MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist
Spam blacklists |
---|
|
The Spam-whitelist page is used in conjunction with the Mediawiki SpamBlacklist extension, and lists strings of text that override Meta's blacklist and the local spam-blacklist. Any administrator can edit the spam whitelist. Please post comments to the appropriate section below: Proposed additions (web pages to unblock), Proposed removals (sites to reblock), or Troubleshooting and problems; read the messageboxes at the top of each section for an explanation. See also MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist.
Please enter your requests at the bottom of the Proposed additions to Whitelist section and not at the very bottom of the page. Sign your requests with four tildes: ~~~~
Also in your request, please include the following:
- The link that you want whitelisted in the section title, like === example.com/help/index.php === .
- The Wikipedia page on which you want to use the link
- An explanation why it would be useful to the encyclopedia article proper
- If the site you're requesting is listed at /Common requests, please include confirmation that you have read the reason why requests regarding the site are commonly denied and that you still desire to proceed with your request
Important: You must provide a full link to the specific web page you want to be whitelisted (leave out the http://
from the front; otherwise you will not be able to save your edit to this page). Requests quoting only a domain (i.e. ending in .com
or similar with nothing after the /
character) are likely to be denied. If you wish to have a site fully unblocked please visit the relevant section of MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist.
Note: Do not request links to be whitelisted where you can reasonably suspect that the material you want to link to is in violation of copyright (see WP:LINKVIO). Such requests will likely be summarily rejected.
There is no automated notification system in place for the results of requests, and you will not be notified when your request has a response. You should therefore add this page to your personal watch list, to your notifications through the subscribe feature, or check back here every few days to see if there is any progress on it; in particular, you should check whether administrators have raised any additional queries or expressed any concerns about the request, as failure to reply to these promptly will generally result in the request being denied.
Completed requests are archived, additions and removal are logged. →snippet for logging: {{/request|1296889976#section_name}}
Note that requests from new or unregistered users are not usually considered.
Admins: Use seth's tool to search the spamlists.

Proposed additions
[edit]
If you have a source that you would like to add to the spam-whitelist, but you are uncertain that it meets Wikipedia's guideline on reliability, please ask for opinions on the Reliable sources noticeboard, to confirm that it does meet that guideline, before submitting your whitelisting request here. In your request, link to the confirming discussion on that noticeboard.
Likewise, if you have an external link that you are uncertain meets Wikipedia's guideline on external links, please get confirmation on the External links noticeboard before submitting your whitelisting request here.
If your whitelist request falls under one of these two categories, the admins will be more willing to have the source whitelisted if you can achieve consensus at one of the above noticeboards.
Add new entries at the bottom of this page. Completed requests will be marked with an appropriate Indicator then archived.
If the above information is not provided, expect your request to be declined. PLEASE ADD NEW ENTRIES TO THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST PLEASE SIGN YOUR ENTRY WITH FOUR TILDES: ~~~~ |

I am editing the Colton Ford article after his passing on the 19th. His 2008 interview with About.com was one of his longest, and he went into details about his early life. For a former porn star, I rarely find comprehensive interviews like this. While About.com is still ambivalent in terms of reliability, I believe this interview is a useful addition to Ford's biography. Damian Vo (talk) 14:28, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

Probably could prove useful for other pages as well. Thanks for any help. Soulbust (talk) 08:25, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Soulbust, Is there no reliable sources that talk about/republish the awards ? I'd suggest using those instead if they are available. Sohom (talk) 14:22, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Sohom Datta: Yeah I tried looking for that on AVN's and XBIZ's websites. Could only find stories they published on the winners; she was nominated for 3 PH awards that year, winning one, so sourcing for the 2 other noms is needed. I found this from AltPorn.net -- That site is used on some other articles and I placed in the Morgpie article for now but I'm not too sure if it counts as an RS. The site has its own award ceremony actually, which I did find to be covered by XBIZ, so maybe it does count as an RS? Either way, I figure the actual PH Awards Winners/Nominees archive would be otherwise suitable and appropriate to use here. Think it'd be worth to whitelist the specific URL just to have it be an easy source to use in future cases like this. Soulbust (talk) 14:34, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Soulbust: Makes sense, based on that

- For the following articles: Conjunction_(astronomy)
A rare smiley face triple conjunction occurred this year in April. The Conjunction page has no mention of this. I want to add this image along with some other images captured from different locations by creating a '2025' year catalog under the 'Notable Conjunctions' section. I want to use this image in particular because this is the only image captured from South Asia and having images from different places helps astronomers and readers.
Declined. Raw links to pictures are discouraged onwiki, they can be upload onwiki provided they are done in a way that is in compliance with WP:NFCC. --Sohom (talk) 12:27, 18 June 2025 (UTC)

- There appear to be multiple other sources talking about the April 2025 conjunction like [1], [2], [3] which talk about it, some might not be RS, but they are better than a blacklisted site. Sohom (talk) 15:32, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
- Agree; The El Paso Times ref is a perfectly good source and as such there's no rationale for whitelisting anything from this site. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:34, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Sohom Datta, @Ohnoitsjamie This image helps astronomers study how the event appeared in different parts of the world. Since no confirmed images of this conjunction exist from Southern Asia (India), this photo is especially useful. I'm adding it to the "Notable Conjunctions" section of the Conjunction (astronomy) page by creating this years (2025) catalog. Additionally, this image has also been featured in BBC Sky at Night and Sky & Telescope magazines, stating that it is a good capture and is helpful and relevant. Other sources, like the El Paso Times, have used older images (the images that were not captured this year), making this one a more accurate and relevant choice for this year's (2025) smiley face conjunction. You overlooked that it's not about the reputation of the websites but about the relevance, and older images won't be relevant for my edit. And to be precise again, it's not about data but the image. I hope you got what I want to say! Prem 23g5 (talk) 16:01, 18 June 2025 (UTC)

A statement was removed from the article Adalah-NY, on the grounds that it was unsourced. The source is a press release from the organisation itself, on a website which has now been archived. The only source I was able to find for the statement was at the site noted above, which has been blacklisted. It would be beneficial to include this statement of the organisation's beliefs, with a link to its original statement. RolandR (talk) 23:38, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
