ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:17, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is to let you know that the above article has been scheduled as today's featured article for April 2025. Please check that the article needs no amendments. Feel free to amend the draft blurb, which can be found at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 2025, or to make comments on other matters concerning the scheduling of this article at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/April 2025. Thank you today for th article, introduced (in 2010): "Every book review found by me, Ucucha and Sasata has been included. If anyone finds any other book reviews, particularly for the second edition, it will be added promptly. I have also briefly covered the controversy this book has helped stir regarding taxonomic inflation. All red links I feel should stay. Stephen Nash is a noteworthy illustrator for Conservation International, and Anne Yoder is a well-known lemur researcher."! - We miss you. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:35, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Lemurs of Madagascar 5th edition

[edit]

Hi, Maky! I noticed you've reviewed Lemurs of Madagascar's fifth edition, and I'm wondering if you have any interest in updating its 'Content' section with what's in the new edition. It's not set in stone, but as there are five editions, it's very likely some of the more specific information about previous editions will have to get placed into footnotes or pruned altogether. I would do this, but I'm pretty sure no library near me has a copy of the fifth edition, and I'm neither very rich nor a primatologist and therefore can't justify $50 for the book (fantastic as it may be). Hope you're doing well. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 20:10, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't even know there were new editions until I read this. I've ordered the 5th edition and asked someone connected with the book to send me an elusive copy of the 4th, which is only in French and seems to have had a very limited run. (This latter fact can't be mentioned in the article because I won't have a secondary source to cite... unless it's mentioned in the 5th edition itself.)
I'll consider doing some simple updates, but I don't really edit much anymore due to the hostile environment on Wikipedia, as well as the negative ramifications editing has had on my professional life. There are also several paid editors working secretly for several large lemur conservation groups, such as the Lemur Conservation Foundation and the Duke Lemur Center, and editing lemur-related articles is likely to lead to conflicts and hostility.
