Hi Toddy1 - with regard to your post at User talk:2409:40C2:805D:6BF3:8000:0:0:0, our Bangalore article was renamed to Bengaluru on 27 November 2024. Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 13:34, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. It was a message that I had adapted from one by another editor and have been copying from page to page for months - this search suggests that variants of it are on 56 user talk pages. I guess it was correct when he/she first wrote it.
As the he/she in question [1], it was, on 23 February 2020, when I wrote it !!! - Arjayay (talk) 15:50, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well done! It has been a useful piece of text.-- Toddy1 (talk) 15:52, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, the Karnataka state government proposed the change of name in 2006, but it only became the official name on 1 November 2014. I had to write up the various changes of name for Mangalore Central railway station#Changes of name. Mangalore changed to a new name at the same time as Bangalore.-- Toddy1 (talk) 16:01, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Our Bengaluru article starts "Bengaluru,[a] also known as Bangalore (its official name until 2006)" and repeats the claim further down the lead. However the Etymology section states "On 11 December 2005, the Government of Karnataka accepted a proposal by U. R. Ananthamurthy to officially rename the city from Bangalore to Bengaluru.[14] On 27 September 2006, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike passed a resolution to implement the name change, and the government of Karnataka officially implemented the name change from 1 November 2014 after the Union government approved the request." seems like some inconsistencies need correcting. - Arjayay (talk) 16:08, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
See this correction.-- Toddy1 (talk) 16:14, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the repeat of the 2006 claim further down the lead - I think we're done ! - Arjayay (talk) 16:20, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
