edited and expanded contentious articles where my inputs were appreciated. Just as an example, my edits on Baji Rao II were appreciated by @Revirvlkodlaku.
5)As mentioned in the enforcement that I was blocked for editwarring previously, but if seen thoroughly, that was due to sockpuppets. At that time, I did not know that it's Important to get the sock blocked first through an SPI. I corrected my mistake by not editwarring @私は日本が大好きです and getting him blocked first.
6)@Vanamonde93 @Bishonen. I accept, I must have done some mistakes for admins to consider blocking me. I could have annoyed you by not replying in my own section. But please do not block me, I will contribute to the space in good faith. I will keep getting better and better.
@PerspicazHistorian, no one would block you for not replying in your own section or not using tildes to sign. These are simply additional examples of the fact you don't seem very motivated to learn how we do things here on Wikipedia. The much bigger problem is things like apparently not understanding what represents a reliable source, and then of course the edit warring over that, which as you point out is what got you to AE. If you hadn't been doing that in a contentious topic, people would likely be much more patient with you not working very hard to learn policy. Valereee (talk) 11:23, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
But I promise, like I have not engaged in any edit war recently, I will only add reliable sources and always discuss reliability on talk pages. PPicazHist (talk) 12:49, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!
Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.
For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.
Hi Valereee, thanks for the direction. I am originally from Taiwan. I actually moved here in 2010. I will provide three (only that many) significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of me. Do they have to be in English? If other language is acceptable, will Chinese be okay? Allpeoplearepeopleofcolor (talk) 18:31, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
Allpeoplearepeopleofcolor, Wikipedia is a worldwide project, so the concept of a "foreign country" does not really exist in regards to English Wikipedia editing. English language sources are preferred when available, but sources in any language are allowed. Please be aware that writing a successful autobiography is exceptionally difficult and the vast majority of people who try do not succeed, especially inexperienced editors. Our standards are very high. Cullen328 (talk) 18:40, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
Valereee, Sorry for the late reply as I am recovering from a cold. I have begun to re-discover myself. It may take a while before I can deliver the three resources over for your evaluation. As for how to deliver, are there any other ways besides links? Wish you a wonderful new year ahead, and thank you for your advices! Allpeoplearepeopleofcolor (talk) 18:48, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
Sure, it doesn't need to be accessible via the net. If it's in English, you can take a photo of it and email it to me. Valereee (talk) 18:55, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
Velereee, can I ask you more questions so that I can get a full picture of what kinds of three sources I can submit to meet your criteria; for example, if someone's name can be found on the net, not just once, can that web page link count? Also, if someone's profile is being recognized and published on their industry sites of credibility and history, can it be seen as a reliable resource independent of that said individual? I think that my questions that were being answered or await answers down the line will only guide me in the exactly right direction in submitting my three resources without ultimately wasting your precious time and energy. Thank you. Allpeoplearepeopleofcolor (talk) 20:56, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
2025 Update from Women in Green
Hello Valereee:
2024 has wrapped up, and what a full year it was for WikiProject Women in Green! Over the past year, we hosted two edit-a-thons, one themed around women's history and another on women around the world. We also managed to achieve most of our 2024 annual goals, nominating 75 articles for GA, reviewing 64 GA nominations, nominating 8 articles for FAC, peer reviewing 3 articles and reviewing 10 FAC nominations. Excellent work, and thank you to everyone involved!
For 2025 we have a new set of goals for nominations and reviews. In particular, we would like to see more articles on our Hot 100 list being improved and nominated for GA this year. If you take a look at the list and see an article you are interested in contributing to, feel free to add it and yourself to our Hot 100 project discussion. You might even find someone interested in collaborating with you!
This year, as with every year, we hope you will join us in helping improve our coverage of women and women's works on this encyclopedia. Every contribution helps. We'll see you around!
