Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Summer Game Fest, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Niantic and 2K. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Attention needed at username change request

[edit]

Hello. A renamer or clerk has responded to your username change request, but requires clarification before moving forward. Please follow up at your username change request entry as soon as possible. Thank you. - FlightTime (open channel) 18:52, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You need to re-post a request, use your account name, not someone else's. - FlightTime (open channel) 18:54, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the error, I used that request as a base and forgot to change that part. Resubmitted request. Slop Account (talk) 19:20, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done no problem, rename done. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 19:24, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, makes sense. The intro paragraph mentioning this narrower window is still fine, right? TheSilksongPikmin (talk) 17:00, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

not going to use a template because i haven't found an appropriate one...

but please go easy on the primary sources, fancruft, and how you handle reversions. namely...

  • if you believe something is important despite disagreements from others, you discuss readding it first
  • if you believe you can demonstrate that it's important enough to add with secondary sources, you find said sources first
  • just saying you think something is notable won't cut it. i myself have had a not insignificant amount of instances of saying i'm sure something is notable, but then not actually finding anything of note about it

those problems aren't exactly new, but they're no less inconvenient when people are trying to cut down the cruft in certain articles consarn (grave) (obituary) 11:28, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I won't re-add the wingdings text thing, don't worry. I still think it's important enough to include, as it's one the biggest pieces of evidence towards gaster's importance in DR, but it is true that no very reliable sources mention it. However, it turns out that the CBR citation already included on the page, does mention the wingdings text image. I know valnet is not considered very reliable, but it is a secondary source. I'll start a discussion on if this should be included or not. Tried to find other sources mentioning it, but couldn't find any. TheSilksongPikmin (talk) 11:30, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
yeah, that's a good start >:3c consarn (grave) (obituary) 11:34, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Silkpost requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. 45dogs (they/them) (talk) 02:06, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is no speedy deletion notice, I assume a consensus has been reached, is this correct? TheSilksongPikmin (talk) 11:03, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:SilksongScreenshot.jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Johnj1995 (talk) 21:26, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nintendo Music category

[edit]

Hi TheSilksongPikmin,

First of all, welcome to Wikipedia! There's plenty of improvement to do here, so great to have new editors willing to help out.

That said, I am unfortunately here to argue that some of your latest contributions are not helpful, in particular Category:Nintendo Music (application). First of all, let me humbly suggest that categories are just... not that important. They don't display on mobile for not-logged in users, and their pageviews are routinely 1/1000 of the views of their articles. They're mostly of use to computer scientists doing machine learning analysis of topics. But if you do want to contribute to categories anyway, you should know that there are some rules on them, albeit rules honored in the breach at times. In particular, see Wikipedia:Overcategorization. Categories are not for every true fact. In particular, categories need to be defining (i.e. you might mention them when casually describing the basics of a topic). Having the music appear in one particular app is not defining. In fact, this would be true even if we had separate articles on some of those game soundtracks. You can imagine the madness if you think of, say, major songs listed as Available on Spotify, Available on Apple Music, Available on YouTube Music, Available on Amazon Prime Music, etc. Allowing this would drown the more defining aspects out, like year of release or the artist behind the music. (And besides, aren't they already listed at Nintendo Music in prose?)

Anyway, do you agree with the above? If you do, you can either undo your category creation by dropping Template:Db-author on the category page and undoing your edits, or you can let automated bots handle it by dropping a "C2E: Author request" at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion#Add_requests_for_speedy_renaming_and_merging_here. If you don't agree with the above, that's your right, but I'll likely file a Categories for Discussion deletion request against it, and it is extremely likely to get deleted in a community discussion. Don't mean that as a threat or anything, just a heads-up. (And if you've seen weird, hyper-specific categories that didn't get deleted... well you're right, there are lots of categories that probably shouldn't exist in the wild too. Unfortunately seeing examples isn't always a good guide to what the policies say.) SnowFire (talk) 04:04, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Fair points, I'll revert the edits and get the category deleted. TheSilksongPikmin (talk) 04:28, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done. TheSilksongPikmin (talk) 04:45, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for reconsidering. I was going to talk to you about some of the very same points. Sergecross73 msg me 13:37, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this revert, an unreliable source is not "better than nothing." Either find a reliable source that complies with WP:VG/S or do not add the information at all. If you re-add this source it'll be considered disruptive editing. ThomasO1989 (talk) 16:03, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have found a more reliable source (kotaku) that indirectly mentions this info, so I re-added the info and added this source. I wish a more direct and reliable source existed, but not adding the information would be bad, as it would be giving false information, because the soundtracks are not completely indentical. Especially since this is a featured article, false statements should not be included.

That source does not say exactly that the ending theme is the same, only that "...it even has a slightly upgraded ending sequence, also pulled from The Lost Levels." We can't use this either as it can't be verified. Also keep in mind, we focus on verifibility, not truth, and putting in an unreliable or "indirect" source to report the "truth" is unacceptable in any Wikipedia article, not just featured articles. That said, I've decided to remove the entire mention of music and graphics, since the IGN source doesn't mention the music either and graphics isn't gameplay. ThomasO1989 (talk) 17:01, 28 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Understandable, removing the whole mention of the music is better than what it was previously, as it was incorrect info. TheSilksongPikmin (talk) 23:45, 28 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
