[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Tehn Diamond, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. See MOS:LQ. CodeTalker (talk) 02:35, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks CodeTalker. Just reviewed the manual and I see I should not have moved the comma. Thanks for flagging that. SnazzyWags (talk) 11:13, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
Hi SnazzyWags, concerning your edit here, small numbers are normally spelled out, as are numbers that can be spelled out in a single word. You can read more about this in the manual of style at MOS:SPELL09. As you are new I'd also like to provide you a couple resources to help you on your journey: The getting started guide is an excellent hub of information, especially the introduction, and if you have any future questions you can ask me on my talk page or visit the Teahouse where many editors answer questions from newcomers. Thank you! fifteen thousand two hundred twenty four (talk) 12:10, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for sharing those resources, fifteen. According to the manual, ages can be spelled out or used as numbers, as long as it is consistent. Please see excerpt below:
- Comparable values near one another should be all spelled out or all in figures, even if one of the numbers would normally be written differently: patients' ages were five, seven, and thirty-two or ages were 5, 7, and 32, but not ages were five, seven, and 32. SnazzyWags (talk) 23:03, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- I think you may understand what that is saying slightly, the key parts are
"near one another"
and"even if one of the numbers would normally be written differently"
. The given example of 5, 7, 32 is intentional, because thirty-two is not a single-word number, while 5 and 7 are. So in such an edge case where numbers would otherwise be represented inconsistently, consistency is prioritized. Either 5, 7, 32 or five, seven, thirty-two. - In the case of your edit I'd be willing to concede 12th for twelfth, but the ages are not near enough other numbers of exception to invoke that particular rule.
- Also a tip for quoting: you can use the talk quote inline template to make
"quoted text like this"
: - {{tq|"your quote here"}}
- But note that this (and other {{templates}}) will not work properly in edit summaries. fifteen thousand two hundred twenty four (talk) 23:28, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- Got it. It's going to take me a little time to master all these rules. Thanks for your patience and help. SnazzyWags (talk) 23:49, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
