Broadcasted

[edit]

The Wiktionary definition of Broadcasted states the use is sometimes proscribed, so it should not be used. The word also appears on Wikipedia:Lists_of_common_misspellings/B

Broadcasted appears in some dictionaries, but others, e.g. Chambers state "Sorry, no entries for Broadcasted were found".
Broadcast appears in all dictionaries, and should be used as COMMONALITY - "Wikipedia tries to find words that are common to all varieties of English".

A May 2023 search for Broadcast gave over 234,000 uses, compared with a search for Broadcasted which gave just 99.
Of these, 16 are redirects to "Broadcast" articles, 14 refer to a 2015 Canadian TV award and 5 relate to a 1924 cartoon. The rest are in quotations.

Your edits

[edit]

Hi! It happens many times that I get 'edit conflict' when I try to save my edits for typos on long articles I have created shortly before, and you edited in the same time. ı kindly ask you to take time for your edits, because all my work becomes useless, it is time wasting for me, and it annoys me much. You can wait a couple of days for your edit. Thanks. CeeGee 18:46, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry CeeGee, there is no way I can tell whether you are editing, or not. I normally perform 200-300 edits per day, so, when I see a problem, I cannot just file it and return to it sometime later, as that would be huge waste of time, and leave the problem visible to the public for the intervening period. Edit conflicts are not difficult to resolve, one method is to publish your changes as a separate tab, which will show if there is a conflict, whilst retaining your changed text, so, if there is a problem you can resolve it before publishing.
I assume you are referring to my correction at Havza Atatürk's House Museum? Rather than creating a new article in main-space, perhaps you should use your sandbox, or a user-page, and check your article before publishing it? I don't correct typos in sandboxes of user pages - although I occasionally do in draft articles. - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 19:05, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Im just curious what you do to make money? 300 edits per day and that for free? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.233.65.60 (talk) 09:16, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello IP - 300 edits/day is negligible, some editors make 3000 edits/day. - Arjayay (talk) 10:29, 13 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wow! Same issue as the individual below [above, as I have moved the post to the bottom of the section], what a shock. Just lost 10 hours of work based on 500 hours of research thanks your nit picky edits. I left a note saying I was building the rest of the article out. Please kindly stay away from the Hanlan's article until I'm done. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Friendsofhanlans (talkcontribs) 04:10, 13 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Friendsofhanlans Please put new posts at the bottom of threads, and read my reply above.
My correction was over 11 hours after the previous edit to the page, and there were also 5 other edits in between your last edit and mine. Provided you know how to, you don't loose "10 hours of work" from an edit conflict. Please see Help:Edit conflict which states "When this happens, the MediaWiki software provides a screen that allows the user to resolve the conflict manually." and explains different options for how this can then be done. It also gives other methods of preventing edit conflicts, in the "Prevention" section. Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 10:29, 13 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Port St Mary Lifeboat Station

[edit]

Hi @Arjayay

Thanks for the correction. Its all too easy to miss those errors when you're doing multiple edits.

However, what I wanted to say, just if you find any more, please then read what you have corrected.

It should have read "of the" instead of "the the", so just deleting the extra "the" still didn't make sense.

Many thanks

Retro film box office edits

[edit]

Hi Arjayay. Regarding your reverts on my edits to some retro film articles, I wanted to clarify. While I'll concede one of the sources I used was unreliable, the reason for the edits is that many sources claiming the higher box office numbers are themselves misleading. They don't specify that the figure includes non-theatrical revenue, and present the total as the theatrical box office gross. My goal was to correct these inflated numbers to reflect the actual theatrical take. 123gogeta (talk) 14:15, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

123gogeta News 18 is deemed to be a reliable source - whereas there is no judgement on Dina Thanthi. You will need very strong, specific, evidence to show that News 18 is actually incorrect, without which we will continue to show their figure, this is why we show a range. Please respect that. - Arjayay (talk) 21:03, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Arjayay ,
Thank you for the detailed response and for clarifying the view on the sources. I appreciate the discussion.
My reasoning for the edits stems not from questioning News18's general reliability, but from a close reading of what both the primary source (the producer) and the secondary source (News18) are actually saying in this specific instance.
1. The Primary Source: The production company, 2D Entertainment, is the origin of the ₹235 crore figure. They announced this via a poster on their official X/Twitter account. Crucially, that poster includes an asterisk and a disclaimer at the bottom stating the figure is for "*theatrical and non-theatrical revenue*". You can see the tweet and the poster directly here: [1](https://x.com/2D_ENTPVTLTD/status/1924081098889495022). This is a direct admission from the source of the number that it is not a pure box-office gross.
2. The Secondary Source (News18): The News18 article you're referring to is reporting on this specific announcement from the producers. As you can see from the article text, it explicitly attributes the figure to the makers:
> "Directed by Karthik Subbaraj and starring Suriya alongside Pooja Hegde, Retro has raked in a massive ₹235 crore globally, according to its makers. Production house 2D Entertainment shared the milestone on X (formerly Twitter), thanking fans for their “immense love and support."
The article doesn't present an independent box office analysis; it is covering the news of the producer's social media post. Therefore, while News18 is a reliable source, in this case, it is reliably reporting on a primary source's claim, not providing a verified theatrical gross figure itself. This is why other reliable trade sources like Pinkvilla, which track theatrical numbers, report the lower, theatrical-only figure of ~₹97 crore.
My goal is to ensure the article accurately reflects this. The best way to adhere to WP:NPOV and WP:V is to present the verified theatrical gross from trade sources and then use an explanatory note (`Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).`) to detail the producer's higher figure, clarifying that it includes non-theatrical revenue as admitted by the producers themselves. This resolves the discrepancy for the reader rather than presenting a misleadingly large range.
I believe this approach correctly contextualizes all the sources, including News18, without dismissing any of them. I hope this clarifies my intent.
Best,
123gogeta (talk) 123gogeta (talk) 21:11, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
To add a crucial clarification on the sources: The main English-language News18 article, "Suriya Donates Rs 10 Crore As Retro Mints Rs 235 Crore", directly attributes the ₹235 crore figure to the producer's poster, which we already know includes non-theatrical revenue.
The News18 Tamil source (mentioning ~₹200 crore) "சூர்யா நடிக்கும் புதிய படம் தொடக்கம்… பிரமாண்டமாக நடைபெற்ற பூஜை.. நடிகர்கள் யார் தெரியுமா?", menioned in the Retro Wiki page, is less relevant, as it is about a different film and only makes a passing reference to Retro's collection. Therefore, News18's most direct report actually supports the argument that the higher figure is not a verified theatrical gross, but a citation of the producer's announcement. This strengthens the case for using the lower, verified number from trade sources and explaining the discrepancy. 123gogeta (talk) 21:20, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 123gogeta, I have copied this thread to Talk:Retro (film) so other editors can contribute, and added reasons why the Pinkvilla figures are also suspect. Please continue the discussion there - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 10:10, 13 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sock

[edit]

This is likely the sock of the Italian IP LTA we deal frequently. If I'm not wrong, they made an account sometime back which got blocked as well. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:24, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - Fylindfotberserk, agreed. The first few edits were to "new" target articles, the later ones were to "known" target articles. The only account I know to have been blocked was RiccardoBallarotti in 2023 - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 14:35, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Should we start an SPI so that all these accounts get clubbed together? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:51, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You could try, but I suspect that being over 2 years old RiccardoBallarotti will be "stale" - as we know, they usually use IPs - Arjayay (talk) 14:57, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
