Adding two paragraphs on role of CIA in drug trafficking

[edit]

I've added two paragraphs on allegations from historians and journalists that the CIA was involved in the US drug trade in the 1980s, in order to fund and arm the Contras. In doing so I cite several sources, including by historian Wil Pansters [1], historians Russell and Sylvia Bartley [2], journalists L. Chaparro and J.J. Esquivel [3]. Panster's summary is particularly enlightening; he has other academic journal articles that refer to this issue as well. -Darouet (talk) 15:32, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Just a comment: it is missing a lot of criticism of this. It puts up all the allegations....but none of the denials. While some who worked at the DEA have said this, others have called it false. You can see that on the Kiki Camarena page. (Some of this appears to have been copied from that page.) Rja13ww33 (talk) 16:52, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we can find some better references for CIA denials of involvement: for instance, commentary from historians. I think that can be found. For the time being, I've added the following [4]. The Camarena page includes a statement by Elaine Shannon, but this is just a blog post, so I think it's an inadequate source. -Darouet (talk) 18:10, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've found a better one. Will try to drop it in today. Rja13ww33 (talk) 18:37, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
