Is this number correct?

[edit]

Hi, am I missing something here?

Wikipedia continues to grow, and the number of articles on Wikipedia is increasing by about 140,000 a month (as of January 2024). The number of articles added to Wikipedia every month reached its peak in 2006, at over 50,000 new articles a month.

Is this a typo & 140,000 should be 14,000? Blackballnz (talk) 02:23, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Data dump sizes

[edit]

As seen today (2025-06-14 11:30 UTC) the size of the compressed English language Wikipedia database is given in the article as around 24.05GB. From a look at the latest dump this is listed as 23.40GB, which is about 650MB less. I'm aware compression differences/ranged article removals could cause this, but it's making me reluctant to update the information on this article.

Also, if it's of any use; I recently ran a decompression test of the English Wikipedia dump from 2025-05-01 and that - About 24.87GB compressed - Decompresses to 109GB. It may be of interest to some readers, but with the differences between the sizes on this page and in the latest dump (Am I looking at the correct Wikipedia dumps for size info?) I'd like some consensus before I add potentially inaccurate information to the article.
