Text and/or other creative content from African slave trade was copied or moved into Slavery with this edit on 10:03, 6 May 2009. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted as long as the latter page exists.
Just a non editor passing through. I didn't ask for this, but, can someone with more wiki skills follow the procedure to establish a consensus for this alteration? I think the original poster had a point and a consensus is worth pursuing. 173.222.1.130 (talk) 23:40, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's been a few discussions about this—I forget where, but I think there was one at the Village pump—in short, there's no consensus to mandate the use of one term over the other. Both terms are well attested in the reliable sources we base usage off of, and both can be argued to reflect different shades of meaning that may be worth emphasizing in different contexts. I request for all instances of "black Africans" to be changed to "sub-Saharan Africans" because only sub-Saharan Africans are black and North Africans are not (North Africans are Arabs or Berbers by the way). Also there are only instances of "Europeans", not "white Europeans". 2A0A:EF40:1395:D501:188A:5F4F:8272:5A46 (talk) 15:34, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Making the request again doesn't help. See the rationale above, your own preference is no reason to change the article. Please do not make any more similar requests, these will be reverted without further discussion. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK16:24, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This template must be followed by a complete and specific description of the request, that is, specify what text should be removed and a verbatim copy of the text that should replace it. "Please change X" is not acceptable and will be rejected; the request must be of the form "please change X to Y".
The edit may be made by any autoconfirmed user. Remember to change the |answered=no parameter to "yes" when the request has been accepted, rejected or on hold awaiting user input. This is so that inactive or completed requests don't needlessly fill up the edit requests category. You may also wish to use the {{ESp}} template in the response. To request that a page be protected or unprotected, make a protection request.
I propose adding the following paragraph to the East Asian subsection of this Wikipedia article. This edit will provide the information necessary to be adequately educated on the subject, deterring the sidelining of Asian voices and experiences in the history of slavery. Indentured servitude is mentioned throughout the article, but is notably missing from the East Asian subsection. Proposed addition as follows:
I removed the list of films in the "Media" section (can be seen here) for two reasons:
The list is WP:UNDUE, because it focuses on the films themselves, not on their depiction of slavery (different from the prose part of the section which should remain)
The list is an arbitrary selection. E.g. why is "Gone with the Wind" missing ? Why is "Cervantes" included, which is not about slavery, but about the youth of Spain's most famous author ? Why should "The Birth of a Nation" be included, a film that denies the humanity and dignity of enslaved persons ?
