Boba’s survival

[edit]

On the Phantom Menace page, Maul’s survival in TCW is mentioned. Someone said that doing the same for Boba wouldn’t work because it’s not relevant to the film itself. While this is fair, it’s also inconsistent with the Phantom Menace page.

For consistency’s sake, I think either the mention of Boba surviving should be added, or the mention of Maul surviving should be removed from that page, since both deaths were retconned via TV shows.

This is the talk page for Return of the Jedi, what happens on another article is not relevant here. Something that was retconned in a TV show nearly 40 years after this isn't relevant to the plot of this movie. Film plots are contemporary to the film and its release. If you wish to remove it from TPM then go ahead. Canterbury Tail talk 00:09, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I concur with Canterbury Tail. The retcon is relevant to the later works that rely on it, but it serves no purpose here. Betty Logan (talk) 02:33, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I removed two links that did not offer anything "extra" that was not available. The list has grown too long. The Wookieepedia link needs be checked. The site has a warning "I have a bad feeling about this", and a plea "help Wookieepedia by editing this article". Readers do not need to be directed off-site to a user edited Wikipedia knockoff that has issues. -- Otr500 (talk) 13:21, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Off-screen identifications in plot section

[edit]

Using Thor (film) (currently a GA) as a model, I tried adding in the Emperor's identification offscreen, but was reverted.

As per WP:BRD, I am opening a discussion here. Should we mention important events that happen later in the Star Wars saga (including the Emperor's identity) via footnotes? Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 23:11, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No, either in this case or more generally. Firstly, I think the bar has to be fairly high in terms of "importance" to include references to events in the wider fictional universe that aren't in the subject of the article. In the plot section, only what is in the primary source iteself should be uncited. Unlike the MCU, which at relatively early stage introduced teased plot elements, the Star Wars universe doesn't benefit from this. The fact that he went by the identity Palpatine at a point in the past, doesn't help to explain to the reader any of the events in this film, or indeed this trilogy. Also, in this specific case, the existing wikilink to the character article already identifies the character for readers who are hovering so the note just replicates this, and I personally find the use of term "offscreen" confusing (where and when?).
