Environmental Activism

[edit]

Gómez Gálvez is the Deputy Executive Director of Environment and Resilience for Panama City.[4][5][6] She also serves as the International Programs Director at the Salamandra Foundation.[7]

Founder of GeoAzul S.A.,[8] a social and agricultural enterprise focused on organic waste recycling and prisoners reintegration through circular economy practices.[9] The joint initiative EcoSólidos,[10] developed by GeoAzul in partnership with Panama's Ministry of Government, has been recognized both nationally and internationally,[11] including a feature on the BBC World Service program People Fixing The World.[12]

Under her leadership, GeoAzul won the Road to Innovate competition, organized by Fundación Libertad Panamá, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, and the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (APEDE).[13] At the same time, GeoAzul received the Golden Palm for Circular Economy from the Panamanian Industrialists Union (SIP) for its environmental practices.[14] In 2021, she became an alumna of the U.S. State Department’s program[15] Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI).[16]

Gómez Gálvez also has experience managing grassroots community organizations. As Vice President of EcoCrocs Panamá, she has overseen sustainable development and environmental conservation projects in Soberanía National Park.[17] The community-based initiative "Women's Communitarian Patrolling" by EcoCrocs was recognized by the Ford Environmental Grants Program for Central America and the Caribbean.[18]

In 2024, Gómez Gálvez ran as a candidate for the Panama National Assembly[19] under the Frecuencia Independiente coalition in Circuit 8-6,[20] which includes the communities of Pedregal, Tocumen, 24 de Diciembre, Las Mañanitas, Pacora, Las Garzas, and San Martín. Although her campaign focused on transparency in public administration,[21] sustainability, and social development,[22] she did not win the seat. The same year, she was included in the 2024 Forbes list of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Central America.[23]

Scientific Research

[edit]

She saw her first scientific article published in the University of Panama's scientific magazine. As co-author she performed a comparative modeling between the septic tank systems and a UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket) reactor for the wastewater treatment in panamanian's public schools.[24]
