Need help with article

[edit]

I need help from native Hebrew speakers in order to make Avraham Zagdon's article good enough for mainspace. I do not know how to write such pages, and have never written an article from scratch. I dumped a few sources and stuff there, but there are things in all of the sources I have yet to add as text to the draft. I would like help with: 1. Proof reading the stuff I added from Hebrew sources, and expanding on it (I have used AI to extract content from Hebrew sources) 2. Help expanding more information from Garb's book (in addition to the Hebrew sources I have mentioned earlier) 3. Help formatting everything

The Hebrew research I did was assisted by translators. If you are a native speaker, I would greatly appreciate if you could search for more information yourself Someonefighter (talk) 16:00, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I would say just publish it and make sure all the links and sources are right (no disambigs) and people will come along. There are users who specifically hit new pages to see if they are properly made and notable. :) Metallurgist (talk) 01:57, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Feedback on Draft Article: Hellenized Jews of the Roman Frontiers

[edit]

Hello WikiProject Judaism contributors!

I’m currently developing the article Draft:Illyrian Jews, which focuses on Jewish communities in the Roman and Byzantine provinces of Illyricum, Moesia, and Thrace. The article explores their liturgical practices, frontier settings, Hellenistic influence, and eventual later integration into the Eastern Ashkenazi population—both culturally and (to a limited degree) genetically.

I’m very new to Wikipedia, and would be grateful for any feedback or guidance regarding: - Neutrality and tone, particularly around complex topics such as population continuity, religious practice, and assimilation. - Sourcing—whether other key scholarly sources should be included. - Structure and formatting, especially whether the article fits within established conventions for Jewish history topics.

Thank you so much for your time and insight!

This stub has been unsourced for 15 years. It risks being deleted. It's a controversial topic, so I'm not going to merge or source it myself. Please add reliable sources. Bearian (talk) 02:22, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

"Default" version of Judaism

[edit]

I recently learned, contrary to my prior assumptions, Judaism is not nearly as o/Orthodox as I had thought. In fact, Pew research says that the Reform movement has the plurality in the US, and while it's not the majority, none of the other branches come close. And while the data isn't super recent, they also say that almost half of Israeli Jews are secular. With this in mind, I've been surprised at how much the default point of view on Wikipedia articles has seemed to favor more conservative or orthodox views. This feels like while it's not the biggest problem ever, it isn't quite fully in the spirit of the neutral point of view standards Wikipedia aims for. When editing, I would recommend making sure it's clear who or what branch of Judaism is speaking about which claims and especially checking to make sure we're including liberal and conservative theological opinions at the same level of authority. Hebrew fonts

[edit]

If you look at a page like Shema, the portions enclosed in {{langx}} use a different font than those in {{Script/Hebrew}}. {{langx}} uses sans-serif, while {{Script/Hebrew}} uses serif. Does anyone know of any rhyme or reason for that difference in font?

I know {{lang-he}} was replaced by {{langx}} back in October, and I have no idea what font {{lang-he}} used to use. I also know {{Script/Hebrew}} says it shouldn't be used on text passages, but that might not reflect its real use on wikipedia. Apocheir (talk) 22:41, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to contradict Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Hebrew). For that matter, why is the transliteration so weird? Apocheir (talk) 20:27, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Has anyone thought about creating the essay Wikipedia:No antisemitism? The format and structure of Wikipedia:No queerphobia could be used as an inspiration. Some1 (talk) 03:03, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused about why this hasn't been linked here, why this exists, and why it's not sourced after 13 years. Bearian (talk) 21:28, 11 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
