Article review
[edit]How about we adopt something like this: Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Assessment/A-Class_criteria#Formal WikiProject review?
Draft review request
[edit]I have reviewed and decline a draft article at Draft:Tony Harvey (Freemason). The article's author has requested that I re-review in light of updates. I am completely unfamiliar with the realm of Freemasonry, so I'm requesting that a participant in this WikiProject make the assessment instead. Thanks!
Proposal to add child categories to Category:American Freemasons
[edit]Category:American Freemasons is quite bloated, with over 800 pages; I suggest child categories be added either by state (for example, Category:Arkansas Freemasons or Category:Freemasons from Arkansas), or by state of initiation (for example, someone initiated at the Fredericksburg, Virginia lodge would go in Category:Freemasons initiated in Virginia). Thoughts? User01938 (talk) 11:05, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- Meh… I agree that the cat is bloated, but I would address the bloat by being stricter about who gets tagged with the category. In many cases, the subject’s membership in the fraternity was/is not a WP:DEFINING characteristic.
- First thing I would do is remove anyone whose membership isn’t even mentioned (and thus cited) in the bio article (quite a few). Indeed, my preference would be to extend that further, and remove those whose membership is only mentioned in passing.
- That said, I am not sure that breaking it up by State is the way to go. Even for those who were defined by their membership, the distinction between being a Mason in (say) New Jersey and a Mason in Arizona is trivial. Also, how would we deal with those who were Masons in multiple lodges in more than one State? If we must create sub-cats, I would suggest breaking it up by profession: Politicians, Performers, Businessmen, Doctors… etc. Blueboar (talk) 11:16, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