Hi Valereee. On following your guidelines, I'm sort of struggling when editors respond to me like this here. I do not think this is a thing I should respond to as I wasn't addressed directly, but as editors are commenting on perceived notions instead of the content I've brought up, I'm not sure what is valid here. When you have a moment, please advise. Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:54, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
I'd let it go and let others respond, or not. Absent a ping to request clarification, you've made your point. This is the problem with this type of editing restriction. Valereee (talk) 12:32, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for the kind words, but other than EC-protection, which I see has already happened, what's needed there is attention from editors, not admins. This isn't an area I work in as an editor. Valereee (talk) 12:37, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
A request for comment is open to discuss whether admins should be advised to warn users rather than issue no-warning blocks to those who have posted promotional content outside of article space.
Technical news
The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.
Hi, would you like to help me create this page in en.wiki? I would take care of the complete translation as well as the images and related captions, and if you want you could take care of the more technical part (formatting, etc.). Thanks in advance. JacktheBrown (talk) 18:35, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
hahaha...yes, that's just what I need to support my goal of a quiet life of research and writing about any random thing (which is basically everything) that piques my interest and holds it for long enough for me to write an article: someone who can take over the camera on my laptop and flash images of my face to...who even are these people?
The Heritage Foundation v Wikipedia. Sigh. If someone starts it, LMK. If I decide to -- you never know, the bees in my bonnet have been stirred up by less -- I'll LYK. Valereee (talk) 19:08, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
To be fair 48 minutes probably is an unusually long time for getting BLP vandalism reverted. Even on Xmas Day. :D But 8 years is an unusually long time to be holding a grudge about it, too. :D Valereee (talk) 13:58, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
Hi Valereee. I apologize, but if the user themselves is misquoting me or at least misunderstanding my sentence, which I think I was relatively clear, I'm not sure what to do in terms of response. This is not an isolated incidents (see below), so I feel the need to bring it an admins attention.
On discussion with the editor: here: I proposed that " it might be a bit above and beyond to suggest that [the Facebook group] sharing slightly memetic content as serious discussion about [the content]." while saying that a post from facebook could be used as WP:SELFSOURCE, this content would not satisfy as any serious discussion on the topic.
The editor here. said this in reference to my comment. "As you pointed out this is a terrific example of WP:SELFSOURCE". I suggested the opposite.
Other users have had similar experiences such as "koavf": here asking about edits to a table as they hindered accessibility purposes. Their response was they did not remove anything, seemingly again misinterpreting the claim here. "koavf", from this edit equally confused that the editor did not understand their actions.
From my experiences with trying to respond, I'm not sure the editor understands or is open to taking understanding general wiki policy, even when continuously presented to them. I wasn't sure to bring this up as a dispute edit or anything, but as you are familiar and had experience, I figured I'd ask you. Andrzejbanas (talk) 22:45, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
The sentence "While I do think Universal sharing this content is fun and keeps the spirits of these films alive, it might be a bit above and beyond to suggest that them sharing slightly memetic content as serious discussion about them" is just puzzling. Are you trying to say, "We don't use self-sources for anything except noncontroversial facts."? If so, say it. Briefly and clearly. I'm kind of not surprised they didn't understand what you were getting at.
