Minister of foreign affairs versus minister of state for foreign affairs

[edit]

Boutros Boutros-Ghali's Wikipedia article says he "served as Egypt's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs from 1977 until early 1991" and "then became Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs for several months before moving to the UN." Our article Minister of Foreign Affairs (Egypt) list Boutros-Ghali as serving two times as acting foreign minister, in 1977 and then in 1978–1979, with other people occupying the post from '79 onward. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' own website has separate pages listing former ministers of foreign affairs [1] and former ministers of state for foreign affairs [2], with Boutros-Ghali serving in the latter position from 1977 to 1991. So it looks like these are two distinct positions. Boutros-Ghali held the "state" position for fourteen years and may have stepped in to the other position for brief periods in 1977 and in 1978–1979 (I'm not sure, because he isn't on the ministry's list of plain foreign ministers). In any case, our articles on Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Egypt) and Minister of Foreign Affairs (Egypt) do not seem to reflect the distinction between the offices of minister for foreign affairs and the minister of state for foreign affairs. I'd appreciate someone who knows more about it trying to clarify the difference in our articles. A. Parrot (talk)

Hello. Project members are invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It will be held from Monday June 16 - Sunday July 13. There is $3338 going into it, with $500 the top prize. If you are interested in winning some vouchers to help you buy books for future content by improving articles for your country or any other, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of articles improved for your project, sign up if interested.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:26, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Developing Countries WikiContest Gold Belt Buckle
The Developing Countries WikiContest Gold Belt Buckle

WikiProject Egypt, the Developing Countries WikiContest will be returning for a second year, and sign-ups are now open! The contest will run from 1 July to 30 September, and the objective remains the same: improve as many articles relating to developing countries as you can to help fight systemic bias on Wikipedia.

In other news, we have a new face on the coordinator team this year: last year's sixth-place finisher, Arconning (talk · contribs)! The coordinators would like to extend a sincere thanks to Ixtal (talk · contribs), who is leaving the team, without whom the contest would not exist. After feedback from contestants last year, the scoring rules are undergoing some modifications; the new rules and a summary of the changes made will be posted to the contest talk page shortly.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page, use the {{@DCWC coordinators}} template, or contact one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). Six-Day War - Operation Samson (nukes)

[edit]

An IP requested to add details about Samson Option into the Six-Day War article and provided several sources to support their proposal. Edit requests cannot be granted without prior consensus, but the IP at the same time cannot engage in discussion. Therefore, I ask editors to comment on the proposal.
