H. E. Georgios Olympios

Georgios Olympios (Greek: Γεώργιος Ολύμπιος) is a Greek civil engineer, business consultant, and art collector. He has been active in international diplomacy, corporate strategy, and cultural initiatives. His work spans across Europe, Africa, and Asia, where he has focused on business development, government relations, and intercultural collaborations. Olympios has also contributed to the promotion of contemporary art, participating in exhibitions and cultural projects internationally.

He is known for his association with organizations such as ELINEPA, his advisory role at the Art Thessaloniki International Contemporary Art Fair, and for his support of Greek-Indian cultural cooperation initiatives.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Georgios Olympios was born in Greece. His father, Christodoulos Olympios, was also a civil engineer and served as a technical advisor to the German government in Greece. Olympios claims direct descent from Giorgakis Olympios, a hero of the Greek War of Independence in 1821.[4]

He studied civil engineering in Berlin and later attended postgraduate programs in economics, political science, and business administration, with executive training in Strategy and Decision Theory.

Career

Olympios has worked as an advisor to international organizations and multinational corporations. In February 2024, Olympios participated in a meeting between the Greek Deputy Minister of Culture, Christos Dimas, and the Indian Ambassador to Greece, Rudrendra Tandon. Representing ELINEPA as a Knight Commander and Advisor, he conveyed the strong interest of Indian billionaire Prakash Hinduja in the creation of a Greek-Indian film co-production focusing on Alexander the Great and King Porus.[5]

In November 2024, the Ambassador of Georgia to Greece, Levan Beridze, acknowledged Olympios' contributions in facilitating a diplomatic meeting with the Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food.[6]

Art and cultural contributions

Olympios is an avid art collector. He curated a collection titled Bottled Visual Messages, consisting of wine bottles turned into artworks by Greek and international artists, including Vlassis Caniaris, Kostas Varotsos, and Christina Sarantopoulou.[7] The project was exhibited at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki.

He serves as an advisor for international relations at the Art Thessaloniki International Contemporary Art Fair.[8]

Olympios co-authored the essay Colloquio sull’arte di creare relazioni in the collective volume Uomini Illustri: Omaggio a Personalità della Cultura Moderna e Contemporanea, exploring the intersection of art, diplomacy, and networking.[9]

In 2022, he gave an interview titled "Knowledge of religion and history, the common thread in international relations," discussing his meeting with Pope Francis during the Pontiff’s apostolic visit to Greece.[10]

Awards and recognitions

Olympios has received several honors and awards in recognition of his contributions to diplomacy, humanitarian efforts, and the arts:

  • He holds the title of Cavaliere of the Royal Order of Francis I, awarded by the Royal House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies.[citation needed]
  • In 2018, he was awarded the Giuseppe Sciacca International Award at the Vatican, in recognition of his missionary and humanitarian work.[citation needed]
  • He was also awarded the Medalla de Benemerencia de Oro for his humanitarian contributions.[citation needed]
  • In 2019, Olympios participated in the Who is Who International Awards, where he nominated Moroccan-Monegasque advocate Leila Ghandi for the Women Leader award.[citation needed]
  • In 1986, Olympios received an honorary distinction from the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria for his contributions to religious and cultural initiatives.[citation needed]

Personal life

Olympios is fluent in English, German, French, Italian, and Greek. He is married and has three children. He remains active in business consultancy, diplomatic networking, and cultural projects worldwide.