That said, if the inclusion of these films in the franchise is truly controversial, surely there are RS saying exactly that: "The inclusion of film X in franchise Y is considered controversial by cinephiles". Because if Universal is treating them as part of the franchise, and no RS are calling it controversial to include them, is it really controversial? Valereee (talk) 14:33, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
Fair on that. I was generally trying to come off as friendly or not sound like I'm dismissing the content provided as I'm just trying to come off as approachable or friendly to discuss. Regardless, my statement is still being misinterpreted as saying it was an "excellent example of the source", even thought I was not tagged, is it okay with you to reply to say they are misunderstanding my statement. I have found several sources, both via journalists and academic research, that give different scopes for the franchise. To be short, this is not a cut and dry franchise with an easy to define narrative connection, as the branding of it only existed decades after the films were made. You can see my five sources I've quoted here. By doing this, I am trying to apply WP:BALANCE and WP:SOURCETYPES. Andrzejbanas (talk) 19:13, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
Unfortunately, no, probably not okay. Under this editing restriction it's pretty much your responsibility to make sure you are clear the first time, and that takes some work. I'd worry less about sounding friendly and more about being very clear the first time. Valereee (talk) 20:03, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
Fair enough. One last question, I've asked a few times if I'm applying rules correctly about when I state them, and these questions about the content. As you discussed the content with me, I'd like to clarify with you if I am misunderstanding them. If you could verify it, it would make me feel confident in any direction I'm trying to go with this or other work. Andrzejbanas (talk) 20:24, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
Sorry, not sure which rules you mean? If you can restate here your understanding of whatever it is you're asking whether you're applying correctly? Valereee (talk) 21:23, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
No worries, I'll try again. Per WP:BALANCE and WP:SOURCETYPES, the first states "Neutrality assigns weight to viewpoints in proportion to their prominence in reliable sources. However, when reputable sources contradict one another and are relatively equal in prominence, describe both points of view and work for balance." The second states states "When available, academic and peer-reviewed publications, scholarly monographs, and textbooks are usually the most reliable sources." My understanding from these generally is one finds academic sources (i.e: from academic journals etc.) try to focus on drawing from these kinds of sources and for the balance rule, if the sources are both state different conclusions, try to find a right balance to display them with equal weight. I'll admit I'm not the best writer, so I hope what I'm asking is more clear. :) Andrzejbanas (talk) 22:40, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

Weekly highlight
The Single User Login system is being updated over the next few months. This is the system which allows users to fill out the login form on one Wikimedia site and get logged in on all others at the same time. It needs to be updated because of the ways that browsers are increasingly restricting cross-domain cookies. To accommodate these restrictions, login and account creation pages will move to a central domain, but it will still appear to the user as if they are on the originating wiki. The updated code will be enabled this week for users on test wikis. This change is planned to roll out to all users during February and March. See the SUL3 project page for more details and a timeline.
Updates for editors
On wikis with PageAssessments installed, you can now filter search results to pages in a given WikiProject by using the inproject: keyword. (These wikis: Arabic Wikipedia, English Wikipedia, English Wikivoyage, French Wikipedia, Hungarian Wikipedia, Nepali Wikipedia, Turkish Wikipedia, Chinese Wikipedia) [1]
One new wiki has been created: a Wikipedia in Tigre (w:tig:) [2]
View all 35 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, there was a bug with updating a user's edit-count after making a rollback edit, which is now fixed. [3]
Updates for technical contributors
Wikimedia REST API users, such as bot operators and tool maintainers, may be affected by ongoing upgrades. Starting the week of January 13, we will begin rerouting some page content endpoints from RESTbase to the newer MediaWiki REST API endpoints for all wiki projects. This change was previously available on testwiki and should not affect existing functionality, but active users of the impacted endpoints may raise issues directly to the MediaWiki Interfaces Team in Phabricator if they arise.
Toolforge tool maintainers can now share their feedback on Toolforge UI, an initiative to provide a web platform that allows creating and managing Toolforge tools through a graphic interface, in addition to existing command-line workflows. This project aims to streamline active maintainers’ tasks, as well as make registration and deployment processes more accessible for new tool creators. The initiative is still at a very early stage, and the Cloud Services team is in the process of collecting feedback from the Toolforge community to help shape the solution to their needs. Read more and share your thoughts about Toolforge UI.
For tool and library developers who use the OAuth system: The identity endpoint used for OAuth 1 and OAuth 2 returned a JSON object with an integer in its sub field, which was incorrect (the field must always be a string). This has been fixed; the fix will be deployed to Wikimedia wikis on the week of January 13. [4]
Many wikis currently use Cite CSS to render custom footnote markers in Parsoid output. Starting January 20 these rules will be disabled, but the developers ask you to not clean up your MediaWiki:Common.css until February 20 to avoid issues during the migration. Your wikis might experience some small changes to footnote markers in Visual Editor and when using experimental Parsoid read mode, but if there are changes these are expected to bring the rendering in line with the legacy parser output.
