Hello editors,
I am an employee of the University of California, Irvine, and I am posting this request in accordance with Wikipedia’s conflict of interest guidelines. I do not intend to edit the article directly but would like to suggest improvements to ensure accuracy and adherence to Wikipedia’s neutrality standards.
Upon reviewing the article, I noticed the following issues:
1. **Lack of Citations**: Several statements lack citations or rely on outdated sources. For example, the claim that Dr. Steinkuehler has published over 150 articles and book chapters is not currently supported by a citation.
2. **Promotional Tone**: Certain sections may read as promotional or overly positive. For instance, phrases like "She has published over 150 articles and book chapters including five special journal issues and two books" could be rephrased to maintain a neutral tone.
3. **Outdated Information**: Some information may be outdated. For example, the article mentions that Dr. Steinkuehler and Dr. Squire "continue to co-direct the Games+Learning+Society (GLS) Center today," but it's unclear if this is still current.
I propose the following edits:
- **Publications**: Update the statement to reflect verifiable information, such as: Current Issue: The article states that Dr. Steinkuehler has published over 150 articles and book chapters, but lacks a citation.
Proposed Edit: "As of 2025, Dr. Steinkuehler has authored over 130 publications, including peer-reviewed articles and book chapters."
Supporting Source: Her ResearchGate profile lists 131 publications: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Constance-Steinkuehler
- **Professional Roles**: Verify and update current roles and affiliations. For example, confirm if Dr. Steinkuehler still co-directs the GLS Center and update accordingly. [Provide a reliable source.] Current Issue: The article mentions that Dr. Steinkuehler continues to co-direct the GLS Center, but this information may be outdated.
Proposed Edit: "She is the co-director of the Games+Learning+Society (GLS) Center at the University of California, Irvine."wilsoncenter.org
Supporting Source: The Wilson Center profile confirms her current role: https://www.wilsoncenter.org/person/constance-steinkuehler?
- **Add Recent Research Focus**: Current Issue: The article lacks information on Dr. Steinkuehler's recent research projects.
Proposed Edit: "Her recent projects include investigations into toxicity and extremism in online games, the impact of casual games on well-being, and reasoning with misinformation."
Supporting Source: The Wilson Center profile: https://www.wilsoncenter.org/person/constance-steinkuehler?
-**Clarify Educational Background**: Current Issue: The article lists her educational qualifications but lacks specific details.
Proposed Edit: "Dr. Steinkuehler earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2005, with a dissertation titled 'Cognition & Learning in Massively Multiplayer Online Games,' a cognitive ethnography of the games Lineage I and II."
Supporting Source: ResearchGate profile https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Constance-Steinkuehler
-**Neutralize Promotional Language**: Current Issue: Some language in the article may appear promotional.
Proposed Edit: Replace phrases like "She has published over 150 articles and book chapters including five special journal issues and two books" with a more neutral tone, such as:
"Dr. Steinkuehler has contributed extensively to the field through numerous publications, including peer-reviewed articles, special journal issues, and books."
I have gathered supporting citations from independent, reliable sources to substantiate these edits. I would be grateful if a neutral editor could review and implement the appropriate changes.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
