Class (book)
- ... that marmalade, mashed potato and fish knives were all used in the book Class to identify different British social classes? Source: https://books.google.co.uk/books?hl=en&lr=&id=CxXnDwAAQBAJ&oi=fnd&pg=PT9&dq=%22class%22+jilly+cooper&ots=mssal_fo4g&sig=bM-eDeQYAnmsrSPfAl06DA_9Pm4&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=%22class%22%20jilly%20cooper&f=false - the foods are mentioned at different points in the book, but google books doesn't give page numbers in this case unfortunately

@Lajmmoore: thank you for an interesting and amusing article. The article is new enough and long enough, it is well sourced and Earwig does not show any copyvio problems. I have checked the online references and removed one quote that appeared to be incorrect. The hook is interesting and short enough and well sourced. I found Scoff: A History of Food and Class in Britain on archive.org and the pages numbers there are 22 for marmalade, 34 for mashed potato and 232 for fish knives.
