Yes, it’s an essay, but it’s also a notable topic, and not horribly written. Is there any way it can be rescued? Bearian (talk) 23:58, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support Rescue. I agree. It is well written but in need of updating. A fine collection of information that need not be wasted to the scrap heap of discarded information. Buster Seven Talk (UTC) 16:50, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Perhaps it can be moved to a draft until it gets rewritten into a proper article. Di (they-them) (talk) 16:52, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, per WP:DRAFT90 (see this RfC), articles created more than 90 days ago can't be draftified without prior consensus at AfD. C F A 17:27, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

Ray cat depiction
Your artistic render of a Ray cat is inspiring and intriguing. At first I thought the cat might be an extraterrestrial depicted on the surface of Mars. Given the proposed application of Ray Cats, it might more likely be meant to depict the Nevada desert. Interestingly, both "Aliens" and "Nuclear Radiation" are associated with the Nevada desert region, making either interpretation equally valid. (The source image listed for the background is actually a "Desert near Riyadh", Saudi Arabia.)
User:Tamzin noted at Talk:Ray_cat#Glowing_green? that the study proposing "Ray cats" does not specify an appearance & also is not specifically about modifying the appearance of cats. However, I think that your depiction is good to show what "Ray cats" look like in the imagination of those who hear about them (as a cultural phenomenon), and also might inspire further study into the development of useful bioengineered companion animals. Can you comment on your inspirations & thoughts in creating the piece? — Hubcapp (talk) 17:55, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Hubcapp:, thanks! I'm really glad you like the image. I believe that my inspiration for the green glow was probably subconsciously influenced by the trope of green glowing materials representing radioactivity in fiction (for example, the intro to The Simpsons features Homer mishandling a glowing green bar of radioactive material). According to this article, this is probably influenced by the fact that radium can glow in the dark and was used in self-luminous paint in the 1900s. As far as the desert scenery, I chose that because in my mind, ray cats would be found around nuclear waste dump sites like the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository in Nevada. Additionally, the way that the Ray Cat was proposed to be used to inform people far in the future made me think of it existing in a post-apocalyptic setting, so I may have been subconsciously influenced by the desert wastelands in the Mad Max franchise. Di (they-them) (talk) 18:05, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- I second Hubcapp; that image of surreal green cat is very memorable for me: even after I forgot about Ray Cats altogether, that illustration made me realize I already had read that article before. And TIL it was made by you. :D Ca talk to me! 17:14, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
