[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Knitsey. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Bisma Asif, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Also, unexplained removal of references and promotional tone Knitsey (talk) 00:03, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop taking down my edits of this page. I work for Bisma and am just trying to do my job and update the page per her own wording! Sarch22 (talk) 00:30, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you work for Bisma Asif, you are considered a paid editor. You are required to read and comply with the Paid Editing Policy. AntiDionysius (talk) 00:31, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It means you have to post a declaration that you are being compensated for your editing; you are, in addition, strongly discouraged from making direct edits to the Bisma Asif article, because of your conflict of interest.
Neutral point of view is a core policy of Wikipedia. This means that public figures do not have a right to put their "own wording" on articles about them, because that wording is almost never neutral. AntiDionysius (talk) 00:34, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The article needs to be updated to display accurate information. Per my understanding of the paid editing policy, I can just publish my edits but disclose I am an employee in the description so am going to do that. Sarch22 (talk) 00:39, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That would be enough to comply with the paid editing policy, yes. However, your edits will still be reverted because they are in quite blatant contravention of the Neutral Point of View Policy. AntiDionysius (talk) 00:41, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add commentary, your own point of view, or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Bisma Asif. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Thank you. AntiDionysius (talk) 01:08, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I amended this edit to meet the neutral tone requirements. Can you please pull out examples where this has been violated this time around. I'd like to flag that the phrase "in pursuit of a brighter future" is used in a non-political context, referring to a very common experience of people immigrating to Australia Sarch22 (talk) 01:09, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"In pursuit of a brighter future" really isn't neutral; it doesn't matter that it's used in non-political contexts, since the issue here isn't whether language is "political" but whether it's neutral and encyclopaedic.
Some other non-neutral language (non-exhaustive list):
  • She attended local schools and worked hard to adapt to her new environment
  • Despite facing financial struggles and personal challenges, she pursued her education
  • driven by her passion to protect universal healthcare
  • found inspiration in the Labor Party’s commitment to addressing inequality
  • She played a role in advancing key historic aged-care reforms under the Albanese government
  • Bisma Asif’s policy priorities reflect her lived experiences and core Labor values
I could go on, as there are issues in almost every sentence. The fact that this wasn't apparent to you is exactly why we so strongly discourage editors with a conflict of interest from refraining from editing articles directly. It's not just that they struggle to be neutral, they are often unable to see how non-neutral they are being. That's just the nature of conflicts of interest.
We instead encourage COI editors to make use of edit requests. You make a request for a change/addition on the article talk page, provide a source to support it, and an editor without a COI makes it on your behalf using neutral wording. So the article gets updated, but without sounding like an advertisement, and everyone wins. AntiDionysius (talk) 01:17, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional tone

[edit]

Please stop editing the article as if it were a cv/promotional leaflet, this isn't how Wikipedia is compiled. Promotional tone, such as 'proud member' 'in pursuit of a brighter future' 'driven by her passion' and so on. Wikipedia is written in a neutral tone. Your referencing is also inadequate as a lot of it is from the government, which is classed as a primary source. See Wikipedia:Reliable sources

I also believe, because of your edits, I believe you may have a conflict of interest. I will post a COI message below which you need to answer before resuming editing. Knitsey (talk) 00:36, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Sarch22. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Bisma Asif, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Knitsey (talk) 00:37, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
