scope

[edit]

The supposed scope of this article is antisemitism in Islam, not antisemitism by Muslims. The entirety of the Islamic antisemitism in Europe section is off-topic here. nableezy - 23:12, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Then there are two possible ways to solve this issue: 1. To change the scope and the name of the article to "Antisemitism in Islam and by Muslims", or 2. Create a separate article called "Antisemitism by Muslims". Which one do you prefer? Vegan416 (talk) 06:04, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The latter. nableezy - 11:45, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

title no (longer) reflects the content

[edit]

The article presumably has started as an article about antisemitism (or anti-Jewish attitudes or judeophobia etc.) in the Islamic world or in Islam. But currently I see (sub)sections where more positive attitudes towards Jews in Islamic countries seem also to be described:
Iberian Peninsula (“Spanish Judaism flourished for several centuries. Thus, what some refer to as the "golden age" for Jews began. During this period the Muslims of Spain tolerated other religions, including Judaism, and created a heterodox society”);
Ottoman Empire (“As long as the empire flourished, the Jews did as well, according to Schweitzer and Perry. In contrast with their treatment of Christians, the Ottomans were more tolerant of Jews and promoted their economic development”);
Egypt and Iraq (“caliphs of Fatimid dynasty in Egypt were known to be Judeophiles, according to Leon Poliakov. They paid regularly to support the Jewish institutions such as the rabbinical academy of Jerusalem. A significant number of their ministers and counselors were Jews. The Abbasids too similarly were respectful and tolerant towards the Jews”).

So, a more proper (fair, objective) title of the article should now be: ‘History of Jews in Islam and in the Islamic world’. Comparable with article titles like ‘History of European Jews in the Middle Ages’.

But perhaps, at the same time, the article should be split into article 'Islamic views on Jews' ( for the very long(!) sections 'Jews in the Quran' and 'Muhammad and Jews') and article ‘History of Jews in the Islamic world’. --Corriebertus (talk) 00:02, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is already another article with that title. So I do not think that makes sense. Andre🚐 00:05, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@AndreJustAndre: Which 'other article'? And how does the existence of 'another article' solve the problem that I described here: the problem that this article bears a name that does not (any longer) (fairly, objectively) reflects its contents? --Corriebertus (talk) 08:26, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, the title is History of the Jews under Muslim rule. Perhaps History of Jews in the Muslim world would be a better title for that article. But I do not agree that "Antisemitism in Islam" is not a valid, notable topic discussed by RS. There is also Antisemitism in the Arab world. Andre🚐 19:00, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
