Mathias Fernandes

I accepted the submission about Bishop Mathias Fernandes of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mysore (1963—1985) through the Articles for creation process. It still needs some cleanup.

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Hello, there's already one available at the Goa page which is in English. If I were to change it to Konkani, the pronounciation changes to Gõy or Goem. But the article is named in English. Hence that won't be usefull. Rejoy²⁰⁰³(talk) 15:57, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

I understand what you're getting at but it still would not align with the article title. Konkani itself has two versions. The one which is written in Devnagari script and the one in Romi Konkani. The later is mostly used by Goan Catholics. If we take Madeira for example there's a Portuguese audio. Because the pronounciation aligns with the article name. Like I said before in Romi Konkani or in Devnagari it would be pronounced as Goem or Gõy. Which would not match the article. If you're interested to learn more about how to pronounce it you can find similar videos online, or if you have an article that has multiple audio files attached maybe then I can help. I have never seen a geographical article have two audio files attached in the lead. Hence I asked if you have seen any such articles on the English Wikipedia. Also people of Goa are called Goans. Whereas Konkani people is a broad spectrum. Rejoy²⁰⁰³(talk) 18:33, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Indian English maybe, American English doesn't have the ण sound.

Indian English in general is not the best while pronouncing Konkani words. Even non-Goans who speak Indian English pronounce most of the Konkani words wrong. Best you can learn to speak is with native Goans. Rejoy²⁰⁰³(talk) 13:45, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Ok but what about ण, it's pronounced differently from न right? An American would say कोंकन or possibly even खोंखन. So I think Indian English is closer than American or British. See this is why I think an audio would be helpful.

To be honest, I don't even deal with Devnagari script much in real life. Apart from using this script back way back in my school days, and a few other rare times I've used it for Konkani Wikipedia, I don't really prefer it. As a fellow Goan Catholic, we prefer to talk (Goan Konkani) and write in Romi Konkani, it is something associated with our culture and daily life. For devnagari, you'll have to find experts of devnagari or Goan Hindus about. I won't be able to help much. Rejoy²⁰⁰³(talk) 18:01, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
