The founder of the Tasifeto was Dasi Feha Mauk (ancestor of the Belu people), whose name describes his personality as a 'broad-hearted and wise person'. The Tasifeto Kingdom is also known by a more sacred nickname, namely Manuaman Lakaan which means 'rooster from the peak of Mount Lakaan', the place where the first ancestors of the Belu people and Timorese people in general came from. The language spoken by the people of the Tasifeto is Tetun language, a language also spoken in Tasimane (South Belu) and Portuguese Timor.
