Question from Soraluna (06:40, 17 April 2025)

[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vx32

I was unable to add a citation in this article. As I could find a citation option in the menu, and when I tried to add from the template, it is not showing the complete title and not the [1] number. Please guide me. Source link: https://pdos.csail.mit.edu/papers/vx32:usenix08/ --Soraluna (talk) 06:40, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Soraluna: It looks like you did add the citation with this edit. What's the problem? What did you see vs what did you expect to see? TheSandDoctor Talk 16:23, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Due to some technical issue from my end may be the option was glitching. But when I refreshed I was able to add. Thanks for the reply. Soraluna (talk) 13:18, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Soraluna: I am glad that it started working for you! Please do let me know if you ever have any questions. TheSandDoctor Talk 06:15, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Christian Maoudis BOM (11:24, 22 April 2025)

[edit]

Hi is it posable to set up a private wiki space for use in a small team to track information, if so could you link me to any documentation there is on the subject --Christian Maoudis BOM (talk) 11:24, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Christian Maoudis BOM: That is certainly possible. You'd be looking at setting up the underlying software that runs Wikipedia, MediaWiki, on your own computer/server that is serving it either to your local area network or the internet more broadly. Here is the official guide for Manual:installing MediaWiki. TheSandDoctor Talk 12:07, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

If I'm true creating a page when is the page going to be out --I am sturzy (talk) 07:01, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@I am sturzy: Please see WP:YFA and also see WP:AUTOBIO. Creating an article about yourself is highly discouraged and based on the content that you've attempted to create so far, would be considered spam. Please also don't thank users for multiple edits at a time like you did me for ~10 edits across many pages, especially seemingly random edits. It is annoying. I am not saying to not "thank" users for edits, but please use it more sparingly and in contexts where it makes sense. TheSandDoctor Talk 21:54, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@I am sturzy: That would be because drafts are not indexed by most search engines on purpose. Please see my reply in the above section. TheSandDoctor Talk 21:55, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Defamation on user talk page

[edit]

Hello,

I know this might not be your primary area, but since you were involved in the sockpuppet investigation you have some background in the broader dispute. After the main dispute in the Copts article calmed down, with consensus reached for the roadmap introduced on the talk page, it recently spilled over into the Coptic identity article where the user @Epenkimi had been introducing the exact same content and narrative. When I addressed this on the basis of the consensus reached in the other article he went around referring to my edits as vandalism (1, 2 and 3). I then proceeded to list the dispute on WP:NPOVN for broader input on the general issue, and after facing objections from multiple other editors the user threw a tantrum on the talk page and the noticeboard, and then went into self-imposed Wiki-exile, but not without implicating me in his victimhood narrative on his user page. I don't appreciate this mischaracterization of my effort to improve these articles, and frankly I'm just generally frustrated at this point with this user's tone and childish conduct. Turnopoems 𓋹 11:47, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I will CC @Rosguill as well, as they have also been participating in the discussion. Turnopoems 𓋹 14:47, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think I have much to add here as I'm now involved in the dispute, but I second Turnopoems' characterization of the general situation. signed, Rosguill talk 16:24, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Turnopoems: I am torn here. I see this as a potential aspersion-ish thing but not enough to necessarily block under WP:NPA and they do state that they've quit/left Wikipedia already. I haven't had much time for Wiki this month but I am flip-flopping enough here in my draft of a response to you/how I want to proceed that I am going to think on this a bit further and come back here, either with an action plan or recommendation/referral to WP:ANI. TheSandDoctor Talk 22:04, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If this is going to ANI, I think based on what they've already said and their edits a topic ban from either Copts or Christianity is warranted. If this had been a WP:CTOP I would have probably just tbanned them rather than intervene as an editor following the NPOVN post. signed, Rosguill talk 23:00, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both, @Rosguill and @TheSandDoctor, for your input. Please let me know what you consider to be the most appropriate course of action once you’ve reached a conclusion. This aspect of Wikipedia is the one I’m least familiar with, fortunately, so I will comply with whatever resolution you determine is most suitable for the situation. Turnopoems 𓋹 07:28, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Turnopoems: Sorry for my delay in replying. I do think that ANI is an appropriate place to take this. Thanks to @Rosguill: for confirming that that isn't an insane instinct. WP:ANI is a good choice to get a broader subset of administrators to see it than who watch here and to come to more of a consensus than a talk page can usually deliver. Generally ANI is something to use sparingly, but this issue has gone on long enough. There is a definite behaviour issue here but I would like to see more input from other admins. Please link here when/if it is posted there. TheSandDoctor Talk 13:35, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TheSandDoctor: No worries, and thank you for your suggestion. I’ve now submitted a report at ANI, including some additional background context that may or may not prove useful. We’ll see how the discussion unfolds from here. Turnopoems 𓋹 16:32, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Turnopoems: I've commented there. Thanks for the link and you're most welcome. TheSandDoctor Talk 19:04, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I do not understand a thing about wikipedia editing, help --Ma89eo1 (talk) 10:46, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Ma89eo1: Please see the Wikipedia Adventure interactive tutorial. It should help show you the basics. Please let me know if you have any further questions. TheSandDoctor Talk 13:36, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TheSandDoctor Thanks, what should i do now? Ma89eo1 (talk) 17:56, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ma89eo1: I am sorry for my delayed response; this somehow slipped through the cracks. Now that you've done the Wikipedia adventure and learned a little bit about editing, I would just look at articles that interest you or use the random article button to find articles. Once you have, just see if there are typos or small clarifications that you can add etc. Just please keep in mind that if you add new information, you need cite your references (that link is a guide) and only reference reliable sources. If you have any questions, please do let me know and I will try my best to respond more promptly; we're just all volunteers here and sometimes offline life gets in the way/slows us down. Question from Arijamon (15:19, 7 May 2025)

