General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Article moved to mainspace on 4 July 2025, and is 555 words (3,454 characters) long. It is fully cited, neutral and free of plagiarism (Earwig results find only trivial similarities). The hook is cited and interesting, and QPQ is done. All good on DYK grounds; this is another excellent article from Penguin on abortion! Grnrchst (talk) 11:01, 4 July 2025 (UTC)

@Vigilantcosmicpenguin and Grnrchst: I've undone my own promotion here because of a post at ERRORS invalidating the hook – see Special:Diff/1302439486. Going to need a new hook. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 18:25, 25 July 2025 (UTC)

How about this:
  • ALT1: ... that the ban on abortion in the Republic of the Congo is unchanged from a law from 1810?
  • Source: [2] These principles apply to both the Congo and Haiti, which have retained the original wording of article 317 of the Penal Code of 1810.

@Vigilantcosmicpenguin: Not happy using a 1990 source for ALT1.--Launchballer 14:41, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
  • I have added a citation to another source from 2014 that verifies that the Congo Republic is one of the countries that "have retained colonially inherited abortion laws in their penal codes". This is a highly reliable source, so I think that this statement, alongside the statement that the colonial law was from 1810, can be used to verify that the 1810 law is still on the books as of 2014. This is still a decade old, but there are no sources saying there have been later developments, so I hope you consider this satisfactory. — Vigilant Cosmic Penguin 🐧(talk | contribs) 21:02, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
This should be fine.--Launchballer 17:48, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
