Doctor Who newsletter

[edit]

Hello. I'm interested in contributing to the newsletter. Spectritus (talk) 20:57, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Spectritus: Perfect, we'll be glad to have you. Pokelego999 and I have been writing it lately, so we'll definitely be glad to have the help! We typically publish once every three months, although this issue was a little delayed because our other previous contributors backed out. That said, we're looking to get our next issue out sometime in June and planning will likely start in mid-May. I'll make sure to drop you a nonfiction via ping or on your talk page when that time comes around. TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:06, 12 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thanks. Spectritus (talk) 09:09, 12 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have another article up for FL review if you have a few free minutes. You're probably a skating expert at this point! 🙂 Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:51, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, I'll check it out sometime in the next few days!!! TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:40, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello... I am also working on Canadian National Skating Championships. If you have a chance, can you take a look at the History section? I'm not asking for a full analysis or anything like that, but I have been struggling with writing this section, especially regarding the chronology of events. If you can let me know how it reads or if there might be a better way to organize it, that would be super awesome! Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:31, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Bgsu98: Sure! I just got around to leaving comments on the British FLC, which I've been putting off for a minute. Give me another day or two and I'll look over the Canadian list! TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:06, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Bgsu98: I'll have to offer my sincerest apologies, I clearly and very frequently overestimate the time I have available. I've just gotten a chance to read over the history section on the Canadian article. I think it would read a lot better if the first two paragraphs were merged to flow chronologically a bit better. It's a little disorienting when we jump from 1905 > (1897) > 1913 > 1907 > 1887 > 1914 > 1905. I think it would be easier to keep track if it started with the background of the Amateur Skating Association as a lead into Minto, and then finally Skate Canada (if I have that in order), and of course with the relevant details about women's additions/competition changes/etc. interspersed. The same could be said for the last paragraph; the first sentence could be merged into the preceding paragraph while the following could be shifted up chronologically (and just slightly reworded) TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:39, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That whole section has been maddening. Let me know how you think it looks now. Canadian National Skating Championships#History Bgsu98 (Talk) 05:54, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Bgsu98: It reads so much better to me now than it did before! After giving it another read through in its current state, I only had one portion that led to some slight confusion: "The championships were cancelled in 1907 after the Rideau Skating Rink was destroyed by a fire. While separate competitions for men and women were not held until 1913, an award was presented to the "top lady skater" at each competition prior to 1913. A separate governing organization for figure skating in Canada was established in 1914 [...]" When I first read this, I thought it implied that there were no competitions between 1907 and 1914, and only realized that it was just for that single year, after glancing at one of the tables. What about just rewording that one portion similar to one of the methods you use further down, either: "No 1907 championships were held after [...]" or "After the Rideau Skating Rink was destroyed in a fire, no 1907 championships were held"? Just provides less chance that it's misinterpreted as a permanent cancellation and provides slight variation so it's not an exact repeat of the World War/COVID cancellations. TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:28, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can see why that might be confusing. I'll take another look at it later. This will be the next national championship article to go up for FL nomination as soon as one of the pending nominations goes through. Bgsu98 (Talk) 12:11, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2025 May newsletter

[edit]

The second round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 28 April at 23:59 UTC. To reiterate what we said in the previous newsletter, we are no longer disqualifying contestants based on how many points (now known as round points) they received. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. These tournament points are carried over between rounds, and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers at the end of each round. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned.

Round 2 was quite competitive. Four contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and eight scored more than 500 points (including one who has withdrawn). The following competitors scored at least 800 points:

In addition, we would like to recognize Generalissima (submissions) for her efforts; she scored 801 round points but withdrew before the end of the round.

The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 13 featured articles, 20 featured lists, 4 featured-topic articles, 138 good articles, 7 good-topic articles, and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 19 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 300 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Doctor Who FL?

[edit]

Would you have any interest in improving the David Tennant (or any Doctor Who actor) filmography to FLC? Olliefant (she/her) 18:02, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@OlifanofmrTennant: I'd love to! Tennant seems like a great place to start honestly. While there's some unsourced content, it's not in the worst shape, and shouldn't be too hard to fix up! TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:41, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reviews

[edit]

I was coming to your talk page to see if you participated at the Good Article project too and then I saw the icons strung across the top of your user page like Christmas garland. Anyway, I have recently submitted this article – 2022 CS U.S. International Figure Skating Classic – to GA (among others). It's a pretty simple article, but I think it has a great hook because it's the competition where Ilia Malinin first performed his Quadruple Axel, and he is literally the only person on Earth who can perform one. If you have the time and wouldn't mind taking a look, I'd appreciate it. Also, I have another FS article up at FL, too. It's Grand Prix de France (figure skating). Thanks! Hello again. I hope you are doing well and having a good day so far. Apologies for the random message. [edit]

On 17 May 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Robot Revolution, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the robotic costumes used in the Doctor Who episode "The Robot Revolution" were 3D printed in thirty-four different pieces before being assembled? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The Robot Revolution. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, The Robot Revolution), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

My Name Is Earl

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you cleaned up the references and endnote on My Name Is Earl, that had the same name, but supposedly different content. My intention here was to define the endnote content on each season page so that it would transclude into the list of episodes page in as one note (the same way multiple references can be transcluded across pages with the same content). After you cleaned it up, I tried it again using just seasons 3 and 4, but I'm already getting an error on the episode page. Are you able to tell me why when the content on both pages in regards to that is identical? TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:27, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The best way that I can figure to fix the "duplicate" references is to change each seasons page reference to a short reference, e.g. in each seasons page, change the full reference from:

<ref name="TFC">{{Cite web ... |url-status=live}}</ref> to
<ref name="TFC" />

and then move the full reference to the references section like:
{{reflist|refs=
<ref name="TFC">{{Cite web ... |url-status=live}}</ref>
}}
</nowiki> and the same reference section will have to be added to the "List" page as well.

I hope that helps... Quebec99 (talk) 22:45, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
