Gift cards
[edit]Can the source of the gift cards for the contest be specified? I see on the Spanish event that they're for Amazon, but didn't want to make the assumption that they're the same here. Funcrunch (talk) 15:13, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Questions
[edit]Hi! A few quick questions about this event. Firstly, where do we list articles/contributions to be scored? Under the article list? Secondly, is there anything for improving articles to GA/FA? Spookyaki (talk) 06:02, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
- It looks like the main article was edited.
- Each article has to be added to the following page in order to be scored: Event:Wiki Loves Pride/2025/Created articles Einstienium99 (talk) 11:34, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
- Yup! Did see that. Thank you! Spookyaki (talk) 13:23, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
Banner
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Please make the banner smaller, ie the size usually used to advertise events. Making it this huge is jolting, especially given the colour choice. Cremastra (u — c) 21:21, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
- Seconding, the banner seems twice as tall as the usual event promos. ViridianPenguin🐧 (💬) 21:29, 1 June 2025 (UTC)

- How about getting rid of it all together. What on earth have people's sexual preferences got to do with an encyclopedia? Answer: nothing. MidnightBlue (Talk) 10:09, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
- Plenty? "Sexual preferences", that is sexual orientation and gender identity, is and has been extensively featured and expanded upon on Wikipedia. There is a vast treasure trove of amazing articles on LGBTQ+ rights, history, activists, artists, identities, etc. all over Wikipedia. There are also many WikiProjects on the topics, and a lot of WP editors and admins themselves belong to the community (including myself). Pride and the LGBTQ+ community have just as much reason to be celebrated on Wikipedia as anything else. Drunk Experiter (Kanni, she/her) (talk) 12:18, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
- I second this. Illioplius (talk) 16:49, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
- We have groups of people interested in expanding coverage related roads, train stations, countries, scientific disciplines, all kinds of things. LGBTQ+ people, their culture, even their existence, has been subject to discrimination, violence, erasure...
- If people want to spend their time as a volunteer here organising this event or participating in this event, they're making Wikipedia more complete. On the other hand, complaining about how other people spend their time doesn't improve Wikipedia. Guettarda (talk) 02:15, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- Inclusion is literally part of Wikipedia's core values. I would suggest reading more about mission and vision statements before unilaterally declaring what they are or aren't. Mkdw talk 05:15, 9 June 2025 (UTC)

- Promoting or recognizing Pride Month in the manner that this banner does violates NPOV. The banner should be removed. R. G. Checkers talk 05:57, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- @R. G. Checkers The goal is create and improve articles! What's wrong with that? Would you object to a month-long event that improves our coverage of Australia? I'm a little unsure of what you mean by
in the manner that this banner does
– is there a way it could be advertised that in your view is neutral. - Also, on a pedantic level, NPOV doesn't apply because it only covers
encyclopedic content
. Cremastra (Go Oilers!) 13:44, 8 June 2025 (UTC)- It says “Wiki loves Pride”. Most readers are ignorant of the projects to improve articles. So they assume it’s just a banner in support of pride month. Saying you love something is endorsing it. R. G. Checkers talk 14:46, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- I still don't see how this is NPOV issue, but I suppose the banner could make it clearer what the event is. Cremastra (Go Oilers!) 14:51, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- User_talk:Cremastra Why are you deleting my quistions ? are you a better person than i am ? just ansver it or at least dont delete them? Larsbg dk (talk) 21:06, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- Your previous comments on this page were removed because they are in violation of the civility policy and also contained a personal attack, which is prohibited on Wikipedia. — Newslinger talk 21:40, 10 June 2025 (UTC)

- Doesn't matter. NPOV doesn't apply to the governance of Wikipedia. Only content. Projects are only a small part of the governance of Wikipedia and you're obviously not familiar with some Wikipedia's values:
- To build the sum of all knowledge, we need to embrace human diversity.
- Our differences are powerful and require nurturing.
- We do our best work when we understand different perspectives.

Legislation
[edit]I'm pretty sure I know the answer but rather be safe than sorry. Would LGBTQ-related laws or legislation qualify here? 🪷 nahida 01:13, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, LGBTQ-related legislation does count :).--Freddy eduardo (talk) 01:25, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
Does this count? (Television)
[edit]I recently created an episode article for the television series Ted, and the article is based around an LGBTQ themed episode of said show. Would the article (article: Loud Night) qualify here? Crystal Drawers (talk) 13:28, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Crystal Drawers, yes, tv episodes that feature queer storylines do count for the contest. However, they need to be created (or expanded) from June 1st to June 31st. That particular article was created in May, so it wouldn't count for that reason. Regards,--Freddy eduardo (talk) 13:56, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply. I created the draft in May but moved it to the main space in June. I also expanded it greatly and added each section between June 1st and today, so i think it might still count Crystal Drawers (talk) 14:01, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, then it does count. Don't forget to add it to the list.--Freddy eduardo (talk) 14:02, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
Registration location
[edit]I registered for this at meta wiki, I can still add to the list here right? KnowDeath (talk) 03:11, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not part of the jury here in English, but I think it's best to register here as well.--Freddy eduardo (talk) 20:22, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
Translation
[edit]"If it is a translation, it must not be a machine or faulty translation." Is it okay if it's primarily machine translated but checked by a native speaker? KnowDeath (talk) 03:14, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, KnowDeath, yes, of course, the original translation can be done with a machine translator, but this translation has to be checked and corrected by a human editor before adding the article to the list of created articles for the contest. Regards,--Freddy eduardo (talk) 20:21, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response! KnowDeath (talk) 20:24, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
Languages Other Than English
[edit]Hello, dear organizer, I hope you're well. I’m an active editor on the Urdu Wikipedia, and I’m interested in participating in Wiki Loves Pride. I would like to ask kindly: Is it possible to contribute to the campaign by creating or improving articles in Urdu? Looking forward to your response. Best regards, Mohammad Murtaza Zaidi (talk) 03:22, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- Wiki Loves Pride is a global campaign, so all queer-related improvements or new articles creations are welcome for the campaign. For the contest, though, it depends on the language. We have running contest for English, French, Spanish, and for Commons.--Freddy eduardo (talk) 21:31, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
Improve more LBGTQ articles
[edit]Does xe/xem count? AsphyciteWojolord (talk) 18:00, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- All LGBTQ-related articles do count for the contest. Best,--Freddy eduardo (talk) 21:29, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
Guidance on addressing editor dismissing "queer space" as a buzzword
[edit]How should one proceed when another editor repeatedly dismisses well-established terms like "queer space" as mere buzzwords, despite their documented use in academic and activist contexts? Is there a process for addressing when an editor lacks subject-matter familiarity but continues to remove or undermine language that reflects key concepts in LGBTQ+ history and spatial politics? Friendsofhanlans (talk) 20:32, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
Drag performers
[edit]Wikipedia:WikiProject Drag Race/Showcase displays some Featured and Good articles about drag performers associated with the Drag Race franchise. Many of the articles have not been translated into other languages, if any editors are looking for opportunities to translate quality bios for other projects. Thanks and happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:19, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