[edit]

Hi there sand doctor, I would like to add a person I know, master chef who brought French fine dinning to Los Angeles in 1981 from France, he is a key player in French food in Los Angeles and cooking for many presidents as well thru out the 80s 90s, thank you for your help setting this up --Arijamon (talk) 15:19, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Arijamon: Welcome to Wikipedia! Articles need to satisfy the notability guideline for people, which is accomplished by there being multiple reliable secondary sources (that are independent of each other) that have covered that chef extensively (think news stories, non-fiction books etc). If you can provide me with a name that would be a good start, as well as possibly what you believe to be the 3 strongest sources covering that chef. They don't have to be online sources (e.g. they can predate the internet, don't have to be in English etc.), but that does help if they are online. Let's see what we can figure out here! TheSandDoctor Talk 04:47, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The Master Chefs name is Chef Patrick Jamon and some
of the latest articles online are from New York Times, Tico times, and Los Angeles times, also I have countless Los Angeles times news paper articles from back in the late 80s and 90s as well as pictures with every president since 1980, thank you Arijamon (talk) 17:16, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Fslozano (14:32, 8 May 2025)

[edit]

Hi, Can you tell me, if I'm allowed to link my blog in the "about me" box in my user's page? --Fslozano (talk) 14:32, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Fslozano: You could as that would be in compliance with the user page guidelines, though keep in mind this specific passage: "You are also welcome to include a simple link to your personal home page, although you should not surround it with any promotional language. However, if a link to your home page is the only thing on your userpage, this may be seen as an attempt at self-promotion."
I hope that helps! TheSandDoctor Talk 04:49, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Secretnavy20 on Sutton Foster (12:34, 17 May 2025)

[edit]

I want this to be Published

“Sutton Foster had always been a strong advocate for LGBTQ rights, but little did she know that her passion for the cause would take on a whole new meaning in her own life.

It all started when Sutton began to question her own identity and feelings towards the same sex. She had always been open-minded and accepting of others, but now she found herself facing a truth she had been avoiding for years - she was a member of the LGBTQ community.

At first, Sutton was hesitant to come out publicly. She was afraid of how her friends, family, and fans would react. But as she delved deeper into her own self-discovery, she realized that she couldn't continue to live in fear and denial.

So, one day, Sutton took a deep breath and made the decision to come out as a proud member of the LGBTQ community. She shared her story with the world, explaining how her journey of self-acceptance had led her to this moment.

The response was overwhelmingly positive. Sutton's fans rallied around her, showing their support and admiration for her courage. Her friends and family embraced her with open arms, proud of the person she had become.

From that day on, Sutton Foster became not only a talented actress and singer, but also a powerful voice for the LGBTQ community. She used her platform to advocate for equality and acceptance, spreading a message of love and understanding wherever she went.

And as she continued on her journey of self-discovery, Sutton found a new sense of purpose and fulfillment in being true to herself and standing up for what she believed in. She had finally found her place in the world, and she was determined to make a difference for others who were struggling with their own identities.

Sutton Foster's story was a powerful reminder that it's never too late to embrace who you are and stand up for what you believe in. And as she continued to inspire others with her courage and strength, she knew that she was exactly where she was meant to be --Secretnavy20 (talk) 12:34, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Secretnavy20: Content in Wikipedia articles needs to be written from a neutral point of view and supported by reliable sources. We also don't publish original research. That is why you've been blocked for a week by another administrator. TheSandDoctor Talk 17:30, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
