About Silverfish

[edit]

Hiii!!

I am a newbie, so please bare with me.

I had read that today's silverfish phenotypically are virtually similar to their ancestors and have remained unchanged for millions of years and hence, are considered as living fossils.

Also, I currently don't know how to add supporting links to any sentences for my claims, so yeah.... :(

Maybe you can do a umm.... google search? To verify my claim?

Thanks :D NectarLupine (talk) 06:43, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@NectarLupine
Hey- I don't mean this to discourage you, but learning to cite your sources and back up edits with factual, reliable information is a key skill when editing Wikipedia. I recommend you take a look at WP:INTREF3 for more information on how to add a citation.
I was able to locate two sources to back up the particular edit you made; in any case, the Wikitext for your edit's sources would be as follows:
<ref>{{cite journal |last1=Engel |first1=Michael S. |title=A Note on the Relic Silverfish Tricholepidion gertschi (Zygentoma) |journal=Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science (1903-) |date=2006 |volume=109 |issue=3/4 |pages=236–238 |url=http://www.jstor.org/stable/20476277 |access-date=2 May 2025 |issn=0022-8443}}</ref>

<ref>{{cite web |title=Silverfish |url=https://encyclopediaofarkansas.net/entries/silverfish-14617/ |website=Encyclopedia of Arkansas |access-date=2 May 2025 |location=Little Rock, AR |date=8 September 2020 |quote=This species is an example of a living fossil, as it is the only remaining member of a clade that was once widespread.}}</ref>
Both of these sources provide evidence that your claim is not without basis, and allow users to follow them to read more, if they're interested via the hyperlinks that are automatically added.
If you need any other clarification, feel free to ask me here, or by putting a {{Help me}} tag on your user talk page! Stickymatch 07:13, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I created a page in your userspace, with an example of what I just mentioned, and a statement similar to yours from silverfish. Feel free to edit it to see how the references are formatted, and remember you can use your Citation helper tool as well in the editor.

Thank you!
I will learn how to adhere to what you said.

Hello!!
I recently added a 'Climate' section on the Pangaea Wikipedia article by citing Britannica. Can you check if it's fine or not (it's my most major edit till now and I am somewhat scared😿)?
Thank you :D NectarLupine (talk) 04:11, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@NectarLupine: I'll take a closer look at it in a bit. The only thing that I'm immediately noticing is that some of your statements are awfully similar to the original Britannica piece, however there are a limited amount of ways to state simple facts about climate.
Regardless, you may want to revise your work to less closely follow the exact flow of the Britannica article, as it seems that portions of it, including the layout you may have paraphrased directly. It would probably benefit your addition to have multiple sources, and combine the information you gather in an original layout. Stickymatch 05:46, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay, I will try to change it up a little so it's not too similar to the source after some time. My professor bombed me with a suprise test, gotta study now Ó╭╮Ò.
Thank you for helping me :D!!! NectarLupine (talk) 06:10, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. Congratulations on your first article, by the way @NectarLupine! Stickymatch 06:48, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much, @Stickymatch! :) NectarLupine (talk) 16:28, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

My Bad

[edit]

Hi Stickymatch! my bad, thanks for letting me know, I'll do better next time, promise!. I don't see a problem with having three teachers, so please teach me about Wikipedia, you see, I'm really young, so according to the Wikipedia privacy policy for children, I can't reveal my age. But anyway, thanks for the notice, can you adopt me and teach me, I mean I'm still new to Wikipedia, check when it was created. Ether way, have a and blessed great day.

@BeastBoy-X Hi, unfortunately I'm not participating in WP:Adoption at this time, however if you click on that page there's a simple guide on how to get started with the program.
If you have any specific questions, I can try to answer them (or find the answer), just drop a message on my talkpage.
I hope you have fun working on Wikipedia- I've found it to be a great time, and am always learning something. What I've found very rewarding so far is locating references and counter-vandalism. Both take you to all sorts of pages and topics you might otherwise not ever visit. Stickymatch 14:42, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have a tool called Twinklemobile but I don't know what: Warn, Wel, TB, CSD, XFD, RPP, Last and Config are for. I was hoping maybe you can help:) ⟨⟨Beastboy-𝕏-Talk!⟩⟩ 14:39, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@BeastBoy-X
  • `Warn` is to put a warning on the user that performed the edits Talk Page
  • `Wel` allows you to pick from a list of pre-baked welcome notices, and then puts it on the user's Talk Page
  • `TB` sends the editor a Talkback notice, used for a reminder to check their talk page, or E-Mail typically.
  • `CSD` is a tool used to reccomended junk pages for rapid delete- "criteria (for) speedy deletion"
  • `XfD` starts a deletion discussion to obtain WP:CONSENSUS to delete an article
  • `RPP` is used for adding Page Protection Request templates.
  • `Last` lets you see the most recent edit compared to the previous state of the article.
  • `Config` Configuration options.
Hope this helps! Stickymatch 15:34, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well it sure did, thanks very much!:) ⟨⟨Beastboy-𝕏-Talk!⟩⟩ 21:00, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help me with this article?

[edit]

I maintained my reference and citation as much strict as i can, though its moved to draft, can you help?

