[edit]Hi Stickhandler. Thank you for your work on Anton Kobyakov. Another editor, Noleander, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:
Seems like a notable person. However, the article needs some work to make it read like an encyclopedia article: short, bullet-like sentences are not ideal. Should be full paragraphs, that flow.

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Businesspeople from Nanaimo

Ruby Liu
[edit]You keep adding Ruby Liu back to Nanaimo. Do you have a source that actually says she lives there? Cuz none of the sources in the article say that. And none of the sources say she's Canadian. Masterhatch (talk) 19:07, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Masterhatch: Source fp1, as indicated on her wiki page. Stickhandler (talk) 19:11, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Umm. It says her business is based there but that by no means she lives there. Unless i'm missing something. If I am missing something, can u copy paste the wording that says either she "redides" there or was "born" there per Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/Settlements: Article structure#Notable people. Thanks! Masterhatch (talk) 19:21, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Masterhatch: I'm unaware of any occasion on which I wrote that Ruby Liu was born anywhere. Can you find one? Stickhandler (talk) 21:24, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- "Reside". By putting her as a notable person in Nanaimo, you are claiming she resides in Nanaimo. There is no source that i've seen that says that. Masterhatch (talk) 21:45, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Masterhatch: I'm unaware of any occasion on which I wrote that Ruby Liu was born anywhere. Can you find one? Stickhandler (talk) 21:24, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- And can u self revert your cats that say she's Canadian? Please and thank you. Masterhatch (talk) 19:24, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Masterhatch: to what do you refer? Let's debate the wording. Stickhandler (talk) 21:26, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Not sure what there is to debate. She's not from Nanaimo. She's not Canadian. The cats that refer to her as such should be removed. Yes, the head quarters of her company are in Nanaimo, but I think she actually lives in the Lower Mainland. Masterhatch (talk) 21:44, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

Copied from a source: "She owns a home on Vancouver Island and a 10,000-sq.-ft. mansion on the University of B.C. Endowment Lands." I have no idea where that is. If that's Nanaimo, then we can say that she lives in Nanaimo. And we can category it that way. For all I knnow, that could be Parksville. Or Ladysmith. My point is, unless there is a reference that says she's living in Nanaimo, then we can't category her that way. Masterhatch (talk) 21:52, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Masterhatch: do you agree her place of business is in Nanaimo? Stickhandler (talk) 11:32, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
I only know what the sources tell me. And this is what they tell me:
- "Weihong (Ruby) Liu is the chair of Ruby Liu Commercial Investment Corp’s Central Walk, a Nanaimo-based real estate investment firm that focuses on acquiring, developing and operating commercial real estate properties in Canada, with existing assets already in major cities in Southeast Asia, according to the company website." The key is "according to the company website. See, Central Walk isn't a reliable source. Why? cuz anyone can write anything in a website about themselves. Have a read through Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Yes the financial post is publishing it, but they are careful to make sure that they say "according to the company website" because it is something they personally haven't verified. That whole financial post article seems to be written based on things Ruby has said in various outlets.
- That same financial post article also says, "Liu moved from China to Canada in 2014 and became a Canadian permanent resident in 2017, according to the Vancouver Sun. She owns a home on Vancouver Island and a 10,000-sq.-ft. mansion on the University of B.C. Endowment Lands". I lived in Nanaimo for over 25 years (I don't live there anymore) and I never heard of "University of B.C. Endowment Lands". When I google it and go to the wiki page, it says it is the lower mainland, not Vancouver Island. Something fishy there.
- She bought Woodgrove mall in 2020. She bought Mayfair mall in Vic in 2021. And Tsawwassen Mills in 2022. She bought a golf course in 2019 in Cobble Hill.
- I can't access the costar article but the headline says "Vancouver-based store owner announces plans to launch department store concept in Canada." Notice the Vancouver based...
- The retail insider site says, "The leases will be transferred to Ruby Liu Commercial Investment Corp., as the Vancouver-based businesswoman prepares to launch a brand-new department store concept designed to appeal to a broad, multicultural Canadian audience." Vancouver based, not Nanaimo based.
So, none of the cited sources say she lives in Nanaimo. The closest thing is she owns a home (doesn't say she lives there as she may be renting it out or it might be a "second" home) in the University of BC Endowment lands. It says Ruby Liu Commercial Investment Corp is a Nanaimo based real estate firm. But that is all it says. Is there an actual office there? is it just a mailing address? Does she actually go there to do work? We don't know. Lots of corporations will have a head office in a place where they do not do most of their business. If there was an article on Wikipedia entitled "Ruby Liu Commercial Investment Corp" you could say it was based in Nanaimo. but as for Ruby herself? There's no source that says she's from Nanaimo or resides in Nanaimo. I did some googling myself looking for more sources and I couldn't find any more info. In conclusion, she is not Canadian and the sources do not say she is from Nanaimo. To and to answer your question: One source says Ruby Liu Commercial Investment Corp (of which she is the chairwoman) is Nanaimo based and two sources say Vancouver based but unless you can come up with a source that says she (as the article is about her, not her business) is residing in Nanaimo, I can't see how we can add those categories. Masterhatch (talk) 15:33, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
I think you need to review Help:Referencing for beginners. You keep added references that are broken. Also, you re-added cats that don't fit and you are not addressing the issues. The WP:ONUS is on you to demonstrate that those cats should be included and thus far, yuo have not. Masterhatch (talk) 19:54, 6 June 2025 (UTC)

