Article length

[edit]

The current article length (at the time of this edit) is 211,789 bytes, which is more than double that of James Callaghan – the longest-lived former UK prime minister (he died one day before his 93rd birthday), an MP for 42 years and a life peer after that. Up until 20 July 2024, the Farage article was actually a huge 268,000 bytes, considerably longer than that of Winston Churchill, until about 75,000 bytes were removed by another editor to the new article Political positions of Nigel Farage.

One could suggest that in comparison to the article on James Callaghan, this article on Nigel Farage is still lengthy at over 211,000 bytes and at risk of WP:RECENTISM as well as including content which may come under the label of WP:NOTNEWSPAPER. Callaghan was an MP at Westminster for about 41 years longer than Farage's current period and Callaghan remains the only person in history to have held all four Great Offices of State. Is it really needed to have Farage's views from a Sky News interview about Donald Trump in both the Political positions of Nigel Farage article and this Nigel Farage article? In my view, I don't think it is.

Content has been added today to this article from a reference in The Guardian stating "In the time from Farage being elected as an MP in July 2024 to May 2025, he went abroad at least nine times and went on holiday to France while Parliament was sitting in May 2025."

The reference states that Farage said (in relation to his holiday in France) that he was taking his first overseas break for three years apart from his stint in the I'm a Celebrity jungle.

Are his recent various overseas non-holiday trips between July 2024 to May 2025 important enough to be added to more than 211,000 bytes? Many MPs do have second jobs. It may be argued that none of them should have second jobs and they should all be completely devoted to just one job as an MP. But the fact remains that many MPs do have second jobs and go abroad on various trips and weekend breaks. If there were multiple sources such as from BBC News and The Times also referring to the content about Farage's overseas trips between July 2024 to May 2025 then it would give more weight for inclusion. Currently there is only one reference to it in The Guardian. Regards, Kind Tennis Fan (talk) 18:47, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Amphibian fame

[edit]

Has he not also be likened, on satirical TV, to Mr Toad? Perhaps I just imagined it. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:12, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • In my view it is probably not important enough to include in this article. It would need reliable secondary sources and even if there is a secondary source available it's still questionable whether the content is genuinely encyclopedic or a case of WP:NOTNEWSPAPER. I'm inclined to think it's the latter and not sufficiently important. Regards, Kind Tennis Fan (talk) 01:12, 13 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Your reverts were concerned with a frog characterisation? I'm thinking of a distinctive Mr Toad satirical depiction. There just seemed to be a pattern emerging... Martinevans123 (talk) 10:53, 13 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Correction for HIV-positive and those with tuberculosis

[edit]

"In October 2014, Farage said that people who are HIV-positive and those with tuberculosis shouldn't be let into the UK and that "I do not think people with life-threatening diseases should be treated by our National Health Service".[104]" This is missing a crucial caveat. The reference is related to immigrants who are HIV-positive and immigrants with tuberculosis. The current way it is written is suggesting Farage wants no one to be given support for these conditions on the NHS.Caitpj (talk) 15:43, 13 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