Draft:Prefrontal_artery  stuxnet.02 My edits 00:02, 21 May 2025 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stuxnet.02 (talkcontribs) [reply]

@Stuxnet.02 Hi- your draft got a score of 76 on QuillBot.. That indicates it's highly likely that AI was used to generate the majority of the text. As LLMs utilize patterns to create complex emulations of concepts, this frequently creates errors and factual inaccuracies. To have your article approved to leave draftspace, I'd reccomended rewriting it while making sure you adhere to the WP:MOS. Stickymatch 00:26, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
ok. Yes i used GPT to make table and format, may be that time they left their footprint. Is it not leagal to use GPT/LLM at all?  stuxnet.02 My edits 00:34, 21 May 2025 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stuxnet.02 (talkcontribs) [reply]
@Stuxnet.02 LLMs aren't outright banned, but using them to generate an article is bad practice. As I don't usually work on new articles, I'd reccomended you ask for some assistance on WP:THQ where there's a lot of editors with more particular experience than I. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Kamulu, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Asphalt.

Image Question

[edit]

Hello (ˆ▽ˆ)

Can you tell me how can I know if an image is freely copyrighted or not? Like can I take images from science journals? NectarLupine (talk) 14:36, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@NectarLupine Most images are copyrighted. You should try and find Creative Commons/Public Domain images that can suit your needs. There's a nicely written bit here on how to properly figure out what pictures are okay or not. What image/journal are you looking at in particular? If not clearly stated, assume the image is under copyright. Stickymatch 14:43, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was researching about Pangaean river systems and came across this website.
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1342937X12002924
This has information about the Triassic period rivers and there were images which I wanted to include but I don't think they are copyright free.
(Also I wanted to refer to websites, I don't know why I wrote journals previously ╮(^▽^)╭) NectarLupine (talk) 14:54, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@NectarLupine unfortunately I have to agree with you, those graphics definitely look like they're under copyright. Stickymatch 14:57, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Stickymatch, is New Scientist website considered as a reliable source?
I came across this https://www.newscientist.com/article/2197767-weve-discovered-a-massive-dinosaur-era-river-delta-under-the-sea and https://pubs.geoscienceworld.org/gsa/geology/article/47/5/470/569564/The-largest-delta-plain-in-Earth-s-history NectarLupine (talk) 02:58, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @NectarLupine, the New Scientist website uses the published article as it's main source from Geology (2019) that you linked in the second link. The source in the second link appears to have been published in an established journal, so I'd go ahead and say it's reliable. Stickymatch 04:11, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

North Island Kōkako

Reproduction North Island Kōkako

[edit]

I researched the reproduction of the North Island kōkako on the Animal Diversity Web website." Jhonatan Cariel (talk) 04:22, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jhonatan Cariel I see. Unfortunately you also copy-pasted the information directly from the website, and did not correctly cite any sources. As this is a potential copyright issue, I reverted the edit in question. Please make sure to not copy-paste from the web in the future. Stickymatch 04:25, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry

[edit]

Sorry, I'm still new here. I want to try to contribute more and help with some pages.

Is there an example of a website where I can write about the behavior of the North Island Kōkako?

Can you help me?

Before I submit it to the page, I'll send it to you first, and then you can tell me if I should post it. Jhonatan Cariel (talk) 04:31, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jhonatan Cariel It's okay- it might be a good idea to try writing what you plan to add and refining it in your sandbox, which is located at User:Jhonatan Cariel/sandbox. I'll take a look when you're ready, and in the meantime, when you get a chance, please look at WP:CITE for more information on how to work with citations. When you're done writing, just leave me a message here on my talk page and I'll take a gander at it, there's also the WP:THQ (the Teahouse) which is full of helpful users. I really appreciate your enthusiasm to expand on the page, however there are guidelines in place for the creation and addition (to) of articles. Finally- welcome to Wikipedia! I hope to see you around for years to come. Stickymatch 04:37, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your kindness, and you do a great job. Jhonatan Cariel (talk) 04:46, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

North Island Kōkako

[edit]

I got the information from this reliable site: https://www.doc.govt.nz/globalassets/documents/science-and-technical/tsrp30.pdf Jhonatan Cariel (talk) 04:59, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jhonatan Cariel Great! here's the citation for that:

Need explanation

[edit]

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening Stickymatch, I have joined (I think) the Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy and I'm now the student of User:Cassiopeia. But I don't know what this means:

Please be aware that this program requires a significant time commitment to thoroughly review the guidelines and complete the assignments. While most participants take around three months to finish, you can work at your own pace with no set.

I don't get a message about the CVUA from Cassiopeia, even now. Should I ask about the CVUA? Or just wait? I really want to join, i just can't wait. He did reply and agreed to adopt me or whatever you call it. ⟨⟨Beastboy-𝕏-Talk!⟩⟩ 03:10, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

BeastBoy-X Good day.I have replied to you and request that you declare all your previous three Wikipedia accounts on your user page, which you have yet to do. Please refer to the message titled "Request for Studentship" - on my talk page. (Note: Do not remove the declaration of your past user accounts from your user page once you have added the information.) Secondly, since you are new to Wikipedia, I suggest that you complete the WP:TWA program before I set up the program for you. It is best for you to come to my talk page and communicate with me rather than using other editors' talk pages. Stay safe. Cassiopeia talk 23:52, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