- @Masterhatch: Oh I was unaware that my edits were unsourced. Can you point to one or two, so that I may adjust my conduct? Stickhandler (talk) 21:34, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- you are messing with me, right? Saying she's Canadian. Adding cats that say she's from nanaimo. Masterhatch (talk) 21:54, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- and you really need to learn how to reference properly. I see u just got a bot message for something that has already been brought to your attention. Masterhatch (talk) 22:00, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- and can u actually fix your referencing errors on the Ruby article? Masterhatch (talk) 22:02, 6 June 2025 (UTC)

Missing required translation attribution at Non-lieu
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from fr:Non-lieu en procédure pénale française to Non-lieu. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. Sample wording for this is given here. If you forgot, or were not aware of this requirement, attribution must be given retroactively, for example:
NOTE: Content in the edit of 01:25, January 25, 2023 was translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution.
Retroactive attribution may be added using a dummy edit; see Repairing insufficient attribution. It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{translated page}} template on the talk page of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, you must add attribution retrospectively, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Please see WP:RIA for the wording to use at Non-lieu and how to add it. If you need assistance, please ask. Mathglot (talk) 04:13, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
Translating articles
[edit]Hi, Stickhandler, and thanks for your contributions. Your recent creation of Non-lieu was not ready to be an article in mainspace. As you may have noticed, I have made numerous edits to bring it up to a minimum threshold for a mainspace article. (Even so, with only one citation, its status is borderline.) The biggest problem (other than missing translation attribution, see the section above) was the poor state of translation. Were you using an automatic translator, like Google translate perhaps? I had to retranslate practically every concept of French law in the article; the main problem was that French terms were literally translated into false friend expressions in English that either were meaningless, or misleading and meant something else. For example, information judiciaire does not mean "judicial information" (a false friend); rather, it means a "judicial investigation". (Same thing with the French term, instruction judiciaire (not taken from your article, just another illustration): that does not mean "judicial instruction" but is a synonym of the previous example, and also means a "judicial investigation". You really have to watch out for false friends; there were numerous examples like this, and unless I missed one, they are all fixed now.
However, it took me a lot of editing to get there, for an article that is still just a brief, two-paragraph stub. Next time you work on a new article, please create it in draft space, and if it is a translation from French, please ask for help. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 04:42, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
- I also noticed at Olivier Marleix, that you didn't translate suppléant, but just left it in French, wikilinked as a red link. I have fixed that. If you are not confident of your ability to translate French into English, please ask for help when making these edits, or edit articles that do not require translation. Thanks.
