Template:Unsi (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Fork of {{unsigned}} which encourages people to use non-standard timestamp formats, violating WP:SIGPROB: The timestamp must adhere to the system-generated format (HH:MM, D MM YYYY (UTC)) and must not be customized. This is necessary for clear communications and for archiving bots to function correctly. Timestamps that are customized may be considered disruptive and editors using them may be blocked accordingly. Accordingly, redirect to {{unsigned}}, which accepts the formats in Special:Preferences and automatically converts them to the appropriate format. Keep, it was forked because {{unsigned}} stopped working, and this editor was met with hostility when pointing it out and decided enough was enough. Nominating this for TFD while simultaneously discussing this at the talk page reeks of bad faith, and frankly I'll never use unsigned again even if it means MANUALLY tagging unsigned comments from this point forward. —Locke Cole • t • c 00:08, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

So you wanted me to manually edit timestamps from the page history to fit this template? Timestamps generated by MediaWiki using a standard timestamp format available in Special:Preferences? Of course I took offense to the suggestion that a format provided by four or five tildes was somehow the answer as y'all either wanted me to 1) manually change a timestamp to a date format of your choosing, or 2) go to Special:Preferences, change my timestamp format temporarily so I can get it from the page history "correctly", then change it back just to appease the folks at {{unsigned}}. Now I'm getting blowback for having the audacity to expect the template to show the timestamp with the same granularity it is presented in, even after proving it doesn't totally break reply-to functionality... —Locke Cole • t • c 02:54, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You can use the formats from Special:Preferences and they will already be converted to the WP:SIGPROB requirement, which absolutely applies to the output of {{unsigned}}. Delete or Redirect The bug that inspired its creation was quickly fixed. There's no need for this fork other than the author still being angry that WP:SIGPROB exists and {{unsigned}} converts input to the format specified by the policy. format specified by the policy A couple of things: 1) It's not a policy, it's a behavioral guideline, and (this is really the more important one) 2) this covers signatures, not notifications placed by other editors noting the absence of a signature. Delete. I wouldn't at all mind there being a taxobox template dedicated to Wikifauna. I really don't like the fact that frivolous Wikifauna pages are using {{Speciesbox}} or {{Taxobox}}. But as far as I can tell, this template is not a substitute for how taxoboxes are being used on Wikifauna pages. It seems that this template has everything up from family is hardcoded, and I'm not sure that this template allows any values below family. Existing Wikifauna taxoboxes generally use real taxa at of ranks family and higher. Species ranks in Wikifauna taxoboxes are (almost?) always fictitious, but genera are sometimes real. A taxobox template for fictitious Wikifauna might be somewhat useful outside of article space, but this template is not usable for that purpose. Plantdrew (talk) 02:56, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
